Blooming Rails This dramatic 91" x 107" quilt can easily be made in a weekend using precut 2-1/2" strips. Use your favorite fabrics or make it a planned scrappy it's up to you. Fabric requirements are shown in yardage, but you can substitute fat quarters as long as the strips are at least 20" long. Just double the number of strips shown. Options It usually works well to choose your border first, then pick colors from the border to use in the quilt. If you would prefer to use a 30-1/2" x 42-1/2" panel in the center, choose colors from the ones used in the panel. If you plan to do that, don't cut the poppy strips at all and only cut 25 white strips. If your panel isn't quite large enough, you can add coping strips around it and cut it down to size. Tips WOF means Width of Fabric. You will need a perfect 1/4" seam allowance. A Stripology ruler or a Shape Cut ruler will make cutting these strips very easy. Cross off the color names shown and write in yours before you begin. Don't skip the pressing steps. It's much easier to press as you go than it is to press the whole top at the end. Take the time to pin seams when you put rows together. Twisted seams can't be pressed properly and can make the whole quilt top bumpy and hard to quilt. Requirements: 1/2 yard poppies on white cut into 5 strips 2-1/2" wide by the WOF. 1/2 yard poppies on black cut into 6 strips 2-1/2" wide by the WOF. (disregard if using a panel) 1-1/2 yard red cut into 19 strips 2-1/2" wide by the WOF. 2-3/4 yard white cut into 39 strips 2-1/2" wide by the WOF. (If you are using a panel, only cut 1-3/4 yard into 27 strips) 2-5/8 yards green cut into 37 strips 2-1/2" wide by the WOF. 2-5/8 yard border cut into 13 strips 6-1/2" wide by the WOF The Fine Print: You may make one copy of this pattern for your personal use only.
