YEAR 4 IPC AND WIDER CURRICULUM TERM 1 FEEL THE FORCE - Without forces to push and pull us along, nothing on Earth or in the wider Universe would move. Forces are so important that it is almost impossible to imagine a world without them and yet, they are invisible. Let s find out more In Science, we ll be finding out: What forces are and where they come from What friction is and how we use friction How we can reduce or increase friction How to measure the strength of a force How magnets and magnetic forces work In Technology, we ll be finding out: How to design and make a marble run How to add sounds, lights and control mechanisms to a structure About extreme and dangerous forces New Beginnings, values and learning powers Golden rules CHRISTIANITY CATION What do Christians learn from the creation story? ICT I can change the appearance of text to increase its effectiveness. I can create, modify and present documents for a particular purpose. I can use a keyboard confidently and make use of a spellchecker to write and review my work. TERM 2 ACTIVE PLANET - The tectonic plates that form the Earth s crust are always moving. Even the smallest movement can cause huge earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis that devastate communities across wide areas. If we can understand what is happening underground we can learn to predict and protect ourselves in the future. TERM 3 IPC UNIT YOUNG ENTRPNEURS - A business is more than just a product or a service. Behind every item that we buy, every service that we use, there is a story. Running a business involves many skills creativity, leadership, team work, communication, budgeting, planning, design, customer-awareness and so on. If we want to become the successful entrepreneurs of the future, then it is important that we understand the thought and hard work that goes into planning and setting up a business and turning our ideas into a reality. In Geography, we ll be finding out: Going for Goals E-safety week and safer internet day About the services and businesses in our local community About different types of products that can be bought around the world About different types of currency around the world What products our host country and home countries import and export In History, we ll be finding out: Christianity What kind of world did Jesus want? How people used to trade in the past How currency has changed through time What goods were available to past societies In Society, we ll be finding out: About our needs and wants How we can create a product for a group of people How we can find out more about what people want In Technology, we ll be finding out: How we can make our product and evaluate it How we can market and advertise our product to a group of people ICT E-safety and safer internet week How we can use what we know about other countries to help our business

TERM 4 IPC UNIT - LAND, SEA AND SKY- Plants and animals can adapt to living almost anywhere on our Earth. Wherever we look on the land, in the sea and in the sky, we find living things that have evolved in unique ways just to live there. In Science, we ll be finding out: How water plants are different from other plants How fish have adapted to living in water How birds are adapted to flying How to create a classification key to group animals About different kinds of rocks and soils How fossils are formed About food chains in different world habitats About the life cycles of plants and animals About different kinds of rocks and soils In Technology, we ll be finding out: How to set up an aquarium How environmental changes are a threat to the world s coral reefs About Earth Day and how we can help our planet British Values Christianity Why do Christians call the day that Jesus died Good Friday? Hinduism What does it mean to be a Hindu in Britain today? ICT I can organise data in different ways. I can collect data and identify where it could be inaccurate. I can plan, create and search a database to answer questions. I am confident to explore new media to extend what I can achieve my friends. TERM 5 TEMPLES, TOMBS AND TASUS - The people who helped create the first great civilisations were not unlike you and me. Today we can learn a lot about these people and their way of life through the things they left behind from everyday objects to magnificent and rare treasures In History, we ll be finding out: Why rivers were important to ancient civilisations What daily life was like in Ancient Egypt Good to be Me and Cultural Awareness
