About SIMTech The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) is a research institute of the Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). SIMTech develops high value manufacturing technology and human capital to contribute to the competitiveness of the Singapore industry. Manufacturing Process Division Research Engineer (Metal & Ceramic Team), Forming Technology Group Successful candidates will have opportunities to participate in research and industry projects related to metal casting and forming technologies. To design tooling and dies for the casting and forming processes using CAD software To perform process simulation using casting and forming using CAE simulation tools To handle molten metal, its associated melt treatment and alloy development process To conduct processing trials and experimental analysis To conduct microstructural studies and mechanical testing of the metallic specimens To interpret customer product drawings and specifications A good degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering Research Engineers (Polymer Processing Team), Forming Technology Group Successful candidates will be involved in R&D projects related to the development of polymer structural foam technology, conducting experimental studies and product characterization to understand factors influencing the morphology of the foam morphology for different types of polymers. Exposed to training in polymer characterisation techniques and polymer processing techniques such as extrusion foaming, injection molding, twin screw compounding, compression molding, etc.. Involved in supporting industry projects. Main duties will include, but not limited to: Machine & mold set-up for experimental studies, including identifying and sourcing auxiliary device to support the studies Conduct process studies for different processing techniques of foaming polymers Preparation of polymer blends and composites using twin screw compounders Perform material characterization on polymers and polymer foams Preparation of technical reports & presentation slides A good degree in Mechanical Engineering or Material Science. Research Engineer (Metal Joining Team), Joining Technology Group Successful candidates will work as a team member of the metal joining team of scientists to develop various metal joining technologies, including arc welding, friction stir welding, laser welding and additive manufacturing. Duties include but not limited to roles and responsibilities while receiving on-the-job training under the MRDC Programme: Understanding and optimising process and post processing parameters for laser welding / laser aided additive manufacturing Understanding the effect of process parameters on porosity, microstructure and final mechanical properties of the component Operation of state-of-the-art additive manufacturing equipment for R&D projects

Maintain inventory of lab supplies and equipment, prepare orders for scientific sourcing and procurement Design and execute laboratory experiments, analyse and interpret results, and adjust experimental designs as necessary Writing of technical reports and presentation of technical results Maintain project documentation, including test methods, test reports and validation protocols Participate in industry projects for project execution and reporting A good degree in Materials / Mechanical Engineering Research Engineer (Polymer Joining Team), Joining Technology Group Project 1 The job focuses on material and design combination to achieve high stiffness, low weight structures. This is intended to be done through numerical analysis and design as well as material implementation by 3D additive manufacturing methods. Key tasks include material development for 3D printing with flame retardant properties, material and component characterisation primarily through mechanical testing, as well as material / component optimisation. Candidates should have interest and / or background in aerospace engineering and use of numerical methods. Familiarity with additive manufacturing, numerical methods and computer simulation as well as experience in laboratory work is advantages. Successful candidates should have a good degree in BSc/BEng, Aerospace Engineering / Materials Science or equivalent. Research Engineer (Polymer Joining Team) Project 2 The job focuses on the development of direct bonding methods of plastic materials to prepare plastic assemblies that are highly biocompatible and free from foreign materials. Among others, these methods may involve ultrasonic, thermal and solvent bonding processes. Bonding of dissimilar materials will be needed as well. The work will involve the preparation of specimens for bonding, bonding process development, mechanical testing of bonded parts, basic evaluation of bond reliability, and liaison for preliminary biocompatibility tests. Apart from hands-on experimental work, interpretation of test results will be required followed by adjustments and improvements to the bonding process. Candidates should have a good degree in BSc/BEng, Materials Science or similar field Experience in laboratory work and knowledge of mechanical testing methods is advantages

