The Move Tool moves selections, layers, and guides. The Lasso Tool makes freehand, polygonal (straight-edged), and magnetic (snap-to) selections. 2
Selection, Crop, and Slice Tools Continued The Magic Wand Tool selects similarly colored areas. The Crop Tool trims images. The Slice Tool creates slices. Retouching Tools The Spot Healing Brush Tool removes blemishes and objects. The Healing Brush Tool paints with a sample or pattern to repair imperfections in an image. The Patch Tool repairs imperfections in a selected area of an image using a sample pattern. The Red Eye Tool removes the red reflection caused by a flash. The Eraser Tool erases pixels and restores parts of an image to a previously saved state. The Background Eraser Tool erases areas to transparency by dragging. The Magic Eraser tool erases solid-colored areas to transparency with a single click. The Blur Tool blurs hard edges in an image. The Sharpen Tool sharpens soft edges in an image. The Smudge Tool smudges data in an image. The Dodge Tool lightens areas in an image. The Burn Tool darkens areas in an image. The Sponge Tool changes the color saturation of an area. 4
Painting Tools The Brush Tool paints brush strokes. The Pencil Tool paints hard-edged strokes. The Color Replacement Tool replaces a selected color with a new color. The History Brush Tool paints a copy of the selected state or snapshot into the current image window. The Art History Brush Tool paints with stylized strokes that simulate the look of different paint styles, using a selected state or snapshot. The gradient Tools create straight-line, radial, angle, reflected, and diamond blends between colors. The Paint Bucket Tool fills similarly colored areas with the foreground color. 5
Drawing and Type Tools The Path Selection Tools make shape or segment selections showing anchor points, direction lines, and direction points. The Pen Tools let you draw smooth-edged paths. The Shape Tools and Line Tool draw shapes and lines in a normal layer or shape layer. The Custom Shape Tool makes customized shapes selected from a custom shape list. The Type Tools create type on an image. The Type Mask Tools create a selection in the shape of type. Annotation, Measuring, and Navigation Tools The Annotation Tools make notes and audio annotations that can attach to an image. The Eyedropper Tool samples colors in an image. This is how it is done. Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts In the Set field Select the Default set. Select the Product Area (Application Menus, Palette Menus, Tools) Select the Command. Highlight the Current Shortcut and Remove. Enter New Shortcut. Click Assign. When you are done, Click OK. 7
Palettes The Options Bar The Options Bar appears below the menu bar at the top of the work area. As you select different tools from the Toolbar, the Options Bar changes and displays different tool settings. Move Tool Options Bar Display: Text Tool Options Bar Display: Side Palettes On the right side of the screen are grouped and collapsed palettes. Photoshop has many palettes to work with. These palettes can placed in the workspace by opening the Window menu and Clicking on a palette. Docking Palettes On the upper right corner of the control palette is a small arrow, Click on the ar- Collapsing & Grouping Palettes If a palette is floating in the workspace you can collapse it into two different states. To collapse a palette into its different states, Double Click on the tab. To collapse a grouped palette Click on the tab. To group palettes, Click and Drag the palette into a palette group. Grouped palettes can be repositioned by Clicking and Dragging on the groups outline with the Selection tool. You can expand the palette group by using the Selection tool and placing your curser over the outline for the group. The curser will change into a double headed arrow, Click and Drag to on the outline to expand the group. Doing this action will make the palette tabs easier to see. Resetting & Saving Your Workspace Window>Workspace>Save Workspace. Name new worspace. Click OK. Resetting workspace Window>Workspace>Default 8
