The Pentagon Chapter will hold elections for the upcoming year. I can t believe it s that time again! Get your nominations in or nominate yourself! Be on the lookout for emails detailing the process. It will also be posted on the NCMA Pentagon website. In this issue of the newsletter, the NCMA Pentagon Chapter is proud to announce some of our upcoming events. First, for our April dinner meeting, we have a fabulous guest speaker: VADM Lou Crenshaw (retired). Then, we are hosting a training event in conjuction with PCI also in April. Finally, we have another fantastic speaker lined up for our May dinner meeting with Mr. Bill Kaplan! Take advantage of the early registration deal. Officer Spotlight The new chapter program year runs from July 1, 2016 through June 30, 2017. Please review the background of our new officers, whom you will get to meet at our first event of the new program year, held in July. Ms. Lynn Sims (President) - Lynn is an Acquisition Manager with the Department of State. She has over 17 years of Contract Management experience with DOD and Civilian agencies. She received her Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Virginia Wesleyan College and an MBA from Liberty University. Ms. Lisa Grant Tillman, CFCM (Treasurer) - Lisa was promoted to Senior Contracts Analyst with Information Technology Solutions & Consulting (ITSC). She currently supports the Defense Health Agency, Contract Operations Division, National Capital Region. She became a member of the Pentagon Chapter in July 2012 and started volunteering immediately. She has been a member of the Executive Committee since January 2013, the Elections Chair during Program Year 2013-2014, and Vice-President of Membership during Program Year 2014-15. Ms. Tillman has also led the Pentagon Chapter CFCM Study Group, from May 20 to July 29, 2015. Ms. Keisha Simmons, CPCM, CFCM (Secretary) - Keisha is a Senior Contract Specialist with the Department of Defense Washington Headquarters Services Acquisition Directorate. She received her Bachelor s in Acquisition and Contract Management and her Master's in Management from Strayer University. Keisha has successfully completed the Department of Interior Government-wide Acquisition Management Intern Program in September 2011. Keisha is DAWIA Level III Certified in Contracting, Level II Certified in Purchasing, and a member of the Defense Acquisition Corps. She became a member of the Pentagon Chapter in March 2012 and started volunteering immediately. She has held the position of Grants Chair for the past 3 years. Ms. Simmons has also been facilitating the Pentagon Chapter CFCM study group. Ms. Sara Brown (Secretary-elect) - Sara is a Proposal Contracts Representative who completed her Bachelor s Degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. She has been with NCMA since 2015, volunteering as the Elections Chair during Program Year 2015-2016. 2 Business Excellence through Contract Management Excellence March 2017
Pentagon Member spotlight Mrs. Keisha Simmons is a Contracting and Grants Officer with the Department of Defense Washington Headquarters Services Acquisition Directorate. She currently holds NCMA certifications, CPCM and CFCM. In addition, she is DAWIA Level III certificated in Contracting and Level II certificated in Purchasing. She has been a NCMA member since 2012. She has served as the Grants Chairperson for the past 3 years and is currently serving as the Pentagon Chapter s Secretary. In addition, she has been facilitating the Pentagon Chapter s CFCM study group. Mrs. Simmons grew up in the Bronx, New York and as also lived in Wichita Falls, Texas and Annapolis, Maryland. For fun, she spends time with her family and friends, watches TV and she enjoys reading. Lou was a Principal in the global accounting firm, Grant Thornton, LLP from 2007-2013 where he was the National Industry Partner in charge of the firm s Aerospace and Defense Industry segment. Lou was also the Defense and Intelligence Sector lead in Grant Thornton s Global Public Sector. From 1974-2007 Lou was in the United States Navy, culminating his career as the Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Resources, Requirements and Assessments (N8). He commanded an Attack Squadron (VA-85), Carrier Air Wing (CVW-1), Carrier Battle Group (CCG-8) and the Naval Region Europe. He is a graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces and the Defense Acquisition University Advanced Program Management Course. Mr. Kaplan also holds Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) Level III certifications in Contracting and Program Management and is a Certified Professional Contracts Manager.