Research Engineers (Mechanical Machining Team), Machining Technology Group Application of machining dynamic system to actual machining cases in industries High aspect ratio turning dynamics for industrial applications Design of customised dynamic fixtures for chatter reduction Computer-aided design and manufacturing operations Interact with local industries for technical support and training Machine operations, machining process, data acquisition, and chatter analysis Team work and engineering communications Dynamic analysis of light weight structure machining for industrial application Simulation and analysis of dynamic multi-axis CNC machining Operations of multi-axis CNC machine tools Computer-aided design and manufacturing operations Applicants should have a good degree in Mechanical / Manufacturing engineering Research Engineer (Laser Precision Machining) Conduct R&D in laser precision machining of a range of materials, including CFRP, polymer, metals and ceramics To operate lasers including UV solid-state laser, fibre laser and ultrashort lasers for materials processing To perform simulation of laser ablation process To characterise laser-processed surfaces for thermal effects, microstructural changes, surface profile and roughness Writing technical reports For fresh graduates, the work focuses on laser materials removal processes, including laser cutting, drilling and surface texturing. Analytical instruments will be used to analyse laser-machined samples for heat affected zones, surface roughness and cleanliness Candidate should have a good degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or Materials Engineering Research Engineer (Electrochemical Process Team) Surface Technology Group A background on organic chemistry and electrochemical processes is required to successfully complete the projects. Successful candidate will be required to use various electrochemical processes to solidify / precipitate organic compounds out of industrial wastewater and convert the solids into energy. The possible electrochemical processes include electro-polymerisation, electroflotation and electro-coagulation, novel filtration/separation process and post treatment process for final conversion of the solidified organics to energy. A good degree in Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry

Research Engineer (Measurements & Characterisation Unit) A good degree in Materials, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering or equivalent Successful candidate will participate in research and industry projects to establish corrosion test capabilities in the corrosion lab Knowledge of corrosion and material characterisation is essential Manufacturing System Division Job Requirements Develop applications in data analytics for mobile devices and Web platforms Develop tools in data display, data analytics for Android Mobile Applications and Web Applications Programming in R/C#/ Python/HTML5/MS SQL for web-based and smart phone applications to enable Industrie 4.0 Knowledge in WEKA, Apache Spark, Google Platform, Mongo DB is a plus Create Apps with App Analytics and IoT to enable smart manufacturing/machines Enable data connectivity with machine controller and sensors for data analytics and machine learning Fresh graduate applicants should have a good Honours degree in Computing, Computer Engineering or Computer Science. Applicant should be interested in web applications development, data analytics prototype using Matlab/C++/Python or like to tinker with IoT devices and sensors. Some hands-on experience, and the ability to communicate well is a plus. Ability to identify problems and translate into software applications will be an advantage. Successful candidates with gain on-the-job training pertinent to machine learning application in shop-floor, signal processing, data acquisition from sensors or machines, SMART-technologies such as drones, and virtual reality with familiarity in programming in C#, Python/Labview, Matlab or R or Java; data management using MS SQL, etc. Job requirements Successful candidate will gain on-the-job training pertinent to analysis in value chain / supply chain, functional and process levels, including the challenges of developing new information architecture and processes, mapping out the value chain / supply chain, processes, interfaces and information flows etc. with interview results; identify gaps opportunities in specific improvement areas, validate the findings with key stakeholders. Fresh graduates will learn to carry out value stream mapping and business process analysis. Opportunities are available for research engineers to work on some projects involving the applications of the latest technologies in IoT, analytics, and cloud technologies. To develop and test electronic controller hardware and software for companies that need machine interface and control Knowledge of electronics design, PCB design, Software development using assembly, VB, C++ To work on the mechatronics equipment operating system for automation, handling and motion control To develop and test software for companies that need to have a software developed and customised for their processes Candidates should have a good degree in EE or Computer Engineering preferably with knowledge of software development using VB, C#, C++ Research Engineer (Industrial Robotics) Successful candidates will work with a team of scientists and engineers to look into the development of new robot programming solutions to improve the applications of robotics automation in high mix low volume production or repair processes. Those who possess practical knowledge of kinematics, sensing, programming skills, robotics modelling and control will be an advantage. Candidate should have a good degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering. Emerging Applications Division Research Engineer (Microfluidics Manufacturing Programme, Process Team) Candidate should have a good degree in mechanical engineering Knowledge of polymer fabrication process is preferred successful candidate will be responsible for the development of manufacturing process techniques for fabricating polymer microfluidic devices Contribute to the project through mechanical design, experiment design, process optimisation, material property and geometric characterisation, and data analysis Research Engineer (Large Area Processing Programme, Application Team) Successful candidate will learn to develop solutions for various applications of printed functional films such as printed lighting film, touch sensing and wireless

communication device in automotive, building, precision engineering, print and media industry Candidate should have a good degree in Electronics and Electrical Engineering or Mechatronics Research Engineer (Large Area Processing (Process Team) Successful candidate will work with the team in the following areas: Formulation of sensor materials Design of large format printable device (temperature sensor, humidity sensor, etc.) Developing multi-layer process for sensor / device manufacturing Device printing and encapsulation / passivation Device testing and characterisation Work with industry companies for the development and commercialisation of printed electronics / device / functional films.
