Graphcs Manufacturng! CAUTION Before usng any equpment, always read the manufacturer s nstructons for safe operaton. Screen Prntng Formulatons and processng condtons can affect nk durablty. Refer to the Product and Instructon Bulletns for your nk for lmtatons and proper usage. Ink seres 1900 and some colors n nk seres 9800 are opaque. Be aware that opaque nk can prevent the flm from retroreflectng n the screen prnted areas. Ink seres 2900 and the transparent colors from nk seres 9800 are good choces when retroreflecton s mportant n the screen prnted areas. For graphcs subjected to fuel vapors or occasonal splls, use screen prntng nk seres 2900 and clear 1920DR. Oven dry the last color and the clear when usng solvent-based nks on graphcs needed for any corrugated applcaton. Cuttng See 3M Instructon Bulletn 4.1 for Sheetng, Scorng and Flm Cuttng detals. Graphc Protecton Graphc protecton may mprove the appearance, performance and durablty of the graphc. Clck on the graphc protecton optons lsted n Product Bulletn or see the 3M Graphcs Market Product Catalog, for more nformaton. Applcaton Tapes There are two types of applcaton tapes. See 3M Instructon Bulletn AT-1 to determne what applcaton tape s recommended for your flm or fnshed graphc. Premaskng Tape Increases stffness durng applcaton whle preventng stretchng and damage. Use when lttle or no lner s exposed. See 3M Instructon Bulletn 4.3 for complete detals. Prespacng Tape Holds cut and weeded letters or graphcs n place durng applcaton and after removng the flm lner, whle preventng stretchng and damage. Use when large amounts of lner are exposed. See 3M Instructon Bulletn 4.3 for complete detals. Do not attempt to exchange the lner. Ths wll compromse the sldeablty of the flm, and could negatvely mpact adheson or appearance of the appled graphc, whch s not covered by any 3M warranty. Product Bulletn 680CR Release T 5

Applcaton and Installaton Ths flm s not recommended for use on low surface energy substrates such as some plastcs, powder-coated pant, etc. The user must assume responsblty for testng and approvng these substrates. Ths flm can be appled over other recommended 3M graphc systems. Graphcs prnted wth clear 1920DR must be weathered for at least one year before applyng ths flm over t. See 3M Instructon Bulletn 5.1 for detals. In addton to other 3M Bulletns specfed n ths document, the followng Bulletns provde detals that you may need to successfully apply a graphc. 3M Instructon Bulletn 5.4. Applcaton, Fleet Trucks. 3M Instructon Bulletn 5.5 Applcaton, General Procedures for Interor and Exteror Dry Applcaton UV nkjet nks may crack f too much heat s used durng graphc applcaton to complex curves and deep contours as well as around rvets. When usng heat durng applcaton, make sure the flm surface temperature does not exceed 212 F (100 C). For best results, always do a test applcaton of a prnted graphc to determne how much heat can be used wthout damagng the mage. 3M recommends usng addtonal heat n the post-applcaton process for vehcle graphcs. Durng ths process, 3M only recommends usng a heat gun to make sure the flm surface temperature reaches a mnmum of 200 F (93 C) and does not exceed 225 F (107 C). Pressure-actvated Adhesve The pressure actvated adhesve on ths flm offers: smooth sldng nto poston on a substrate; fast fnger tackng to check poston; and The sldeablty feature s lost: when frm pressure wth a squeegee or other applcaton tool s appled. at applcaton temperatures above 100 F (38 C) even f only lght fnger pressure was used for tackng. f any part of the flm s removed from the orgnal lner and reappled to the same or another lner. solvent from nkjet nk has not completely dred or cured. Workng wth Ar Release Channels Ar release channels are a characterstc of flms wth Comply adhesve that allow trapped ar to ext through the edges of the graphc. The channels wll be damaged and effectve ar removal affected f you remove and attempt to change lners or reapply the same lner. For the best results, always work from the center out to the edges of the graphc to allow trapped ar to ext through the ar release channels. If the channels are closed off by frm pressure and ar s trapped, use an ar release tool to ad n removng ar bubbles. See 3M Instructon Bulletn 5.4 for detals. Vdeo Clck here to see how 3M s Comply adhesve technology works. 6 Product Bulletn 680CR Release T

Mantenance and Cleanng Use a cleaner desgned for hgh-qualty panted surfaces. The cleaner must be wet, non-abrasve, wthout solvents, and have a ph value between 3 and 11 (nether strongly acdc nor strongly alkalne). See 3M Instructon Bulletn 6.5 for detals. Removal Removal requres heat and/or chemcals. The ease and rate of removal depends on a number of factors. See 3M Instructon Bulletn 6.5 for detals. Shelf Lfe, Storage and Shppng Shelf Lfe The shelf lfe s never more than 3 years from the date of manufacture on the orgnal box. If you process the flm, the shelf lfe s changed to 1 year from the processng date, but not later than the 3 year maxmum from the manufacturng date. Storage Condtons 40 to 100 F (4 to 38 C) Out of sunlght Clean, dry area Orgnal contaner Brng the flm to prnt room temperature before usng Shppng Fnshed Graphcs Flm wth prespaced graphcs usng 3M Prespacng Tape SCPS-55 appled: Flat only All other constructons: Flat, or rolled prnted sde out on 6 nch (15 cm) or larger core. Ths helps prevent the applcaton tape, f used, from poppng off. Health and Safety! CAUTION When handlng any chemcal products, read the manufacturer s contaner labels and the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for mportant health, safety and envronmental nformaton. To obtan SDS sheets for 3M products go to 3M.com/SDS, or by mal or n case of an emergency, call 1-800-364-3577 or 1-651-737-6501. ASTM D-4956 covers flexble, non-exposed glass bead lens and mcroprsmatc, retroreflectve sheetng desgned for use on traffc control sgns, delneators, barrcades, and other devces. For Type I sheetng, t specfcally covers the followng colors: Whte, Yellow, Orange, Green, Red, Blue, and Brown. As defned n ASTM D-4956, flm seres 680CR s classfed as Type I sheetng wth a Class 3 adhesve. For the correspondng colors covered by ASTM D-4956, wth the excepton of Orange, flm seres 680CR meets the requrements specfed n secton 6.1.1. When usng any equpment, always follow the manufacturer s nstructons for safe operaton. Standards Ths nformaton s mportant for applcatons that are regulated by ASTM or NFPA standards, for example, traffc control sgns, emergency vehcles and certan ralroad graphcs. The user s solely responsble for determnng and complyng wth all current and applcable local, state and federal regulatons regardng the use and applcaton of graphcs materals.
