Other suggestions are Money, Relationship, Faith, Community. Or any of your own ideas. If you feel strongly that you need six, seven or even eight sections, just draw them in. Or perhaps five categories is just perfect. Either way, this is your Life Star Chart, so make it work for you. We only insist that you keep My Own Coach in the mix. We ll explain more about why, and what that means, in a moment.
We insist you keep My Own Coach as one of your categories on your Life Star Chart because we believe it is the most important part of developing yourself and working towards improving areas of your life and personal fulfilment. So often the obligations, duties and responsibilities of being Mummy, homemaker, cook, taxi-driver, daughter, sister, wife or partner, work and other commitments take over and as a result it s easy to lose sight of yourself, and what needs you have on an emotional and personal level. Being Your Own Coach, is about looking out for your own needs by making yourself and your mental, emotional, physical and spiritual wellbeing your top priority. It s about listening to your intuition when it tells you you need some time out for yourself, listening to your gut feelings, and nurturing yourself before you reach burn out. It s about remembering to include your own needs on the family calendar. It s about being mindful that you re important too. When your own levels of satisfaction and happiness are stockpiled high, that means you have more to give to others around you. Without taking time to focus on you, you can easily end up feeling depleted, despondent and unhappy, and not giving your best to your family, your health or any other area that is important to you. We ve all been there, and it doesn t look pretty does it?! So My Own Coach is staying put on the Life Star Chart. Each of the spokes on the star is marked with ten dashes. These dashes represent your satisfaction levels in that particular area of your life. The centre point represents level 0 satisfaction and the outmost point of the star, represents level 10 satisfaction where you are the most fulfilled you can be in any one area. STEP ONE: Take a few quiet, undistracted minutes to think about each area of your life and where you currently are. Even if this is uncomfortable, stick with it. Mark on the star what level of satisfaction you are experiencing in your life today with a cross symbol. Like this one: All sorts of images, feelings and thoughts will occur to you as you do this exercise. That s good. That ll help us get a better understanding of what your frustrations and limitations are in any given area. We ll come to those later. You may be unhappy with your first instinct about where you currently are in life. It may be uncomfortable to admit. That s ok. We re going to get past this point. Trust your intuition, and put down your first response, not the number you think it SHOULD be!
STEP TWO: Now it s time to focus on where you would like your life to be. Taking each of the areas in turn, sit quietly for a few moments, and assess what you would like that area of your life to look like. Let your imagination run wild. If you could be, do or have anything, what would it be like? This is a great way to connect with your dreams, ambitions and desires. Think big, and let yourself dream. Notice the images, thoughts and feelings that come into your head, as you begin to consider what your level 10 satisfaction would be like to live in reality. Notice how compelling that version of reality is, and also notice the negative, mean and nasty thoughts that pop into your head about the likelihood of achieving your dreams. One of the things we ll be doing regularly in the Inspiring Mummy Club, is acknowledging these limiting thoughts and feelings, and making new choices about how we talk to ourselves about our capabilities. Mark the star spokes with a tick symbol for where you would like each of the areas to be. Like this one: You may be thinking, Well, why wouldn t I want every area to be level 10 satisfaction?, and you d be right to wonder that. As you think about your life, you may come to realise that everything requires balance, and that to achieve level 10 in one area, may mean you give less to another area. What you re wanting to work towards in your vision for your future, is greater balance that feels and looks just right to you. Join up the ticks to add another ring to the spiders web diagram of your life s dreams. You ll be left with two squiggly shapes, that indicate where you most need to put your focus and attention in order to make some positive changes to your life. This will serve as a powerful visual reminder of where you started from as you move forward with Inspiring Mummy Club, and you begin to empower yourself to make changes and grow on a personal level. It s a fabulous tool to check in with from time to time. We ll be visiting it next month too, so keep it safe.
