Exercise 2-2 Four-Wire Transmitter (Optional) EXERCISE OBJECTIVE Become familiar with HART point-to-point connection of a four-wire transmitter. DISCUSSION OUTLINE The Discussion of this exercise covers the following points: Ultrasonic level transmitter DISCUSSION Two other optional four-wire HART transmitters are available: the Coriolis Flow Transmitter (Model 46924) and the Electromagnetic Flow Transmitter (Model 46922). Ultrasonic level transmitter The ultrasonic level transmitter (Figure 2-15) is an optional measuring device of the instrumentation and process control system. It is a four-wire HART transmitter, meaning that it is powered through two connectors and has two independent connectors for the current loop. In the following exercise, you will establish HART point-to-point communication between this transmitter and FieldCare. You will then change some basic parameters from within FieldCare. Figure 2-15. Outline PROCEDURE OUTLINE The Procedure is divided into the following sections: Set up and connections Communication with FieldCare PROCEDURE Set up and connections 1. Connect the Ultrasonic Level Transmitter and the Commubox according to Figure 2-16. The resistor of the Commubox must be switched on. Table 2-2. Material needed. Name Model HART Software Configurator 46982 Ultrasonic Level Transmitter 46930 Electrical Unit 46970 Accessories 46993 Ultrasonic Level Transmitter Figure 2-16. Ultrasonic Level Transmitter connection. Do not put 24 V dc to the terminals of the Commubox when the integrated resistor is operational (i.e., with the switch in the ON position). This could permanently damage the Commubox. 2. Turn on the Electrical Unit. Using the display and buttons, go to device properties password/reset reset: 333. This resets the Ultrasonic Level Transmitter and returns the device to its default parameters. a Refer to the Ultrasonic Level Transmitter (HART) manual if more detailed information is necessary. 26 Festo Didactic 86050-00
Communication with FieldCare 3. Verify what COM port the Commubox is connected to. You can do that by using Windows Device Manager or the ComPort Finder utility provided on the Commubox driver CD. The default User Name is Administrator. The default password is Admin. 4. Open and log into FieldCare. 5. In the new dialog window, right-click on HART (Point-to-Point) and select Edit (see Figure 2-17). Figure 2-17. Edit Point-to-Point macro. Festo Didactic 86050-00 27
6. In the point-to-point macro configuration window, make sure that your parameters are those of Figure 2-18, except for the COM port, which can be different. Figure 2-18. Point-to-point configuration Window. 7. Click OK and Finish. Your scanning macro HART (Point-to-Point) is ready to use. Double-click on the icon or press Open. When asked if you want to execute the scanning macro, click Yes. A window should appear stating that scanning is in progress. Wait for the device to be detected. 28 Festo Didactic 86050-00
8. After the device has been detected, FieldCare opens the DTM pertaining to the Ultrasonic Level Transmitter (Figure 2-19). Note the presence of the parameters tree at the left of the screen. Clicking on the plus (+) and minus (-) signs opens or closes the different menu levels. Figure 2-19. Ultrasonic DTM Opening. Festo Didactic 86050-00 29
9. Go to MATRIX GROUP SEL. deviceinformation. General information about the transmitter (e.g., model, version) is displayed in Figure 2-20. Figure 2-20. Device information. 30 Festo Didactic 86050-00
10. Go to MATRIX GROUP SEL. level level 1 basic setup input. As shown in Figure 2-21 and Figure 2-22 ( sensor selection menu), the sensor 1, corresponding to model FDU 91, is automatically selected. a This model of transmitter only supports one sensor. 11. Figure 2-23 shows the tank shape sub-menu. Verify that the parameters (tank shape, medium property, and process cond.) are set according to the screen capture. Figure 2-23. Tank shape. Festo Didactic 86050-00 33
12. Figure 2-24 shows the level sub-menu. Change the unit level from % to m using the drop-down menu. Press Enter to confirm the command. Figure 2-24. Unit level. 34 Festo Didactic 86050-00
Ex. 2-2 Four-Wire Transmitter (Optional) Conclusion 13. Finally, reset the transmitter. Go to MATRIX GROUP SEL. device properties password/reset, as shown in Figure 2-25. Enter the reset code 333 and press Enter to confirm. The display on the transmitter will soon reflect the command. Figure 2-25. Reset the transmitter. 14. Use the main switch to power off the Instrumentation and Process Control Training System. CONCLUSION In this exercise, you have configured selected parameters of the four-wire Ultrasonic Level Transmitter using the HART software configurator. Festo Didactic 86050-00 35
