Technical Data Sheet. Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat 480 Blending system for two-stage colours To achieve a perfect colour transition in the blending area or from repair to adjacent areas, e.g. wing / door. For professional use only! VR Technical Data Sheet No. EN / 480.1new / 02 An Axalta Coating Systems Brand 1 / 11.05.2015
Substrate. Suitable substrates: Permasolid HS surfacers / HS Vario Primer Surfacer 5340 Intact old finish In the case of plastic substrates: Priomat Elastic Primer 3304 + Permasolid HS surfacer (elastified) Permacron 1:1 Elastic Primer Surfacer 3300 See Special notes! Substrate pretreatment: Thoroughly clean original or old finish and Permasolid surfacer with Permahyd Silicone Remover 7080 or, if heavily soiled, first with Permaloid Silicone Remover 7010. 1. Preparation: Dry sand the repair area with P500-600 grade or wet with waterproof P800-1000 grade. The adjacent area / the car part around the repair area must be thoroughly sanded extensively with P1000-3000 grade. Any beads, edges or handle recesses are to be sanded with a sanding pad beforehand. 2. Cleaning Thoroughly clean the whole surface with Permahyd Silicone Remover 7080 to remove any dust, paint residue from sanding or any other impurities. Wipe away any surplus silicone remover with a lint-free cloth, taking care to avoid streaks. Allow the moisture on substrates which have been wet sanded or cleaned to evaporate completely. When using a tack cloth, only use the latest generation of tack cloth with antistatic properties as this leaves no chemical or adhesive residue on the surface. E.g. Spies Hecker Tack Cloth, article No. D13295540 2 / 11.05.2015
Special notes: Sanded through spots must be isolated with Priomat 1K Wash Primer 4085. Sanded through spots may not be larger than Ø 5.0 cm. Areas which have been sanded down to bare metal must be coated with Priomat Wash Primer 4075 or Priomat 1K Wash Primer 4085 before Permasolid HS surfacer can be applied. Refinish process. 1. Blending into adjacent parts e.g. new wing, colour matching towards the door: For substrate pretreatment, please refer to page 2: 1. Preparation and 2. Cleaning Begin by applying 1-2 full coats of Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* to the blending area. Ensure that the blending area is large enough. Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* Blending the base coat: Then, apply the first light coat of base coat from the blending area into the wet Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051*. Step 1 Step 1 * Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1051 is suitable for low relative air humidity (< 30%) and/or temperatures above 30 C. 3 / 11.05.2015
Step 2 Then, immediately apply another light coat without flash-off time. Ensure to start the coat within the previous one and extend it to the repair area to achieve an even effect formation. Step 2 Step 1 Step 3 After blending, apply 1.5 coats (standard process) to the transition area and the remaining area of the new part. Step 3 Step 2 After flash-off, Permasolid HS clear coat is applied to the entire repair area. 4 / 11.05.2015
2. Blending into adjacent parts e.g. new wing, colour matching towards the door: Alternative blending method for solid colours and dark effect colours For substrate pretreatment, please refer to page 2: 1. Preparation and 2. Cleaning Begin by applying 1-2 full coats of Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* to the blending area. Ensure that the blending area is large enough. Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* Then, apply the first coat of base coat to the blending area starting from the new part to the edge of the wet Permahyd Blend-in Additive. Immediately continue with the effect / finish coat, which is sprayed with increased distance to the object into the wet Permahyd Blend-in Additive and towards the new part. base coat Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* * Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1051 is suitable for low relative air humidity (< 30%) and/or temperatures above 30 C. 5 / 11.05.2015
After blending, apply 1.5 coats to the remaining area (standard application). base coat After flash-off, Permasolid HS clear coat is applied to the entire repair area. Special note on application: We recommend that all coats, starting with the first coat, are applied from the furthest blending area to the repair area and that all subsequent coats remain within the previous coat to achieve an even effect formation. Special notes on the refinish process: 1. 2. For further information, please refer to the Technical Data Sheet 480.0. Material flow / spray gun trigger are fully open during Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat 480 application. 3. Effect coat spray pressure may vary between 1.5 and 2.0 bar depending on the size of the object. 3. Blending smallest damages, e.g. Speed Repair: For substrate pretreatment, please refer to page 2: 1. Preparation and 2. Cleaning Note: Keep the repair / surfacer area as small as possible. Option a) The ready-to-spray base coat is used for most of the colours. Option b) For colours with a very high share of metallic tints, we recommend: Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat 480 mixed 1:1 with Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1050 / 1051* + 10% Permahyd Flop Control WT 386 (Permahyd WT Additive 6050 / 6052 is not needed). Please use the Permahyd Hi-TEC speed repair mixing stick. * Permahyd Blend-in Additive 1051 is suitable for low relative air humidity (< 30%) and/or temperatures above 30 C. 6 / 11.05.2015
Depending on the colour and opacity, this mixture is applied in 3-5 light coats with reduced spray pressure (0.8-1.5 bar) to the repair spot / fade-out. Extend the area of application with each coat and allow each coat to become matt. Flash-off can be accelerated by blowing off. After the respective final flash-off time, a clear coat can be applied. Special notes: Material flow / spray gun trigger are fully open during Permahyd Hi-TEC Base Coat 480 application. We recommend the use of stationary air diffusers or force drying, e.g. low baking, for efficient flash-off and drying processes. Product application: Spraying equipment must be suitable for applying waterborne products; manufacturers' instructions must be followed. See manufacturer s instructions! For further details, see System Data Sheet No. 905.1. The Permahyd Hi-TEC mixing colours 480 can be used only as part of a colour formula. If any of the mixing colours is applied on its own, the mixing colour may react differently to that which is described / specified in this Technical Data Sheet. Cleaning of tools: Rinse with Permahyd Demineralised Water 6000 before and after use. Then wash out with Permaloid Washing Thinner 7020/7989. For more detailed information, see System Data Sheet No. 905.0! Waste disposal: Collect liquid waterborne waste separately from conventional liquid waste. If the two are mixed, it may be impossible to dispose of the mixture, or at best difficult, and therefore expensive. For further details, see System Data Sheet No. 905.2. Note on safety: This product is classified according to regulation (EC) 1272/2008 (CLP). Please consult the Safety Data Sheet. It is strongly recommended to use appropriate personal protection equipment during application. Health and safety: A face mask must be worn when applying waterborne products. 7 / 11.05.2015
