Takachsin Handbook Name: Troop Number: Ordeal: Year inducted Brotherhood: Year sealed membership Vigil: Year honored Date of Founder s Award Date of Eagle Scout 2017 Printing 1

Foreword Our Takachsin is a unique Lodge based recognition program which allows us to promote our lodge to all who are involved in Scouting. We expect our brothers on the Ceremonies Team, Executive Committee, Chapter Chiefs, Leaders and Scouts to wear their Takachsin with pride. The Takachsin was created to strengthen our Lodge, and to have an impact on our summer camp program. We created this program to help recognize the individual tasks and roles of ceremony teams, and the brothers behind the scenes. This program enhanced our ceremonies and helped us to create new positions for our members to participate in as well as providing special revenue for the Lodge and, hence, to our camps. The Takachsin totem in itself has a special and unique meaning for our lodge. This program was adopted from programs utilized by our legacy lodges and designed to reflect their legacy and honor their totems. The Ordeal totem has one W to represent the first point of the order, and that Ordeal members are just beginning on their journey. The Brotherhood totem has two W s and represents that a member has decided to cheerfully commit to the Brotherhood and seal their membership. The third Takachsin bares three W s and represents that a member has been honored with the Vigil Honor for many years of leadership and service to our order. The Takachsin is a special symbol with specific beads supporting specific tasks, honors, and awards in our Lodge. 2

Takachsin Traditions/ Expectations The Takachsin may be worn by ALL BROTHERS of our Lodge. The Takachsin may be worn at any time and at any Scout function, in or out of uniform. The Takachsin totem and associated beads are under the sole ownership of the Nataepu Shohpe Lodge.
