NEC MD Series Perfect Images for Life Critical Diagnostic Imaging Modern medical technologies enables complex examinations. But in the end, it is the radiologist who is responsible for fast and accurate diagnostic findings. To support these findings, the NEC MD Series is setting new standards in high class diagnostic imaging. Backed by years of experience in the development of TFT displays for professional use, combined with intensive research done in the medical market. X-LIGHT - A BACKLIGHT SYSTEM FOR SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY (1) X-Light has crucial influence on diagnostic accuracy. The patented X-Light backlight has the unique ability to control and adjust the luminance and white colour tint via an integrated fast-feedback backlight sensor, which not only measures, but also permanently controls and re-aligns these settings to maintain the factory calibration. An NEC exclusive feature that further improves stable and reliable imaging, for the life of the product. In addition, X-Light helps to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership as it significantly reduces the need for frequent calibration or conformance tests. FACTORY CALIBRATION Each NEC MD Series display is calibrated in luminance and to a desired colour tint clear base or blue base simulating the preferred X-ray film colour. Radiologists who are used to reporting from a consistently coloured clear or blue film, will find the same colour life-time consistency from NEC MD Series displays. In addition, a DICOM compliant gamma correction is calibrated and uploaded into the Look-up Table of the individual display. AUTOMATIC LIFE-TIME EXPECTANCY COUNTER Managing the use of each MD Series display within your hos pital or department can be essential in gaining the maximum from your investment. X-Light s accurate life time expectancy calculator enables you to control the ageing of each display in the field, by allowing you to make informed changes to use or configuration. CONSTANT WHITE TINT In all conventional LCD backlights, a non proportional degrada tion of red, green and blue phosphors may cause a natural shift of the backlight to yellow. X-Light technology alleviates this colour shift by keeping the white colour constant, while white light intensity remains the same the basis for excellent diagnostic quality. BRIGHTNESS UNIFORMITY Edge-lighting technologies ensure unrivalled brightness uniformity not just in the centre of the display but also at the edges, again enabling accurate diagnosis at all points of the image. DISPLAY MATCHING / REDUCED DOWNTIME The X-Light backlight allows display matching in the field, reducing downtime and servicing costs. Single displays rather than matched pairs can be swapped out if one is defective. The reason behind: all X-Light equipped displays are set for the same tint during manufacture. Whether matching the white colour tint of two displays or multiple displays, the capability is virtually limitless. Matched white tint ensures that all displays within a hospital show a consistent image, imperative to consistent accurate diagnosis, especially when comparing images in a dual or multiple display configuration. STAND-ALONE CALIBRATION ALGORITHM Both brightness and white tint matching between displays can take place without the need of a computer, thus further reducing reporting downtime. NEC s unique built-in, stand alone algorithm accomodates matching of multiple screens prior to DICOM calibration and subsequent quality control checks. PROFESSIONALLY DESIGNED Specifically designed for use in multi-display diagnostic reporting environments, NEC MD display products feature ultra-slim bezels, devoid of buttons and distracting LED lights. NEC MD greyscale and 90 Series colour displays in a typical RIS/PACS configuration are combined to give an over all tailored design look. With a contrast ratio of 700:1 (600:1 for MD205MG) and high calibrated luminance of 400 cd/m2, NEC MD display systems can be used in dimmed reading rooms as well as in ambient light environments. DICOM PART 14 COMPLIANCE The NEC MD Series provides support for improved diagnostic accuracy with simultaneous reproduction of up to 1024 from a palette of 3061 possible greyscales.the programmable 10-bit gamma correction ensures precise and smooth grey-scale tuning and better representation of just noticeable differences (JNDs).Up to 1024 greyscales can be depicted at the same time for filmless diagnosis. Fast, internal switching of the related Look-up Tables (LUTs) supports the display s usage for softcopy reading of images from different medical modalities. NEC s GammaCompMD quality assurance software maintains the displays s conformance to DICOM Part 14 for the usable life of the product. SA SUPERFINE TFT GLASS Anti-Glare and low reflection NEC s SA SuperFine TFT glass utilises round resin beads instead of inconsistently shaped silica