ULTRASONIC D Compact ultrasonic heat meter Applications ULTRASONIC D is a compact ultrasonic heat meter used for measuring energy in heating and cooling plants in facility management systems as well as in local and district heating systems. Available as a PN16 threaded or PN25 flanged version, it is ideal for nominal flows from 0.6 to 6 m 3 /h and product temperatures from 5 to 130 C (150 > 3.5 m 3 /h). VD 6-350 d 09.2005 Features Compact ultrasonic heat meter Temperature range from 5 to 130 C (150 C for flow > 3.5 m 3 /h), special version available for cooling applications Sound reflectors designed for optimal flow Certified measuring range 1:250, Class 2 Can be updated with an M-Bus interface and 2 pulsed inputs or outputs Stores the data of the past 24 months and 440 meter readings along with error status Battery with 12- or 16-year lifetime or 24 VAC or 230 VAC power pack module Benefits Static measurement principle with no moving parts; insensitive to grit Accurate heat measurement in heating and cooling plants Low pressure loss High accuracy Cost-effective remote reading of 2 contact water meters via M-Bus Transparent data recording The optimum power supply for every application
Applications ULTRASONIC D is a fully-electronic compact heat meter for measuring heat in heating and cooling plants used in facility management systems and in local and district heating systems. Additional modules enable data to be transmitted via M-Bus or pulsed outputs. Another module with two pulsed inputs allows low-cost readout of two contact water meters via the M-Bus. Its ultrasonic measuring principle ensures that the unit is unaffected by small particles such as sand or limestone grit. Instrument design The compact ultrasonic heat meter consists of an ultrasonic flow sensor, two temperature sensors, for measuring forward and return flow temperatures, and an electronic totalizer. This totalizer can be mounted either on the flowmeter or on a wall. It contains the electronics for evaluating, displaying and protocolling the measurement signals of the flowmeter and temperature sensors. A wide variety of information is shown on the easy-to-read 7-character display with units and easy-to-understand symbols. The various display s and sequences can be called up by pushbutton. Downtimes and errors are automatically recorded and shown on the LC display. All critical data (measured values, equipment parameters and types of error) are periodically stored in a non-volatile memory (EEPROM). ULTRASONIC D is equipped with a ZVEI optical interface with an EN 1434 M-Bus protocol. This interface is also used for communicating with software to set the parameters. The unit is available with the following power supplies: battery with 12-year lifetime (3.0 VDC lithium battery) battery with 16-year lifetime (3.6 VDC Lithium battery, optional) power pack for 24 VAC power pack for 230 VAC Caption: By a special design of the reflectors the flow is accelerated so that deposits are avoided. The flow sensor with it ultrasonic technology guarantees very high measuring accuracy. It can be used either in the forward or return flow. The flow sensor complies with the requirements of EN 1434 / Class 2 and 3 with a measuring range of 1:250. ULTRASONIC D operates with paired Pt 500 temperature sensors using two-wire connections according to EN 1434. Optional modules Communication modules The following communication modules are available as options: M-Bus module to EN 1434 RS232 module (serial interface) with M-Bus protocol Module with two pulsed inputs The optional pulsed input module provides low-cost remote readout of two contact water meters via the M-Bus module of the ULTRASO- NIC D. Module with two pulsed outputs, error contact The optional pulsed output module provides two pulsed outputs with freely-programmable pulse weighting. Pulses for energy and volume are standard. Other values for the pulsed outputs can be configured as required: Energy tariff 1, 2 Tariff mode 1, 2, setpoint switching Error status for energy or volume 2
Combining modules The following table shows the possible combination of modules (2 slots): 2 pulsed 2 pulsed M-Bus RS232 inputs outputs 2 pulsed inputs 2 pulsed outputs Event memory Up to 31 entries of the following events can be recorded in the non-volatile memory: Checksum error on M-Bus transmission Error with temperature measurement Error with ultrasonic time-of-flight measurement Start and end of check mode Month memory ULTRASONIC D has an archived memory covering 24 months.the following values are stored in the EEPROM at the beginning of the month: Date Tariff specification 1 Maximum flow for the month Energy Tariff specification 2 Maximum output for the month Energy tariff 1 VolumeDate of maximum flow for the month Energy tariff 2 Meter for error days Date of maximum output for the month Log memory The log memory has 440 locations and can carry out a detailed analysis of the data: Time interval Duration Values Hours Days 1 min. - 6 min. in 1 min. steps 7,3-44 0,3-1,8 Date and time 10 min. 73 3.1 Energy, volume 12 min 88 3.7 Forward temperature, return temperature 15 min 110 4.6 Energy tariff 1, Energy tariff 2, 20 min 147 6.1 Tariff specification 1, Tariff specification 2, 30 min 220 9.2 Error status 60 min 440 18.3 Excess time temperature, excess time flow, 24 h (standard) 10'560 440 Meter for error days Note A readout of the log memory via the M-Bus or optical interface is only possible with special ULTRASONIC D service software. Peak value memory The totalizer stores maximum values for output and flow over a preselected time interval in the EEPROM (for 6, 15, 30 or 60 minutes or for 24 hours, standard setting: 60 min.). 3
Month Tariff Pulsed input Information Billing date Main Tariff function ULTRASONIC D can separately record energy and volume data for two different tariffs. The changeover can be programmed for a value that moves outside a set range (return flow temperature, temperature difference, output or flowrate). Tariff specification Range of setpoint values Accuracy T 1... 190 C 1 C T R 1... 190 C 1 C P 1... 255 kw 1 kw Q 100... 25 500 l/h 100 l/h Adjusting the display The LC display consists of a 7-character value with units as well as a wide range of symbols. The display can be adjusted using the operating key: Press key briefly < 3 sec to move to the next display within the same Press key continuously > 3 sec to move to the first display in the next The "Energy" window of the main (sequence 1.1) is the home display. If the key has not been pressed for approx. 4 minutes, the meter automatically returns to the power save mode. When the key is again pressed the meter returns to the home display. Display s The ULTRASONIC D display has six operating s. Some of the windows show a number of values (2 to 7).
