Cabarrus Quilters Guild Newsletter October 2011 From the President s Desk: Fall is finally upon us. Halloween has passed and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. It s a time to be thankful for the friends and family in our lives, and a time to count our blessings. November is also the month that we as quilters remember the woman and children of Concord that are less fortunate than us. This month we will be donating our cuddle quilts to CVAN. Laura is both a contemporary quilt maker and creator of hand-dyed fabrics and threads. Please check out her website at www.artfabrik.com. This month we will present our Cuddle Quilts to CVAN. Next month will be our Christmas Party and gift exchange (optional). Rebecca and Candy September, 2011 Minutes: Stephanie Newbrough opened the meeting by welcoming guests and recognizing members birthdays. Stephanie notified members that there were new items for our library. There are two DVD s, four cd s, four books, and two new patterns. These were acquired at the Ricky Tims Seminar. The present nominations for officers for the 2012 elections are as follows: President Carol Harris; Vice-president Barbara Orr; Secretary Joyce Furr; Treasurer Marsha Haney. Stephanie reminded members that Cuddle Quilts are due at the November meeting. She also stated that fabric had been donated to the Guild which was to be used for Charity Projects only. Laura Wasilowski presented the program for the evening I quilt, therefore, I am and introduced us to her Chicago School of Fusing. Laura shared several pictures of her quilts and entertained us with stories and songs throughout her presentation. It was a very enjoyable evening. Laura s website is artfabrik.com. You can also follow her blog at artfabrik.blogspot.com. The meeting was adjourned after Show and Tell of members quilts. Rebecca Verrier-Watt gave an unofficial account of the results of our Quilt show. More details will be given at the next meeting. Page 2 of 5

Sign up for Refreshments and Greeting: As you plan which months you will help with refreshments and greeting, we ask that you do not sign up for both volunteer jobs in the same month. The signup sheets will be available at each meeting for you to sign up until full. Newsletter Information: Every paid member will receive the newsletter in an e-mail early in the month. If you wish to have your newsletter mailed, there will be a small $10.00 charge to help defray the cost of paper and postage. It will also be available on the guild website for everyone. No personal information will be available in this copy of the newsletter. November Greeters: Carol Harris, Carol Diaz Refreshments: November Refreshments: We have volunteers but I didn t get the names. Cabarrus Quilters Guild Membership Dues are $30 per year. If you are joining for the first time, the dues are $35 to cover the cost of your badge. Sew Tuesdays: Mildred Lamb quiltnut3@windstream.net Do you need help with a technique or a project? Mildred is the best. Sew Tuesdays are held the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Concord Senior Center. Contact Mildred Lamb at the above address, or call her at 704-933-9603 to let her know you are planning to attend. We plan to add community projects to do either on Sew Tuesdays or Saturday sewing sessions. We will talk about this in the meeting. Guild Library: Marsha Haney itsmarsha@ctc.net If you see any books that you would like to check out on the web site library list, send an e-mail to Marsha to bring the book to the next meeting and you may check them out. Sew Saturday Class It is not too late to help. Join us for a fun sewing experience to do a community project. We also taught how to do paper piecing at the last Sew Saturday.
