Introduction to HP Z3100 HP Z3100 is a self-calibrating industrial printer with an elegant design. Easy to install, it provides a high-quality print, handling even the subtle differences between the color tones. This manual contains the detailed information concerning unpacking, mounting, connecting and testing the printer. Handle with care. At least two people are required to lift or move the printer. DO NOT LIFT OR MOVE IT ALONE. Keep the printer away from places with a rapidly changing temperature. Do not spill liquid on the printer. The printer should be placed on a flat surface. The overall weight: 220 pounds (100 kg). Color: black and dark grey. Installation Mounting the Printer To use the printer you should place it on a special stand and attach the legs and the rear tray to it. To assemble the printer stand: 1 Place the cardboard triangles on the floor. 2 Place the cross brace on the cardboard triangles. 3 Attach the legs to the basement and then to the cross brace using the screwdriver and the screws. The printer stand is now ready to use. 4 Lift the printer. Warning: At least two people are required to lift the printer. Do not lift it alone! 5 Place the printer on the stand. 6 Attach the printer to the stand using 2 screws in each leg. 7 Attach the rear tray to the legs of the printer. Inserting the Print Cartridges To be able to perform the printing, all the print cartridges should be inserted to their places. To insert the print cartridges: 1 Remove the plastic cover. 2 Open the window. 3 Move the carriage stopper towards the front of the printer, then up and out. 4 Push up the back of tray until its closed position 5 P a g e
Installation Connecting the Power To operate the printer, you should make sure it is connected to a power supply. 1 Insert the power cord. 2 Switch on the power. The message Initializing Please wait appears on the printer screen. Testing the Printer To make sure the printer works properly, a test print needs to be performed. It involves the preparation, the calibrating and the profiling of the printer. Getting ready for printing 1 Insert the cartridge blocks (gloss enhancer, grey, blue, green, magenta, yellow, light magenta, light cyan, black * 2, light grey and red) and close the cartridge section cover. The message Ink system setup in progress appears on the printer screen. 2 Install the print heads: remove the orange piece and insert them into the printer. Checking print heads message appears on the printer screen. Warning: do not touch the contacts! 3 Install the printer software on the computer. For creating an ICC profile, see the Z3100 Software Installation Manual 4 Assemble the paper roll by pushing the removable stop towards the roll as far as it will go. 5 Insert the paper roll into the printer, it performs automatic scanning. Loading roll message appears on the printer screen and the alignment page is being printed automatically. 6 P a g e
Installation 6 Connect the USB and Run the Setup Assistant on your computer to find the printer. Calibrating the printer 7 Press Enter to continue, the calibration page is being printed. 8 Press OK to continue. A countdown timer tells you how much longer is left until the process finishes. Warning: the ink may not be dry at the end of the calibration process. Leave the print overnight to make sure the ink is dry. Profiling the printer 1 Create an ICC profile using the HP Z3100. 1 2 Open a picture you would like to print. The picture opens in the picture viewer. 3 Click Print in the picture viewer. 4 Select Z3100 in the Printer field. 5 Click Print.
