Slope Floor Measurement Methods Many chair installations are on sloped floors. Hussey Seating uses five different feet for floor mount chairs based on the degree of slope. The slope of the floor is a critical element to ensure a successful installation. There are two methods to measure this factor. Hussey Seating recommends the use of a SmartLevel. SmartLevel: This is a level which can be placed directly on the floor and produce a digital readout of the degree of slope. (These can be purchased at a local hardware store.) The traditional method of measuring the floor slope requires the use of a standard level and tape measure. Using the level, bring it to a level position. Measure the dimension from the floor to the outward end, bottom side of the level. You must also provide the length of the level you are using. (Example: using a 24" level with a dimension of 3" from the floor to the level is 3" in 24".) It is critical that a measurement be taken at each break in the floor. Therefore a 3" rise over a 24" run = 1 1/2" slope per foot. There are some limitations to the slope for Hussey chairs. The maximum slope is 1 1/2" in 12". Additionally, there are some restrictions placed by the American Disabilities Act. The maximum floor slope is 1" in 12". The maximum length of a sloped floor cannot exceed 30 after which there must be a level run of 5.

Chair Ordering Instructions CHAIR ORDERING: The accompanying chart has been designed to assist in determining the quantity and sizes of chairs to order and the quantity and type of standards to order. The procedures used with this chart are dependent on the accuracy of the field check and the use of the Chair Size Chart. PROCEDURES: 1. Focus on one section of seating at a time. If it is a straight section, measure the first and last rows to determine if the dimension changes. (If it is a tapered section, it is critical to measure each row to calculate the quantities.) 2. Log on the chart which section you are measuring and the number of rows. Using the Chair Size Chart find the corresponding dimension of the row length and identify the quantity and sizes of the chairs. Enter this data on the chart. 4. To determine the quantity of intermediate standards for each row, use the number of chairs per row minus one. Add one left end standard per row and one right end standard per row (unless special situation). Enter these quantities on the chart. 5. Total the number of left, intermediate and right standards per section and enter on the chart. 6. Repeat these steps for each section of seating. 3. Calculate the total quantity by size for the entire section and enter on chart.

Chair Sizing Chart Instructions Chair Sizing: This chart assists in determining the chair sizes needed in a seating arrangement. The dimension for end spaces has been factored into these calculations. However, the following chart will provide these dimensions. CHAIR SERIES Quattro Floor Mount Quattro Riser Mount END DIMENSION 2" [51mm] 3" [76mm] To use the Chair Size Chart, follow these procedures: 1. Determine the space available for each row. The chart automatically calculates a 2" spacing at each end of the row for floor mounted chairs. If you require 3" end spacing for riser mounted chairs, you must factor in the difference. NOTE: Reference applicable building code to determine the maximum number of seats allowed in a row. 2. Read down the column marked feet and then across the top marked inches and find the appropriate dimension. 3. Select the chair sizes from the suggested combinations. 4. Staggered seating may be achieved by using varying chair size combinations in alternate rows.

Field Check The success of a job is often a direct result of the care taken during a field check. The profitability, ease of installation, and lack of surprises are frequently attributed to the detail and accuracy of the field dimensions. We have provided a checklist of the critical dimensions and measurements and provided a drawing for your reference. Products for Construction & Expansion Joints Construction and Expansion Joints: The size and placement of Construction and Expansion Joints are critical components to the design and cost of a seating installation. The following descriptions of these joints are taken from The Architectural Graphics Standard. Expansion (Isolation) Joints: These allow movement between the concrete slabs and fixed parts of the building such as columns or walls. These types of joints cannot be spanned with chairs mounted to plates, therefore the rows must be broken. Construction Joints: These joints provide stopping places during the floor construction. These types of joints can be spanned with chairs mounted to plates, resulting in a continuous row of chairs. These elements must be taken into consideration in order to have a successful seating layout. Each of these joints has a significant impact on the particular cost and design for installation. Horizontal Construction Joints: These joints are in the concrete riser and are a concern with riser mount chairs. The concrete is usually pre-cast (but not always). The location of the joint or the height of the riser from the deck to the joint, are the critical dimensions. When working on a job with this type of joint, the riser height and the location of rebar, have cost implications. Special anchors may be required. Hussey Seating recommends locating all horizontal joints at the very bottom of the riser. This typically offers the best location to avoid the added cost of offset plates. Hussey Seating uses an offset plate to anchor the chairs without altering the seating plan. The plate offsets the anchors enough to clear the joint. Typically if one chair is offset, all chairs in that row will be offset. Vertical Construction Joints: There are several options available to accommodate joints that span a deck of seating. The most cost effective method is with a carrier plate. Usually only one chair is affected by this anchoring method. This permits movement of the building without damaging the chairs.

