After graduating he headed west for his first engineering position with the Edmonton firm of Reid Crowthers and Partners. He later joined Qualico Developments in their land division and thereafter Block Bros as the Regional Manager for the Edmonton region. An opportunity was presented to move to the Denver office of Block Bros where he spent over 10 years in the development business. During his time in Denver Onufry also completed an MBA at the University of Colorado. Onufry joined Genstar in 2001 in the Calgary office and is currently Vice President for the Edmonton region. As of January 1, 2008 he will be Vice President of Alberta overseeing the Edmonton and Calgary offices of Genstar. Onufry assumed the position of President of UDI Alberta in April of 2007. Nicole Martel Nicole studied at the University of Alberta attaining Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Political Science. After her education, she pursued a number of different career paths with bureaucracy, business, politics and government relations. Her past roles include being a policy analyst with Alberta Municipal Affairs and the Manager of Government Relations for EPCOR. Nicole is also co-owner of a local Edmonton business. In June of last year, Nicole joined UDI Alberta as their Executive Director. She has been engaged in provincial activities such as the Land Use Framework, affordable housing initiatives and wetland policy implementation plans just to name a few. She looks forward to continuing to meet with UDI members across the province over the next year. COMMITTEE NEWS Builders/Trade Committee - The RMWB Bylaw Enforcement section have 2 bylaw officers designated for construction and development sites. The areas of concern are safety, off loading on roadway, traffic control, untarped loads, overweight loads, cleated vehicles, running equipment on sidewalks and commercial vehicle dirt tracking. They are requesting your company follow the rules, regulations and guidelines set with your development permit. They are looking for compliance and will be equipped to enforce the infractions. Bylaw Enforcement will be available to attend your sites safety meetings or answer any questions you may have by phoning Robin Taylor at RMWB. Land Developers Committee In order to assist the RMWB planning department for approving development permits please forward your project timelines to UDI-Wood Buffalo office, this will enable RMWB to schedule for the work load and be better prepared for the upcoming construction season. You may also book appointments to bring in your development permits by phoning the planning department through Dennis Peck. Government Bylaw Committee - Just recently had another offsite levy meeting and the negotiating committee is moving forward, the timeline is set with anticipation of completion in May. The Land Use Bylaw general text amendments have now been reviewed with a few minor changes. The landscaping section will be removed until all affected parties can provide input. Our Next Event will be our Annual General Meeting (AGM) March 7th Friday at 12:00 pm at the Sawridge Inn & Conference Centre. Our keynote speakers for this event will be Onufry Shinkewski (President) of UDI Alberta and Nicole Martel (Executive Director) of UDI Alberta. Please plan to attend and find out what UDI Alberta has been involved with this year and also to vote in your new executive board.
