The Department of Anthropology invites students and recent graduates to submit digital images and film to the annual Photo Contest. The goal of this contest is to obtain photos and short films that may be used our website and for other departmental promotional purposes. Please submit your original images that represent what Anthropology is, and your experiences and research being an anthropologist. Photos could include, but are not limited to: (1) pictures of you and your colleagues in the field, the lab, or the classroom, conducting anthropological research, science, or teaching; (2) pictures of anthropological subjects such as people, animals and landscapes; (3) anthropology of everyday life. Anthropology is an extremely broad and creative subject. Our hope is that submissions will reflect the breadth and depth of the field of anthropology that we as a department experience and research. AWARDS 1st Prize: $200 2nd Prize: $150 3rd Prize: $100 Honorable Mentions: $25 SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 1. All entries must include a submission form (2 pages) completed by the actual photographer. If you are not the photographer then you do not own the rights to the photo and thus cannot submit the photo to this contest. If you are in the photo then document how you took the photo. 2. All recognizable photographs of individuals require verbal or written consent from the model to release their image for display or circulation. A model release form is attached to this submission, if written permission is required. 3. You can submit up to three (3) digital files. Digital file requirements: a) 300+ dpi resolution; b) RGB color or grayscale; c) in tiff (or jpeg) format and d) attached to an email sent to rjvasquez@alaska.edu; or saved on a PC
compatible CD labeled with your full name and date. 4. Label each file so that it corresponds with the number (1-5) on the Submission Form, under Image Identification. 5. In the description of the image on the Submission Form, please provide complete names for each recognizable individual. 6. All submissions must be received on or before the deadline: October 15, 2015 7. You must complete and sign the Publishing Permission section of the Submission Form to be eligible for this contest. PUBLISHING PERMISSION I am the photographer of the submitted media and I grant permission to the University Of Alaska Fairbanks, Department of Anthropology to publish submitted photos on the Department s website or other electronic form or media, and to offer the photographs for use or distribution to other University Units, without notification. I also grant permission to the Department of Anthropology to use photos for future advertising and promotional purposes. Any such use will include full attribution/credit to me as the photographer. I waive any right to inspect or approve the photographs or electronic matter that may be used in conjunction with them now or in the future, whether that use is known to me or unknown, and I waive any right to royalties or other compensation arising from or related to the use of the photographs. I hereby agree to release and hold harmless the University Of Alaska Fairbanks, Department of Anthropology from and against any claims, damages or liability arising from or related to the use of the photographs, including but not limited to any re-use, distortion, blurring, alteration, optical illusion or use in composite form, either intentionally or otherwise, that may occur or be produced in production of the finished product.
