OTHER SUPPLIES REQUIRED: Quilt batting Backing fabric 4 yds 2034-1 recommended All Purpose Thread Eight copies of template provided printed at 100% no scaling INTRODUCTION: Read through all of the instructions before beginning your quilt. Basic knowledge of machine piecing, paper piecing, and quilting suggested. When printing the templates, be sure your templates printed at 100% by measuring the 1 box on the template page. Happy sewing! INSTRUCTIONS: 1/4 seam allowance 1. Following the diagram below make each of the flying geese units required for the quilt. Refer to the main diagram to note each flying geese unit. Each unit is made from one of the triangles cut from the 5 1/4 squares, and two of the triangles cut from the 2 7/8 squares of background fabric. Trim excess seam allowance points after pressing the unit. It should measure 2 1/2 after pressing. 2 1/2 square 2 1/2 square
completed tail block 2 3 1 2. Using the included paper piecing template, make each of the tail blocks required for the quilt. Use the triangles made from the four 6 squares for background section A. Use the triangles made from the four 4 squares for background section B. Begin with the center scrap of colorful print fabric and sew the seam with background fabric section B. Press open. Then sew the seam with the center scrap and background fabric section A. Press. Trim along the outside cutting line on the paper piece. Repeat to make each of the blocks. Next, sew pairs of paper pieced blocks together to make each tail unit as shown. 3. Tear paper off of the back of each tail unit. 4. You will need two different 4 7/8 squares to make two half square triangles (HST). Follow steps 5-7 to make two of each of the HST s shown below. 5. Mark a line on the wrong side of one of the lighter fabrics in each pair, from corner to corner.
6. Place the marked fabric right sides together with its mate and sew two seam lines, each 1/4 away from the center marked line. sew two stitching lines then cut along red line 7. Cut along the marked line, press seams open and trim excess seam allowance at the corners where the excess hangs over the edge of the square. HSTs should measure 4 1/2 square at this point. 8. Now that your blocks are prepared you can assemble each section of the quilt. Follow the guide here to piece each section. Refer to the diagram on the next page for piece size layout, and the next step in piecing the sections.

9. Now that the rows are pieced, sew them together to complete the quilt top. 10. Quilt and bind as desired.
