The holidays are just around the corner and I for one see time passing way too fast. I haven t accomplished a few goals for this year. Yes, I wanted to paint more, get my paint room more organized and loose a few pounds. Can I accomplish any of these things in 3 months and, if not, is it important? Not really, they can all wait until next year. What I did gain this year is a sense that life will change at the wink of an eye, when we aren t looking. Take time to enjoy painting, along with the learning process. Reach beyond your comfort level and take a class with a new teacher or a different medium. Develop your own style, no two artists will paint the same picture, they will see it from different angles with a different interest. But most of all, enjoy what you do and do it as often as possible. Happy Painting, Dawn NEWSLETTER EDITOR Carol Brown cbrown207@tampabay.rr.com October Birthdays Debi Crook 12

Programs/Seminars October Program Permission granted by Arlene Linton Taught by Barbara Layton Program participation to be paid for with $10 in Decorative Dollars!! There will be $1 charge if you would like Barbara Layton to provide the surface. Barb is ready to show you how to paint beautiful lace by using simple strokes and dots as taught by Arlene Linton. You won't want to miss this exciting technique! "Butterflies & Lace" from Arlene Linton's book: "Linens & Lace Collection, Volume II" Supplies: Brush: #4 Round (Arlene uses Scharff Series 3000, Kilinsky Sable, Round #4). http://www.rainbowsbeginning.com/scharff_series_3000_round_4.html Gray palette paper, paper towel, small plastic container for water to clean brush, kneaded eraser. Prepare Surface: MDF Surface - MDF should not be sanded and does not need to be sealed. Paint two coats of the basecoat color, dry, and then sand lightly to smooth. Paint an additional coat. Keep in mind the color used to basecoat the surface would accent the lace more if it were a dark shade of color. Bring this paint with you to class. 2

November Program Santa Designed and Taught by Pat Lentine This is a terrific opportunity to take a class from Pat. Class fee is $30. Supplies: Sanford Prismacolor Pencils: 914 - Cream 943 Burnt Ochre 923 - Scarlet Lake 946 Dark Brown 924 - Crimson Red 1021 Jade Green 927 - Light Peach 928 - Blush 1060 - Cool Grey 20% 1063 - Cool Grey 50% 1065 - Cool Grey 70% 935 - Black 937 - Tuscan Red 938 - White 939 - Peach 1077 - Colorless Blender Krylon Workable Fixatif 1306 (This will be needed but will not be used in class.) Pastel -White (hard pastel) Canson Mi-Teintes paper: Color - Sand 8 x 10 (supplied in class) 8 x 10 drawing board Pencil Sharpener, Stylus, Eraser Grey or old Black Graphite White acrylic paint, Liner brush Pencil Sharpener-Everyone needs to have access to a battery operated or electric pencil sharpener. If using electric, the cords need to be out of the way of traffic. (Boston battery sharpeners are NOT good). The electric Boston is ok. Panasonic or Foray (available at Staples) battery operated sharpeners are good. You are looking for a sharpener with gears not one that has a hand held sharpener with a motor. 3