Corner Angles Corner angles present difficult challenges to architects and owners who want to have continuous rows of chairs, wrapping around the corners. Angles up to 3 require no special mounting requirements. Angles between 3 and 15 can be accommodated with plates and or shims, depending on specific scenario. Our solution to these scenarios will allow chairs to transition smoothly around shallow angle corners providing a more pleasing seating configuration. All corners 18 and greater will require the row of chairs to be split at or near the joint. Hussey Seating offers two solutions for corner angles greater then 18. Option one would be to split the row at the corner joint. When this option is utilized, a large enough gap must be created to accommodate the patron s legs. The second option would be to mount an individual chair directly in the corner and split the row on either side. This option typically minimizes the corner gap and provides a better seating solution.

Floor and Riser Design Requirements/Guidelines GENERAL DESIGN NOTES: All floor, slabs and risers constructed of concrete (pre-cast or poured) must meet the following criteria: Floor / Slab must be 4"(10) thick with the top 2"(5cm) clear of any obstructions. (Rebar, meshing, etc.) Riser must be 4½" (11cm) thick minimum with the first 2½" (6cm) along the face clear of any obstructions. (Rebar, meshing, etc.) All concrete must have a minimum strength of 3,000 psi or 20,684 Mpa for proper anchor attachment. Light weight concrete must have a minimum strength of 5,000 psi or 34,475 Mpa. All anchors are supplied by unless otherwise noted. If anchors are to be supplied by someone other than, notification must be made during the submittal process. Hardware Requirements: Concrete Floors: 1/4-20 UNC X 3" expansion anchors with lock washers and flat washers per Hussey Specification. (2 required per foot) Concrete Riser: 3/8-16 UNC X 3½" expansion anchor with lock washers and flat washers per Hussey Specification. (2 required per foot) All floors constructed of wood must be 1½" (3cm) thick minimum. All floor, treads, or risers constructed of steel must meet the following criteria: Minimum steel thickness of 1/4" (6.4mm) Maximum steel thickness of 3/8" (9.5mm) Steel must have minimum tensile strength of 36,000 psi

Sightline Formula Principle of Visibility Line of Clear View for Spectator on Tiered Seating: Angle A: Angle of Perfect visibility; looking over all heads. Angle B: Angle of Good visibility; shifting position to look between heads on the row immediately in front of the spectator and over all heads. Angle C: Angle of Fair visibility; shifting position to look between the heads of two rows immediately in front of the spectators and over all other heads. Definition: The lower angle of angle C is approximately 5" (13) above the eyes of the spectators in the third row in front of the spectators. This angle C is called the angle of clear view. The tangent of the angle of clear view = 3R- 5"[13cm] / 3D, where R is the rise and D is the depth per row (row spacing). Head Level from the Floor 4'1" (124) Eye Level from the Floor 3'8" (112) Application: The final analysis being the perpendicular dimension from the court line or the line of play to where the angle of clear view intersects (focal point) should be as small as possible.

Principle of Visibility Angle B is commonly used in determining floor slope for auditorium, performing arts or theatre type seating configurations. When angle B profile is used in conjunction with staggered seating arrangement (chair staggered or alternated in arrangements of sizes opposite every other row) it allows unobstructed view of spectators to a determined focal point at the screen or stage. The final analysis is to have all sight lines intersect at the desired focal point. Angle C is most commonly used in determining riser or stepped applications for gymnasiums, arena or stadium type seating configurations. When angle B profile is used (generally associated with an aligned seating arrangement) it allows for unobstructed view of spectators to a determined focal point at court line or line of play. The final analysis is to have all the critical sightlines intersect the focal point or line of play at generally a maximum elevation of 4' (122). TM

Sightline Dimensions & Calculations 4'1" (124) = Top of head above seat (chair seating) 3'8" (112) = Eye level above deck (chair seating) Step 1: Solve for angle C, angle of clear view. Tan Angle C = (3 x Rise) - 5" (13cm) / 3 x Tread

Sightline Dimensions & Calculations Step 2: Solve for Distance A Using Trig function: Tangent = Opposite/Adjacent Tangent of Angle C = Distance D / Distance A Distance A = Distance D / Tan Angle A Step 3: Solve for Distance B Distance B = Distance A - Distance C Step 4: Solve for Distance E Using Trig function: Tangent = Opposite / Adjacent Tangent of Angle C = Distance E / Distance B Distance E = Tangent of Angle C x Distance B
