storing and handling dekō markerboards Protective Film The face of each dekō markerboard is protected by high quality polyethylene film. The protective film is left in position throughout machining and shall remain in place until installation is complete to keep the board surface in perfect condition. It is strongly recommended to avoid external storage. Protective film and adhesives could be damaged by UV exposure, which would make it difficult to remove the masking film. Storing Markerboards Markerboards must be stored inside, and stacked horizontally to avoid any bowing. Do not store or transport deko markerboards outdoors or in direct sunlight or extreme heat. Cleaning Cleaning with a dekō dry eraser is recommended. Good results may be achieved by using a soft micro fiber cloth, or a chamois with a non abrasive soap or detergent in warm water. Dry erase marker cleaner may also be used to remove hazing. Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol is acceptible as a cleaner. Do not use solvents, harsh chemicals, or abrasive cleaners on your dekō markerboard surface. 1 844-602-3220
Standard Installation Methods In this manual we are providing installation instructions for three standard methods: 1. Z-Clip (hidden mount) installation. 2. Stand-Off installation. 3. Direct (adhesive) installation. Z-Clip Installation Tools needed: level, screwdriver or power drill driver Z-Clip mounting system is supplied with a high quality continuous aluminum track adhered to the back of the board.the track is mounted 1-1/2 down from the top of the board and inset 6 from each end of the board. Wall mount clips will be supplied as follows: 3 clips for boards 4-6 in length (panhead screws not included - 2 per clip needed) 4 clips for boards 6-8 in lengths (panhead screws not included - 2 per clip needed) Recommended mounting height (top of board): 80 above floor. Mark a level line 5-7/8 down from desired top height of board. Align the bottom of the wall clip on the line and mount to wall with #8 pan head screw and appropriate wall anchor. If mounting tight to ceiling, allow 3/8 additional clearance for hanging on wall clips. Stand-Off Installation Unless otherwise specified, all stand-off mounts will be pre-drilled. Recommended mounting height (top of board): 80 above floor. If drilling on-site, holes should be drilled at each corner and inset from each edge (see illustration). dekō markerboards over 3 but less than 6 in width will have stand-off mounting holes drilled midway between the corner drillings on both top and bottom edges. dekō markerboards over 6 in width will have stand-off mounting holes drilled at the 1/3 and 2/3 points between the corner drillings on both top and bottom edges. Mark all holes and cut lines on the film using a soft pencil or felt tip pen, do not use metal scribes 3 844-602-3220 48 max Only remove the film immediately after installation of markerboard. Drilling openings Always drill a hole at the corner of any cut-out or notch. Avoid cutting square inside corners. Slightly blunt drill bits work better as they cut through the material more slowly.to blunt the drill bit, but the cutting edges with 100 grit sandpaper. Drill from the face (clear side) of the markerboard to reduce the risk of chipping. Best results will be achieved with a slow to medium drill speed. Cutting for Openings Jigsaws with blades suitable for timber or plastics can be used for short distances such as power point openings. Do not allow blade to overheat. Sand both cutting edges 110-130
Direct Installation Do not remove protective film until markerboard is mounted. High-Bond adhesive strips come pre-positioned for this installation. Locate area for installation. (Recommended mounting height (top of board): 80 above floor.) Draw marks for level and plumb. Apply a 1/4 bead of adhesive (neutral cure silicone) in wavy pattern between tape as per drawing (included in install kit). Remove tape backer. Install deko markerboard according to the level and plumb marks. NOTE: Once mounting tape has contacted wall surface any additional adjustment may not be possible. Press board to wall to engage tape using supplied tool (brush/squeegee). Remove outer protective film. 3/8 3/8 ADHESIVE BEAD 1/4-3/8 1/2 8 to 16 centers 1/2 1/4-3/8 TAPE STRIPS 844-602-3220 4
