At precisely 6:57 CWT time Norm called the meeting to order. the presentations to begin, so we started a little early. The house was full and everyone was eager for Guests We did not have any guests this month (or no one was willing to introduce themselves as a guest). Dues and the Library 1) Carl notified the guild that most people had now paid those dues. Those who have not paid will be dropped from the membership 2) Carl would like to know if there is something you would like for the library. If you are at a symposium and see something you'd like, email Carl and let him know. He may just authorize you to pick it up there and reimburse you. Web Site Refresh and Training Norm announced that Sherry Willetts want to redo the web site and take some training on the best way to make use of new technology and features when the web site is refreshed. It was moved by Carl Smith and seconded by Gary Goddard that we reimburse Sherry up to $500.00 for training. After some discussion a vote was called and the motion was carried. Calgary Drop In Centre Tom Loszchuk from the Calgary Drop In Centre Woodworks thanked the Calgary Woodturners Guild for our 8 year association. This spring they asked for a few bowls to be donated as part of their volunteer thank you banquet. 8 bowls were donated, and they were the hit of the day! So a heartfelt thank you to all. Lichtenberg Pyrography by Bert Delisle, Ken Kindjerski & Jay Doty Bert Delisle went through the presentation presented in the following pages. He explained and stressed that if not properly, Lichtenberg Pyrography can be very dangerous and can kill you. Done properly with the proper safety precautions, it is a lot of fun! The total cost of Bert's setup was about $250. After they went through the presentation, they hooked up and turned on the equipment and did some pyrography (burning). www.calgarywoodturners.com Page 2
Ken had a lower voltage set-up. With the lower voltage there is finer line detail. Doug Drury brought an elm vase (partially green wood - was cutt about 8 months ago and turned two days before the meeting. Bert's setup had a higher voltage. Don James brought some thin walled bowls, which Bert was able to burn right throught the side of the bowls. Various othr bowl blanks and pieces of wood were burned as well. Lots of questions were asked and answered. --- BREAK --- www.calgarywoodturners.com Page 3

The bottom was from the original piece of wood, the piece on top was from a center saved portion, as were the three pieces on top of that. Jim asked for feedback and suggestions on how to hide and blend in the seams as well as feedback on facebook pages for selling items. He received several suggestions and comments. RAFFLE AND 50/50 DRAW Dave Beeman (with help) did the raffle and several pieces of wood went with members to new homes. Murray Lenyk won $110 in the 50/50 draw.
