Saint Louis Watercolor Society s Big Splash 2017 20 th Annual Membership Awards Exhibition 1900 Park Creative Space 1900 Park Avenue Saint Louis, MO 63104 Oct. 6 26, 2017 Open: Tuesdays, Wednesday, Thursdays 10 am to 2 pm About our Judge Lisa Ober, PSA, IAPS/MC, is a portrait and still life painter, workshop teacher, and owner of OA Gallery, a fine art gallery in St. Louis, MO. When not in her studio painting or busy at the gallery she travels as a workshop instructor, teaching and encouraging painting enthusiasts of all ages the techniques she has developed over thirty years of professional painting. Ober s work has appeared in numerous publications including Southwest Art, The Pastel Journal, and American Art Collector. She has enjoyed awards in competitions such as Pastel Journal s Pastel 100, Bold Brush, and IAPS Pastel World. Collectors have recognized Ober s work for its clever content, exquisite realism, and detail. Ober is a signature member of Pastel Society of America and a Master Circle member of IAPS, as well as a board member for Hope Creates, an organization that connects young people in recovery from addiction to the creative process. She is also a founding board member of Marketing My Art, a St. Louis based not-for-profit that trains visual artists how to market and sell their work.

Juror s Statement First, thank you to the St. Louis Watercolor Society for inviting me to get a preview of your show and for asking my opinion of the great work on display. And of course, that's what it is; an opinion informed by the elements that make a great painting (color, composition, technique, story). Yet when judging artwork, there is often the more subjective viewpoint that creeps in from our own experiences as well. I find the visual impact, emotional connection, the story, and the charm of the piece often come into play. ALL OF THESE played a part in the choices I've made for your awards. This show contains everything one would hope for an exhibit, from fine examples of mature technique to the charm of subject matter, and I believe that range of appealing qualities is well represented in the winning pieces. Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all artists in the show for the visual treat!
