Visual Arts Adult Watercolor Ages 16 Adult Instructor: Neil Kienitz Beginners 12 sessions: Mondays, Sept 19 Dec 5, 7:00 9:00 PM Tuition: $135 Former Students 8 sessions: Mondays, Oct 17 Dec 5, 7:00 9:00 PM Tuition: $95 Watch the magic happen as your brush, loaded with translucent color, sweeps across your paper. This class will give beginning students an overview of the materials and introduce basic techniques, such as layering colors. More experienced students will join the class on the 5 th week and learn new tricks as well. Drawing Trees Using Ink New Instructor: Olivia Petrides 1 session: Saturday, Oct 22, 9:30 3:30 PM Tuition: $95 This workshop is designed for students of all levels who love botanical forms and wish to document them. As humans, we relate personally to trees because most trees have the same life span as we do. In the beautiful, wooded Brincka-Cross Gardens, students will be instructed in how to depict the character of a tree its gesture in space that makes each tree unique. Some unusual implements, like twigs and self-made pens, will be used to make singular marks. Bring a bag lunch. Supply list will be provided upon registration. Dynamic Realism in Oil Painting Back by Demand Instructor: Laura Cutler 6 sessions: Thursdays, Sept 29 Nov 3, 6:30 8:30 PM Tuition: $125 This class is an introduction to oil painting that emphasizes color mixing and painting techniques to achieve realism. A variety of painting techniques will be explored including grisaille, glazing, and alla prima. Subjects will include still life objects and portrait models. All skill levels are welcome, from beginner to the artist wanting to hone their skills. Supply list will be given upon registration.
Fiber Dyeing Ages 14 Adult Instructor: Deborah Landry 1 session: Saturday, Nov 12, 12:00 4:00 PM Tuition: $45 Learn to dye wool and cotton fibers that can be incorporated into weavings, knitted works, and felted projects, with just a crock pot, microwave and your own two hands. Introduction to Encaustic New Ages 14 Adult Instructor: Deborah Landry 4 sessions: Tuesdays, Sept 27 Oct 18, 6:30 8:30 PM Tuition: $75 Encaustic painting is a process using heated beeswax and colored pigments. Students will explore new inventive ways to use wax as a medium, and to incorporate found objects, leaving each day with a new work of art. Bring your bits and treasures. $30 supply fee. Kumihimo Beading New Ages 16 Adult Instructor: Elaine Aquino 4 sessions: Wednesdays, Oct 5 26, 6:30 8:30 PM Tuition: $85 Students will learn the ancient technique of Kumihimo, a Japanese braiding of silk often combined with beads to create jewelry. Each necklace or bracelet uses 4 yards of silk with hundreds of beads braided on a small loom. Traditionally, Kumihimo cords were used by the Samurai, both as a functional and decorative way to lace their armor. Tools needed for first class: round nose pliers, chain nose or bent nose pliers, and a flush cutter. Let s Make a Movie! New Instructor: Rana Segal 6 sessions: Saturdays, Sept 24 Oct 29, 11:00 3:00 PM Tuition: $150 Learn HD production techniques while creating a documentary. Topics include introduction to the camera, lighting, sound, composition, camera movement, interviewing a subject and post production. In-class demonstrations and hands on exercises allow students to work collaboratively on a documentary project. $30 equipment fee. No member discount on equipment fee.
Pastel Techniques for Painting Trees New : Beginning to intermediate students Instructor: Susan Henshaw 2 sessions: Saturday & Sunday, Oct 15 & 16, 12:00 4:00 PM Tuition: $135 Using pastel, students will learn a variety of techniques for achieving believable trees, including under-painting, layering, blending and glazing. Students will be taught basic tree shapes and methods for applying foliage. The class also focuses on color, volume, movement and scale. Each session begins with a demonstration of techniques. Students may choose from source material provided or bring their own. Supply list will be given upon registration. Teen Artists Studio Ages 11 17 Instructor: Alison Jaksa 11 sessions: Tuesdays, Sept 20 Dec 6, 4:00 5:30 PM Tuition: $135 Popular Young Artists Studio instructor Alison Jaksa provides a next step for teen artists in this challenging art class, where students will learn, and utilize a variety of artistic concepts, mediums and techniques. Many of the lessons will relate to current LCA exhibitions. Young Artists Studio Ages 6 10, Limit 10 Instructor: Alison Jaksa 11 sessions: Thursdays, Sept 22 Dec 8, 4:00 5:30 PM Tuition: $120 This creative and popular class features art projects in a variety of mediums and techniques, many based on current LCA exhibitions. Students learn art appreciation as they create their own works under the guidance of expert instructor, Alison Jaksa. Ms. Jaksa teaches LCA summer camp to the delight of all the children, and employs innovative ideas for teaching art and keeping students engaged.
Performance Group Improv Back by Demand Ages 18 Adult Instructor: Jasmine Lake 6 sessions: Sundays, Sept 25 Oct 30, 5:30 7:00 PM Tuition: $75 Set aside some time for freedom of expression. Censoring our emotions, thoughts and actions all the time is exhausting! In group improvisation, you are encouraged to stop thinking and start doing. Through games and exercises you will learn to free your mouth and mind, letting impulsive thoughts and actions guide you instead of rationality. No prior experience is necessary, just an open mind and a love of laughs! Writing Sandcastle Writers Back by Demand Instructor: Jo Pilecki 8 sessions: Wednesdays, Sept 28 Nov 16, 6:30 8:30 PM Tuition: $120 A writing workshop beneficial for both beginning and experienced writers, and especially well suited to the shy writer, the rusty writer, the always wanted to write but never did writer of fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. Using the Amherst Writers and Artists method, this workshop focuses on in-class writing, sharing (if the writer chooses), and positive feedback in a safe, encouraging environment. Prompts are employed to help writers with their craft and creativity and to overcome fear and writer s block. Please bring paper and pen. Nurture, Heal & Inspire Back by Demand Instructor: Jo Pilecki 4 sessions: Saturdays, Sept 24 Oct 15, 10:00 12:00 PM Tuition: $80 Take time to nurture yourself and watch the leaves change color. Come write in a beautiful setting where writers are supported and stimulated. Using the Amherst Writers and Artists method and guided by a trained workshop leader, we will write together, then share and respond gently to new work. This workshop will take place in the unique tranquility of the Brincka-Cross Gardens, property of the Porter County Parks and Recreation, and home to hundreds of rare plant species.
