Well it's the start of a brand new year. Wishing all of you a very prosperous New Year... Our club Christmas party was a great success and we missed those of you that couldn't make it. Please try and attend our monthly meeting this month as we have a lot to discuss. There are 5 upcoming events to talk about and much more. Please be thinking ahead for some ideas for our monthly programs this year, we are searching for someone to volunteer as "Program Director". If you are new to our club and looking for a way to get involved, Program Director is a good start. Looking forward to seeing you at the Membership Meeting on Jan. 11th... Jim Lawhon 2018 Dues are due! $20. If you write a check, make it to Scott Hegel (not AMDC, as we do not have a DBA.) Get dues in by Feb. to get card for Show

January Meeting Our program this month will include a number of items of interest to the Club. Scott will give a Treasurer s report, we will review our Veteran s Day Hunt, the Christmas party and highlight upcoming events. Larry Vickers will present a short program on Coils. Do plan to attend to hear all the news! We will have our Find of the Month competition featuring items found since the November meeting. The FOM form is the last page of this newsletter, and Daniel and Susie will have copies at the meeting. Reminder Josh Graham will be collecting recyclables, so bring any you have been saving. Polley Mansion Detecting Project On Saturday, Jan. 13, TAMDC is hosting an event as part of its Giving Back effort. Michael Heim, TAMDC President has arranged for members of TAMDC Clubs to hunt the grounds around the historic Polley Belle Mansion in LaVernia. NOTE: All items found are to be returned/given to the Polley Mansion. To make it fun, Micheal has arranged for some prizes, and there will be a fund raiser as well to raise $ for a donation to the Polley Mansion Historic site. More information will be available at the meeting, and the flyer for this event can be found as a link on the TAMDC website tamdc.org. AMDC CHRISTMAS PARTY Our party was fun and successful! We had a great turnout, great food, great company, and successful fund raiser. Thanks to all who helped organize, set up, cleaned up, cooked, brought fund raiser prizes and bought tickets, etc. Here are just a few pics. AMDC is on Face Book! Be sure and check out and Like the Group

Executive Meeting Our meetings are the first Thursdays of most months, at 6:00. We will meet at the Bill Miller s at 709 E. Ben White (right at I-35). All are welcome at any Board meetings. We usually come early to visit and grab a bite; the meeting begins at 6:00. Thoughts for the New Year - This is a repeat from last year, but good to consider.. As we kick off a New Year in our hobby, please consider these Questions: Why did I join the Austin Metal Detecting Club? The answer is different for each of us, but might include things such as to find out where to go detecting, or to get help selecting a detector or to meet others who like to detect. Please also ask yourself, What can I contribute to the club? What are my special interests, talents and skills that I can offer to help make the club even better? Perhaps you have a long detecting history with knowledge to share. Perhaps you are good at finding and getting permission to detect sites. Perhaps you are good at welcoming newcomers, or working on making interesting displays. The list is unlimited. Together we can make the Austin Metal Detecting Club a model club - one that people talk about and are proud to be a member of. As we begin this New Year, let s answer these questions for ourselves and make a vow to step up. We can make a difference! Lost and Found Efforts Since the last report we have two requests to search for lost items. The first request was to search for ladies platinum wedding ring that was lost in the couple s back yard some months back. Fred went out to search, but after two hours came up empty handed. It is not certain the ring was lost in the yard. A second request came in through the Next Door posting, and Scott Hegel s wife Sherry noted that there was a lost UT class ring. Scott went to search in the yard where it was thought to have been lost - on Christmas morning, and found the ring quickly. Santa was good, for sure! Many thanks to those who serve on these searches. It takes a lot of time and effort to go out, but it is always appreciated even if the item(s) are not located.

VETERANS DAY HUNT! On Sat. Nov. 11, AMDC hosted a killer hunt at Old Settler s RV Park in Round Rock. TAMDC joined us, and had a separate hunt. We had a GREAT turnout, folks from all over the state, and many AMDC members came to help and participate. Thanks to all, but special thanks to Jim (who got the whole thing together!) and Mitch and Alan for the idea to cook burgers and making that happen. Here are a few pics of the fun! AMDC Website Remember to check our web site often to see what s there! Our web site is: http://www.amdconline.com Newsletter Contest! We continue our drawing for a prize at the meetings. If you can answer the mystery question correctly taken from information in the newsletter, your name may be drawn. Good luck!
