General Infrmatin Yur brand new bentrup TC60/8 is the mst flexible kiln cntrller in the cmpact class specially designed fr mre cmplex firing curves (e.g. glass prcessing, fusing etc.). The TC60/8 cmbines many features fr cmplex firing prcesses, safe and precise kiln peratin at a reasnable price. Befre perating the TC60/8, please read and understand the manual carefully. This familiarizes yu with all functins f the TC60/8 quickly and ensures that yu can use all the capablities f yur cntrl. Security Advice Please refer t the security advice f the kiln manufacturer. Make sure that the cntrl is munted at a safe distance frm the kiln and that the cntrl is nt expsed t direct heat r radiatin when the kiln is pened whilst it is ht. Firing Curves The micrprcessr cntrller TC60/8 prvides yur kiln with a precise and reprducable cntrlling unit. The firing curse is shwn as a firing curve cnsisting f up t 9 s. An example is shwn belw. This firing curve cnsists f the fllwing sements: [ C] 810 550 (a) (b) (c) (d) (e) (f) (g) 1.0 7.0 9.0 9.10 9.30 10.30 [min] a. prgramme delay 1 hur b. heat up t 550 C in 6 hurs c. heat up t 810 C uncntrlled d. dwell 10 minutes e. uncntrlled cling t 510 C f. dwell 1 hur g. cling t 460 C in 5 hurs Each cnsists f a temperature and the time t reach this temperature. Yu nly need t enter the s required (nt all 9 s). The prgramme delay (e.g. useful t take advantage f "ff peak" electricity) is entered as 0. 11
Example Curve The firing curve shwn abve is translated fr the TC60/8 int the fllwing s: n. temperature time 0 -- 1.00 1 550 C 6.00 2 810 C SKIP* 3 810 C 0.10 4 510 C SKIP* 5 510 C 1.00 6 460 C 5.00 Entering a Firing Curve 7 End** *SKIP: This value stands fr uncntrlled (=maximum) heat up r cling. **End: This value entered instead f the temperature indicates t the cntrller the end f the prgramme. k k resp. As shwn in 3 and 5, a dwell is simply achieved by repeating the temperature f the previus (fllwed by the required dwell time). The abve firing curve is entered as fllws: Turn n the cntrller by the mains switch. After a few secnds the actual kiln temperature appears n the display (1). Select the 0 by pressing the key (4) nce. The display (1) shws the actual prgramme delay as hurs / minutes (SKIP=0.00). Use the keys (7) and (8) t change this value. k resp. Press the key (5) t enter 1 (display (2) shws "1"). The display (1) reads the actual set temperature. Use the keys (7) and (8) t adjust t the required value f 550 C. Press the key (5) again t enter the value f 6.00 hurs with the keys (7) and (8). If yu hld the key (7) r (8) pressed, the displayed value will run thrugh autmatically. 12
Check the decimal pint in the middle f the display (1) t indentify whether the TC60/8 shws a temperature r a time (with decimal pint) Prceed in the same way t enter the temperature and time values fr all s. The sequence f entering the values can be any; hwever, t step t the next, the TC60/8 requires the previus t be entered. This avid unintended skipping f a. The value SKIP fr uncntrlled heating / cling is entered as a time by hlding the key (7) pressed. SKIP is shwn as depicted n the left. The value End (indicates t the cntrller the end f the firing) is adjusted by hlding the key (7) pressed while entering a temperature. If yu want t alter a value again r if yu have skipped unintentinally a, yu can select it at any time by using the keys (4) r (5) resp. start stp T start the firing, press the key (6). The display (1) shws frm nw n always the kiln temperature. During a prgramme delay, the display (1) shws the remaining time until the firing starts. The display (2) reads the current f the firing curve. The flashing decimal pint in the right hand crner indicates prgramme running. At successful cmpletin the display reads "E" fr "End". Checking the Prgramme Values T check r change the values f a prgramme when the firing has already been started, prceed as fllws: Press the key (4) r (5), the firing is interrupted autmatically (decimal pint stps flashing). Nw, yu can step thrugh the s using the key (4) and (5) as described befre. T change a value, use keys (7) and (8). T cntinue the firing with the new values press key (6) again. 13
Displaying Values during a Firing During a firing there are tw interesting values that can be displayed withut interrupting the firing: actual setpint: press the key (8) and the cntrller shws the setpint temperature fr 3 secnds (the display shws a decimal pint in the left crner). time remaining in actual : press the key (7). The time remaining in the actual is displayed fr 3 secnds. In ramps, the actual time might differ e.g. if the kiln is t slw. Bth these values can nly be called up during a running prgramme. Direct Cntrl (ca. 3 secnds) In certain applicatins it is very helpful t take direct cntrl f the firing prcess (e.g. n glass fusing). The TC60/8 prvides the fllwing features: Immediate skipping t next : Disregarding the present temperature and time yu require t skip immediately t the next. Hld the key (8) pressed fr 3 secnds, the TC60/8 enters the next immediately. (ca. 3 secnds) Hld a : Yu require t stp the time in a dwell r the remain at the present temperature in a ramp. Hld the key (7) pressed an "h" is flashing n the display cnfirms the TC60/8 in hld status. Attentin: The TC60/8 remains in hld until it is released in the same way (hld key (7) until the "h" disappears). Reactin n Pwer Breakdwn Fr security reasns the firing will be interrupted if a pwer breakdwn ccurs. Fr special applicatins a versin with pwer breakdwn restart feature is available n request. Maximum Adjustable Values prgramme delay...0.00 t 10.00 hurs temperatures...20 C t 1320 C* ramp / dwell times...0.00 t 10.00 hurs *this value varies depending n the kiln 14
Errr Messages The integrated micrprcessr inside yur TC60/8 perfrms cntinus checking f the firing prcess. In case f any malfunctin the display will shw an errr message pinting t the prblem. Fllwing is a descriptin f the pssible errr messages: The kiln desn t fllw the required temperature increase. This errr message pints clearly t a kiln prblem. Check carefully the cause befre using the kiln again t avid further damage! Ask yur dealer fr assistance. 15
Errr detected during pwer-up self check On every pwer-up the cntrller perfrms a self check. If an errr is detected the cntrller shws F8 (ROM errr) r F9 (hardware errr). Please cntact yur lcal dealer. Setting the Parameters f the TC60/8 This infrmatin describes hw t adapt the TC60/8 t the kiln. Usually, this is dne by the kiln manufacturer. Yu can call up the parameters t view nly; t change them, yu need a special authrizatin cde which is available frm us n request. T get int the parameter menu press the key start/stp and hld it pressed fr abut 4 secnds. Nw, the display reads the first cnfigurable value and yu can step thrugh the list by pressing the key (5). cde usage value range unit 0 type f thermcuple S-R-K-J 0-3 - 1 max. adjustable temperature 20-1600 C 2 prprtinal band 0.0-99.9 % 3 integral time 10-8000 s 4 derivative time 0-999 s 5 cyclus time pwer relay 1-100 s 6 units fr temperatures C - F 0-1 - 7 lck errr message F1 (heat up check) 0-1 - 16
