OUR MONTHLY QUILT TALK Volume 34, No. 9 Saline County Quilters Guild Newsletter September 2017 Eddie Landreth, Editor Website: www.quilttalk.org Dear Quilting Friends: President's Message I don't know where to start, this has been such a great week for our guild. Fay Poe did an outstanding job in securing Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles to come do a lecture and two days of classes. She was the best, I am so excited about her technique of layered patchwork, so easy and fast. I have said that I will have to live to be 200 years old to get all the things done that I have on my radar. If you missed the meeting Monday night you missed a treat of a lifetime. This guild is such a joy, I am so very thankful for each of you and what you contribute to make it the best. I am especially thankful that all of us are willing to share our skills and help new quilters and new members. There are so many positive aspects of quilting and am so glad that our members offer encouragement where we can. We have so many things going on in the guild and there is something for everyone to get involved in with much more to come. Quilting brings so much joy and I am so glad that we share that with others. Happy Quilting, Sondra OFFICERS President: Sondra Curtis 1 st VP: 2 nd VP: Sheila Bird Secretary: Becky McGuire Treasurer: Pat Wade September Birthdays Happy Birthday! Email: sfmiller37@aol.com or call 501-413-8175 ~ Workshop ~ I think everyone really enjoyed having Lynn Hagmeier from Kansas Troubles here to do a Trunk Show and classes. Everyone who took her classes learned a new technique and should have their quilt tops ready to show at the next guild meeting. NO excuses!!! This project is for members who will be able to use the simple shapes to trace and cut their fabrics. The class fee will be $5.00 payable before or at the workshop. Please bring all necessary items for cutting, tracing and sewing with you. September 23rd, 2017 - We will also have the library to continue working on this project for the same time frame. Thank you, Cely Slover 2

~ Library Report ~ Trip to Ireland by Elizabeth Hamby Carlson is a fun book to look through, and the instructions are very easy to understand. The author has combined the Irish Chain pattern with the Trip Around the World pattern, and the results are all beautiful. Emphasis is placed on fabric choices and there is a lot of flexibility in choosing pattern details. Directions are provided for projects of different sizes, some of the quilts are soft in color, while others are quite bold; I love every one of them! Though I have made an Irish Chain quilt, combining it with Trip Around the World tempts me to try one of these Irish Trips (Quick and Easy Irish Trip, Smithsonian Irish Trip, Christmas Crossing Chains). You might be interested in taking an Irish Trip, too --- just CHECK IT OUT. Myrna Yandell ~ Minutes of Meeting ~ The Saline County Quilt Guild met on August 21, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church in Benton, Arkansas. The meeting was called to order by President Sondra Curtis. The previous minutes and treasurer s report were approved. Committee reports: Library: Myrna Yandell reported there are a lot of good books in the library. She encouraged members to check it out. There will be a review of one of the books in the newsletter. She said there was room in Wednesday s class for more people. Charity Quilts: Sidney Morris reported of receiving a thank you note from Arkansas Children s Hospital for the quilts that were donated.
