South Dublin Libraries celebrates The Year of Craft 2011 with a programme of events at The County Library, Tallaght. All classes and events are free of charge and materials will be provided at each class. Booking is essential as places are limited. February Learn to Crochet Friday 18th 10.00am 12 noon A beginner s class teaching you how to crochet. All needles and material provided Learn to Knit with your child/grandchild Wednesday 23rd 4.00pm 6.00pm Learn to knit with your child/grandchild, including finger knitting. All needles and Learn to Knit Friday 25th 10.00am 12 noon A beginner s class teaching the basics of knitting. All needles and March Learn to Sew 1 Friday 18th 10.00am 12 noon A beginner s class teaching you how to sew using different materials and fabrics including fleece. All Learn to Sew 2 Friday 25th 10.00am 12 noon More sewing techniques: Make your own pin cushion. All materials provided Children s event (8-12yrs) Fun with FIMO clay Wednesday 30th 4.00 5.00pm Make colourful necklaces/earrings/buttons with Fimo clay. All materials are provided. Please wear an old t-shirt. April Patchwork Craft 1 Friday 8th 10.00am 12 noon Make a fabulous patchwork door stop with different fabrics. All Patchwork Craft 2 Friday 29th 10.00am 12 noon Make a beautiful patchwork heart filled with lavender. All materials provided Quilt Exhibition 4th 29th April A fantastic exhibition of quilts from the Irish Patchwork Society. The exhibition includes a mixture of wall hangings, children s quilts and works by beginners and advanced quilters. The exhibition will be displayed along the walkway of the County Library.
May Jewellery Making for beginners Friday 13th 10.30am 12 noon Learn how to create beautiful jewellery with little or no previous experience. You will create and keep a bracelet and necklace using threading and crimping techniques. You will be provided with a selection of beads and material and the class will be taught by an experienced teacher from Beads & Bling! Customise your clothes with Alexa Wednesday 18th 7.00pm 8.30pm The Secret Seamstress Demonstrations in Customisation Techniques Spend an evening with Alexa owner of the A. Rubanesque based in Powerscourt Townhouse. Reinvent some of your favourite wardrobe pieces with an expert. Alexa will give a talk including handy little secrets to breath new life into tired pieces whilst teaching specialist techniques to recreate couture embellishments by yourself Bring an item of clothing with you on the night. Light refreshments will be served. Felt making for Beginners Friday 27th 10.00am 12 noon An introduction to the beautiful craft of felt making. This class will be taught by a member of Felt Makers Ireland and all participants will make 3D flowers which can be worn as broaches and other ornaments. All materials provided. September Card Making Friday 16th 10.00am 12 noon Make your own personalised wedding and gift cards with fabric, beads and all things nice! All Paper Crafting Friday 23rd 10.00am 12 noon Make a memory book to celebrate a special occasion or year using different materials and paper craft techniques. They are fabulous as personalised gifts. All Make your own delicious Autumn & Winter soups Friday 30th 10.00am 12 noon Trim your purse and your waistline with a demonstration of how to make your own delicious Autumn & Winter soups. Taster session included. Join Artist Lian Callaghan weaving on a Giant Loom in the County Library Join Artist Lian Callaghan weaving on a Giant Loom in the County Library. This workshop is a free event and will run over the course of a few days. We would like to invite, individuals, families and schools and community groups to reintroduce the craft of weaving in a relaxed, fun environment.

Margaret also teaches at the Grafton Academy of Dress Designing and has many years experience with dress making. All Exhibition 24th October 12th November The Irish Country Women s Association 1910-2010: A Centenary Celebration. The County Library Tallaght is proud to display this magnificent exhibition marking the centenary celebration of ICA, which was formerly housed in Collins Barracks. November Make a Patchwork Christmas Tree Friday 11th 10.00am 12 noon An early start to the festive season! Make a beautiful patchwork Christmas tree. Helen will also show you how to make handmade Christmas cards. All Childrens event (8-12yrs) Weave a Mysterious Mexican Eye Wednesday 16th 4.00pm 5.00pm Learn the magic of weaving. Weave a mystical Mexican eye on wood using all the colours of the rainbow. All Make a Christmas Patchwork Ball Friday 25th 10.00am 12.00 Decorate your tree with beautiful patchwork balls or give them as a personalised present. All December Christmas Flower Arranging Friday 2nd 10.00am 12 noon Make your own flower arrangement with florist Brenda Joyce. All Christmas Cooking: mmm...something smells good Friday 9th 10.00am 12 noon A demonstration of delicious Christmas favourites including homemade stuffing, Christmas pudding and honey glazed ham. Join Artist Lian Callaghan weaving on a Giant Loom in the County Library Artist Lian Callaghan trained as a sculptor and now works with living willow. Lian originally created the Giant Loom for the Eco Village Arts Festival four years ago and has since created beautifully woven pieces with community groups. The Giant Loom will be arriving in The County Library Tallaght in September 2011 celebrating The Year of Craft and History and Heritage month. We are looking for individuals, families and community groups to participate in weaving workshops.
