Storing, Handling, and Cleaning dekō Markerboards Storing Markerboards dekō markerboards must be stored inside, and stacked horizontally to avoid bowing. Do not store or transport dekō markerboards outdoors in direct sunlight or extreme heat. Handling The face of each dekō markerboard is protected by high quality polyethylene film.the protective film should be left in position throughout machining and remain in place until installation is complete to keep the board surface in factory condition. It is strongly recommended to avoid external storage. Protective film and adhesives could be damaged by UV exposure, which would make it difficult to remove them from the markerboard surface. After removing the protective film, clean dekō markerboard with denatured alcohol prior to first use. Cleaning Dry Erase Marker A dry eraser or soft microfiber cloth is recommended. Wet Erase Marker A chamois with non-abrasive soap or detergent in warm water, or dry erase cleaner is recommended. Permanent Markers Denatured alcohol is recommended to remove tough inks and permanent maker. Do not use solvents, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners on your dekō markerboards. 1 844-602-3220
Installation Methods Z-Clip installation For this method dekō markerboards are supplied with a continuous aluminum Z-bar and spacers adhered to the back of the board for this method. Spacers will be pre-positioned as follows: (1) spacer for every 1 of height. Wall mount clips will be supplied as follows: (2) clips for boards 1-4 in length (panhead screws not included - 2 per clip needed) (3) clips for boards 4-6 in length (panhead screws not included - 2 per clip needed) (4) clips for boards 6-8 in lengths (panhead screws not included - 2 per clip needed) Recommended mounting height (top of board): 80 above floor. Install surface must be free of dust. Mark a level line 4 down from desired top height of board. WALL Z-Bar on back of markerboard Z-Clip receiver placed bottom edge at 4 below finished top of markerboard DETAIL Align the bottom of the wall clip on the line and mount to wall with #8 pan head screw and appropriate wall anchor. If mounting tight to ceiling, allow 1/2 additional clearance for hanging on wall clips. After installation is complete remove outer protective film. Clean dekō markerboard with denatured alcohol prior to first use. Installation Methods Individual markerboards - direct adhesive installation For this method deko markerboards are supplied with pre-positioned high-bond adhesive strips. Locate area for installation. (Recommended mounting height (top of board): 80 above floor.) Draw marks for level and plumb. Apply a 1/4 bead of adhesive (neutral cure silicone, included in install kit) in wavy pattern between tape as per drawing. Remove tape backer. Install dekō markerboard according to the level and plumb marks. NOTE: Once mounting tape has contacted wall surface any additional adjustment may not be possible. Press board to wall to engage tape using supplied tool (brush/squeegee). After installation is complete remove outer protective film. Clean dekō markerboard with denatured alcohol prior to first use. 1/4-3/8 1/2 1/2 1/4-3/8 3/8 ADHESIVE BEAD TAPE STRIPS 3/8 8 to 16 centers Multiple markerboards - direct adhesive installation For each additional dekō markerboard, follow instructions outlined in the Individual guidelines. Suggested Rust-Oleum spray paint colors: Diamond - Satin White Jade - Satin White Topaz - Satin Nutmeg Ruby - Apple Red Sapphire - Satin Aqua Onyx - Black For each dekō wall panel, follow mounting instructions outlined in the individual board direct adhesive guidelines. Leave seams dry (no silicone) to allow for easy marker erasing (markers will discolor silicone). Making custom openings in your dekō markerboard (performed prior to installation - skip this section if not applicable to your project) dekō markerboards are supplied with a protective film. Only remove the film after installation of markerboard is completed. Mark all holes and cut lines on the film using a soft pencil or felt tip pen, do not use metal scribes SUPPORT MARKERBOARD BACK ON PLYWOOD SHEET OR SOLID TABLE TOP Drilling for Openings 48 max Always drill a hole at the corner of any cut-out or notch. Avoid cutting square inside corners. Slightly blunt drill bits work better as they cut through the material more slowly. To blunt the drill bit, sand the cutting edges with 100 grit sandpaper. Drill from the face (clear side) of the markerboard to reduce the risk of chipping. Best results will be achieved with a slow to medium drill speed. Cutting Openings Jigsaws with blades suitable for timber or plastics can be used for cutting openings. Do not allow blade to overheat. Sand both cutting edges SHOW FACE DRILL FROM CLEAR SIDE 110-130 IMPORTANT: Sand edges of openings to smooth blade marks and chips. COLOR SIDE DOWN SACRIFICIAL WOOD 5 844-602-3220
Installation Methods Stand-Off installation method For this method dekō markerboards are supplied with a protective film. Mark all holes on the film using a soft pencil or felt tip pen, do not use metal scribes Holes should be drilled at each corner and inset 3 from each edge (see illustration). dekō markerboards over 3 but less than 6 in width will need stand-off mounting holes drilled midway between the corner drillings on both top and bottom edges. dekō markerboards over 6 in width will need stand-off mounting holes drilled at the 1/3 and 2/3 points between the corner drillings on both top and bottom edges.
