1 Introduction The purpose of this engineering standard is to provide designers, installers and operators with the necessary technical and practical information required to enable the safe and efficient use of the new range of 33kV Single Core XLPE cables in UK Power Networks (UKPN). 2 Scope This document only covers the five main types of single core 33kV cable supplied by one of the following cable manufacturers: Cabelte (Portugal); Nexans (France, Greece, Norway and Turkey); NKT Cables (Denmark); Solidal (Portugal). The standard sizes are as follows: 300mm 2 aluminium conductor single core XLPE cable with a 82mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a MDPE outer sheath, with a conductive outer layer; 500mm 2 aluminium conductor single core XLPE cable with a 82mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a MDPE outer sheath, with a conductive outer layer; 630mm 2 aluminium conductor single core XLPE cable with a 82mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a MDPE outer sheath, with a conductive outer layer; 1000mm 2 aluminium conductor single core XLPE cable with a 82mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a MDPE outer sheath, with a conductive outer layer; 1200mm 2 aluminium conductor single core XLPE cable with a 82mm 2 aluminium wire screen and a MDPE outer sheath, with a conductive outer layer. Note: All the above are also available with a low smoke zero halogen sheath for installation in cable tunnels, basements, etc. 3 Details 3.1 Standard Drum Details The new range of 33kV cables will only be available from UK Power Networks Logistics Cable Management in the following full drum lengths: Size and Material Standard Drum Length (m) UK Power Networks Stores Code 300mm 2 aluminium 500 06140T 500mm 2 aluminium 500 06141D 630mm 2 aluminium 500 06142N 1000mm 2 aluminium 500 06143X 1200mm 2 aluminium 500 06144H UK Power Networks 2016 All rights reserved 4 of 16

4 Current Rating Table for 33kV Single Core Cables This table provides a guide to the current ratings for 33kV single XLPE core cables. All the ratings quoted are Ratings for 1 single circuit installed in trefoil, solidly bonded only and are in accordance with Engineering Recommendation P17.
