DWDM Mux Demux 2 General Specifications I. No. of Channel & Wavelengths DWDM Channels Defined by the ITU-T G.694.1, the DWDM channel spacing ranges from 12.5GHz to 200GHz. Typical DWDM systems use 48 channels at 100GHz spacing (0.8nm) or 96 channels at 50GHz spacing (0.4nm). Most DWDM wavelengths in use are found in the C-band (1530 1565nm). Hybrid CWDM/DWDM System DWDM wavelengths are within the wavelength range of CWDM, which have much smaller channel spacing, so CWDM wavelengths near DWDM can be used to transmit the DWDM wavelengths. A hybrid C/DWDM system is built to expand the existing CWDM system, keeping initial startup costs low. CWDM Channels (Bandwidth) 1530nm (±6.5 nm) 1550nm (±6.5 nm) DWDM Channels (Center Wavelength) C52-C61 (1528.77-1535.82 nm) C27-C42 (1543.73-1555.75 nm) 10 DWDM channels insertion into CWDM 1530nm wavelength 16 DWDM channels insertion into CWDM 1550nm wavelength Note: Connect the line port of DWDM Mux Demux to CWDM 1530nm/1550nm wavelength.

DWDM Mux Demux 3 II. Line Type Dual Fiber Applications Dual fiber DWDM OADM adds and drops optical signals of same wavelengths into two fibers. The DWDM transceiver connected to DWDM OADM should have the same wavelength as the client port. Single Fiber Applications In single fiber applications, DWDM OADM adds and drops optical signals of different wavelengths into a fiber in the opposite direction. It utilizes a single fiber for both adding and droping, which reduces overall costs, and increases the capacity of the fiber. Site A Site C Site B TX RX C22 C23 C33 RX C22 TX C23 RX C24 TX C33 RX C34 DWDM MUX & DEMUX 1ch Single Fiber Bidirectional C22 C22 DWDM MUX & DEMUX TX C22 RX C23 TX C24 RX C33 TX C34 C24 C34 C35 TX C35 RX C35 C36 RX C36 TX C36 C22 Take 1ch /C22 DWDM OADM as an example, the wavelength of the transceiver mainly based on the transmit wavelength of the client port on the DWDM OADM.

CWDM OADM 3 II. Transmission Direction For adding/dropping DWDM channels across sites, we categorize our DWDM OADM in two groups: single-sided (East or West) and dual-sided (East and West). If DWDM OADM adds/drops the wavelengths in one side on fiber network, it is the East or West module; On contrary, it is the East and West module. East or West The single-sided OADM removes one channel from the network in one direction and sends it to a local interface. The remaining channels are passed straight through to other nodes along the network. TX: -C28 C22-C28 RX: C22-C28 RX: -C28 TX: C22-C28 C22-C28 Add: Drop: East and West The dual-sided OADM removes one channel from the network in one direction and sends it to a local interface in one direction. It also allows a second local port to add the same channel back onto the network fiber in the opposite direction. TX: -C28 C22-C28 RX: -C28 RX: -C28 TX: -C28 C22-C28 Add: Drop: Add: Drop:

DWDM Mux Demux 01 4 III. Special Service Monitor Port It is used to monitor or test the power signal, usually at a 1% ratio, 2%, 3%, 5%, etc, also available. By connecting with measurement or monitoring equipment, such as power meters, spectrum analyzer, or FMT AIU/OPD card, the signal can be inspected without interrupting the existing network. Expansion Port It is used to add or expand more channels to the network, by connecting it with the line port of another DWDM Mux/Demux supporting different wavelengths. 1310nm Port The 1310nm is actually WDM wavelength. Many optical transceivers, especially the CWDM and DWDM SFP/SFP+ transceiver, support long-haul transmission over these two wavelengths. By connecting with the same wavelength optical transceivers, this port can be used to add 1310nm wavelength into existing DWDM networks. PS: DWDM Mux/Demux can't add 1550nm port due to DWDM wavelength range near 1550nm wavelength. 1310nm for 40G LR4/ER4, 100G CFP LR4 1310nm for 40G LR4/ER4, 100G CFP LR4 λ1 λn DWDM Mux & Demux TX RX 1% 1% RX TX DWDM Mux & Demux λ1 λn Mux& Demux Expansion port for future capacity expansion Expansion port for future capacity expansion Mux& Demux

DWDM Mux Demux 01 6 Technical Specifications V. WDM Technologies: TFF vs AWG TFF - Thin Film Filters ( 16ch) In optical communication system, many modular DWDM Filters and just about all CWDM optics derive from the TFF technology. The mature technology offers good temperature stability, channel-to-channel isolation, and a broad passband. But when channel counts is beyond 16, insertion losses are accumulated. AWG - Arrayed Waveguide Gratings (> 16ch) Then AWG technology emerges as the main technical approach in high-channelcount applications. The key advantage of AWGs over TFF is that their cost is not dependent on wavelength count making them extremely cost-effective for high channel count applications. The other advantages are the flexibility in selecting channel numbers and spacing. 1 Athermal AWG (AAWG) vs. Thermal AWG (TAWG) AWG includes Athermal AWG and Thermal AWG. AAWG have equivalent performance to standard TAWG but require no electrical power, software or temperature. 2 AWG Gaussian vs. Flat-top Response Gaussian profiles offer lower insertion loss with a narrower pass band. Flat-top multiplexers offer broader pass band with a higher insertion loss, its' advantage is the precision requirement for the transmission signal. VI. Industrial Temperature for Outside-Plant Applications Industrial temperature -40 ~ 85 C can meet the requirements of outside-plant applications. DWDM Mux Demux devices based on the TFF technology can be customized as industrial temperature. Generally, operating temperature about TFF devices is -5 C~ +75 C, storage temperature is -40 C~+85 C. If you need even more requirements, welcome to contact tech@fs.com or sales@fs.com. We will do our absolute best to optimize your total solution.
