Prof JOSEPH STIGLITZ TY & OUR FUTURE One of the most frequently cited economists in the world and is one of the most sought-after thinkers about the future of the world economy.

his accomplishments Professor Stiglitz is Professor of Economics at Columbia University. His contribution to macro economics and monetary theory has been extensive. He was the winner of the 2001 Nobel Prize in Economics and is a celebrated author on economics and finance. He was previously a Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors from 1993-5 during the Clinton Administration and was formerly the Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank (1997-2000). He was a lead author of the 1995 report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former US Vice President, Al Gore.

his economic views Joseph Stiglitz offers an in-depth analysis of today s economic climate, providing audiences with both historical context and real-time analysis to shed light on the recent financial crisis. His insights help to provide an understanding of the post-crisis global business landscape. Professor Stiglitz enjoys the reputation as an engaging straight-talker who does not shy away from difficult or complicated discussions about the political and business environment we face and his view on the policy responses this now requires. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for his role in creating "The Economics of Information, exploring the consequences of information asymmetries and pioneering such pivotal concepts as adverse selection and moral hazard, which have now become standard tools of theorists and policy analysts. His work explains the circumstances in which markets do not work well, and how selective government intervention can improve market performance.

his books 2003 2004 2007 2010 2012

Freefall; America, Free Markets and the Sinking of the World Economy In Freefall, Stiglitz traces the origins of the Great Recession, eschewing easy answers and demolishing the contention that America needs more billion-dollar bailouts and free passes to those too big to fail, while also outlining the alternatives and revealing that even now there are choices ahead that can make a difference. The system is broken, and we can only fix it by examining the underlying theories that have led us into this new bubble capitalism. Stiglitz argues convincingly for a restoration of the balance between government and markets. America as a nation faces huge challenges in health care, energy, the environment, education, and manufacturing and Stiglitz addresses each in light of the newly emerging global economic order. The New York Times Review by Kevin Phillips Freefall has three standout strengths. First, it is a powerful indictment of Wall Street, the United States financial sector and the Federal Reserve Board. Second, it offers a reluctant but persuasive elaboration of how the Obama administration decided to embrace the financial sector and the Fed, continuing and enlarging both the bailout and the too-big-to-fail philosophy that it inherited from George W. Bush. Finally, it is a blunt attack on Stiglitz's own profession, for transforming "scientific discipline" into "free-market capitalism's biggest cheerleader Stiglitz's virtue is that he minces few words.
