Blitz Demolition Volunteers: Things You Need to Know We ask that you register in advance to come to the construction site, and that you turn in a filled out and signed liability waiver when you attend. For this special week, we are able to waiver the training requirement, but you will need to attend a training and orientation before you will be able to volunteer with Habitat again in the future. Construction days are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. You should plan to arrive at the work site by about 8:15 a.m. in order to sign in and be ready to receive site orientation and work assignments. Please note: if it is necessary for us to cancel work at a construction site for any reason, information will be recorded on our office phone system please check for messages after 7 a.m. on your scheduled work day at (860) 442-7890, press 5. Please bring the following: Important: Your own food and drink for lunch, (water and morning snacks are provided) Sturdy work boots or shoes (Sandals or other open-toed shoes are not permitted on the work site) Long pants and long sleeve shirts are recommended, except during very hot weather. Clothing should not be excessively loose, such that it might get caught in tools or machinery and cause injury. You may want to bring your own work gloves, hammer, or tool belt. Habitat for Humanity will provide you with these if you don t bring your own. Depending on the weather, you may want to dress in layers (which can be modified as the day progresses). Bring a hat, safety goggles, and a tool belt if you have it. There will be tools on site, but many people prefer to use their own tools and anything you can bring with you is welcome, except that we ask that you to not bring any power tools with you we use only our Habitat for Humanity power tools at our work sites. Remember to take your personal tools home with you at the end of the day. Youth under the age of 18 are not permitted to volunteer to do demolition, in accordance with CT state labor laws and our insurance policy.