gel within the glass substrates for advanced glare reduction. Additionally, a low reflection overcoat is applied on top of the bead layer, which yields a low, uniform reflection over the surface of the glass. This process also provides for a truer representation of black and higher contrast ratio. The innovative SA SuperFine TFT glass with 3 or 5 Mega-pixel resolution delivers a brilliant picture with wide viewing angle providing the best conditions for medical teams performing a consultation in front of the display. HIGH-SPEED IMAGE PROCESSING NEC MD display systems are available with a variety of high performance display controllers. The dual head 8-bit display controllers produce 256 simultaneous shades of grey, dual head or triple head 10-bit display controllers 1024 simultaneous shades of grey out of a palette of 1024. All display controllers are compatible with Windows 2000 and Windows XP. Some specific configurations also support Linux. FLEXIBLE APPLICATION The use of NEC MD Series diagnostic displays is not limited to radiology reporting rooms where lighting conditions are optimised. NEC MD Series displays high brightness makes them suitable for use in environments such as A&W, clinics, care and dependency units and operating theatres. Standard VESA mounting points enable trouble-free deployment to walls, ceilings, desks or to mobile carts in both landscape or portrait viewing orientations. All NEC MD Series display systems comply with the strictest medical safety and EMC emission standards, including EN 60601-1 for medical device class 1 and according to European Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC. In hospital wide deployment of PACS, not all departments can justify the high costs of diagnostic quality displays, but do not want to risk deploying standard colour LCD displays and compromise patient care. colour displays for diagnostic review and PACS referral used in conjunction with NEC s GammaCompMD software, offers the quality assurance required in the medical fields of CT, MRI, NM/PET and Cardiology review. DIGITAL UNIFORMITY CONTROL FOR INCREASED UNIFORMITY White Luminance Uniformity without Digital Uniformity Control White Luminance Uniformity with max. Digital Uniformity Control Dicom-Ready Colour Review Displays Based on NEC Display Solutions own signal processing circuitry, Digital Uniformity Control reduces screen uniformity errors to almost unnoticeable levels. A digital correction factor is applied to each pixel on the screen to compensate for differences of both colour and luminance. Gamma adjust Gamma adjust EXACT DICOM CURVE CALIBRATION 90 Series displays incorporate a 12-bit Look-up Table that provides a greyscale palette of 4096 tones from which 256 can be displayed simultaneously. The internally programmed DICOM GSDF curve optimises the display to human visual performance in compliance with DICOM Part 14 standard, drastically improving the speed and accuracy at which images can be interpreted. In addition, a DICOM compliant gamma correction is calibrated and uploaded in the 12-bit Look-up Table of the individual display. In contrast to conventional 8-bit or 10-bit Look-up Tables, 90 Series displays with 12-bit can reproduce extreme smooth graduations without loosing any of the original 16,77 million displayable colours. two steps disappear FACTORY MEASUREMENT AND CALIBRATION No compromises from the very beginning: Each display is individually characterised during production. A fully automated system measures hundreds of points across the screen at different grey levels. These measurements are used to build a three dimensional correction matrix, stored inside the Three 12-bit Look-up Tables avoid loss of greyscale gradation. The result: Better reproduction of dark portions of a diagnotic image. display and used to compensate for the screen uniformity. Optimised for display of greyscale images from a range of modalities, 90 Series colour displays can equally be used for standard viewing of HIS/RIS or 3D colour applications. DICOM PRE-SETS AT HIGH BRIGHTNESS 90 Series displays have a number of pre-sets installed at the factory, such as srgb, DICOM, calibrated and custom modes. All colour displays in conjunction with NEC GammaCompMD software can exhibit two DICOM modes, those of Clear-based and Blue-based film simulating the preferred X-ray film colour. IN-FIELD MATCHING FOR CONSISTENT IMAGE COMPARISON Multiple 90 Series displays can be matched for both brightness and white colour tint prior to DICOM calibration and subsequent quality control checks. Where images need to be compared 90 Series displays offer identical viewing conditions. Upgrading from single to dual or multiple display installations can now be achieved without compromising image consistency. Blue Base Clear Base can exhibit both clear based and blue based Dicom modes. Simple rotation from landscape to portrait orientation.
