Captain Roderick Gow, OBE Simon Erskine Locke. Olivia M. McLaren, Corporate Secretary The Lord Sempill. Ron Shelton. Robert W. Thompson, Treasurer Camilla G. Hellman, MBE, Executive Director Scotland Week We will celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the First Scotland Week in New York, which took place from November 11th - 18th 1974. Instituted by Lady Douglas-Hamilton, Chairman of the Foundation, she declared Scotland Week marks the first official week-long celebration of Scottish-American ties and...will be an annual event in the future. In subsequent years, following Congressional, Senate and Presidential decree, April 6 was designated Tartan Day leading to week long festivities of Scottish American people, culture and heritage. We will toast Lady Douglas-Hamilton for her vision. Claudio Del Vecchio The American-Scottish Foundation recognizes Claudio Del Vecchio, Chairman and CEO of Brooks Brothers, for his and the Company s historic and continued support of Scotland s heritage industries. The Company s heritage with Scotland dates back to the 1600s when Thomas Lyon emigrated to the United States from Glen Lyon, Scotland. A century later, his granddaughter, Lavinia, carried her Scottish heritage into her marriage to Henry Sands Brooks, the founder of Brooks Brothers. In celebration of this heritage, the Brooks Brothers signature tartan was created, combining elements of the traditional Scottish Campbell tartan with its legendary BB#1 repp stripe tie pattern. The unique tartan is registered with the Scottish Tartans Authority and made exclusively for Brooks Brothers. American-Scottish Foundation ASF is an international not-for-profit organization, that links and strengthens ties between Scotland and the United States, through contemporary social, cultural, educational, and business activities. The mission remains as relevant today as when ASF was founded in 1956 by Lord Malcolm Douglas-Hamilton - to champion the extraordinary relationship between the peoples of Scotland and the United States - a bridge between the two great countries - seeking to strengthen & support the future of the Scottish American international community, and its legacy.
