Newsletter A Chapter of the Society of Decorative Painters Volume 35, number 3 May/June 2017 President s Message: A lot of planning went into our March meeting; not only had we ordered a catered lunch but, Rocky Puchalski and her team of volunteers had spent a lot of time preparing the glasses to be painted as luncheon favors. Then, the weather forecast was for an ice storm. We were fortunate enough that we were able to hold our meeting, paint our favors, have lunch and not experience the icy roads. As always, Rocky had spent a lot of time in preparation and, with her hard work and instructions our favors were ready for heat setting. From ice in March to 80 in April, when Nancy Pitcher taught many of us a completely new technique, using rice paper, watercolors and wax. Nancy too had spent a lot of time in preparing for this class with all the items needed to achieve the result. It was the first time many of us had ever done a batik and the results were amazing. Two months with totally different weather conditions and totally new learning experiences. Thank you both Rocky and Nancy for all your hard work. Apply the Bee pattern onto the square, the rest we will trace later.
