Color Replacement Color Wheel The color wheel provides independent artists, designers, illustrators and any other professionals that depend on color a foundation for choosing and creating colorful designs. You will come to find many colors work well together and there are those that just should never been seen again together. This all comes together once you become more familiar with the basic color schemes. Learning Targets Utilize the pen tool to create custom drawings using anchor points and Bezier curves. Choose and place colors in appropriate positions on the color wheel Interpret color in means of tints, shades, intensity and hues. Compile a color wheel that is created using the vector concept. Essential Question How can you modify the color of a selected object and repeat it in a color wheel format using primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. Higher Order Thinking Questions What tools are important for darkening and lightening an image? Why is it important to work within selections when modifying color? Assessment Project Requirements 10 x 10 72 ppi

RGB Color JPEG High Compression Must contain 3 Primary, 3 Secondary and 6 Tertiary (5 objects of each color, 60 total layers) Colors must be grouped and named into similar folders in the layers panel Craftsmanship Colors are placed correctly in the color wheel format Objects are colored appropriately and grouped by color in the Photoshop layers panel Technique Use of the Color Replacement tool for re- coloring an object Grouping layers into folders for better organization Burning and Dodging of the original layer to produce the appropriate color Productivity/Self Direction Appropriate use of class time to develop work Critical Thinking Problem Solving Lesson content has been interpreted and executed correctly, and the process of the lesson has been analyzed to solve problems uniquely. Vocabulary Primary: Red, yellow, blue Secondary: The combination of two primary colors; violet, orange, green Tertiary: The combination of a primary and a secondary color; red- violet, blue- violet, yellow- green, yellow- orange, blue- green, red- orange Analogous: Colors that are adjacent on the color wheel. These colors work harmoniously creating a unification of color. Monochromatic: Mono is one color. When one color is darkened and lightened using black in white to represent a wide range of one color. Color Replacement Tool: Photoshop tool used for the replacement of an existing color with the exception of black or white. Black or white cannot be replaced. Groups: Using folders to organize layers in Photoshop.

Duplicate Layer: A process of replicating a layer in Photoshop. Layer Styles: A menu option when a layer is double clicked where drop shadows and other affects can be applied to one layer. Project Procedure Choose an Object Choose an object to repeat in some sort of visual way. Use the project example for color placement reference. Cut out the original object and drag it to a new document. Make sure that the object that you choose contains a large area of one color. That area will be used to change color into the various parts of the color wheel.

Recolor the Object Use the Color Replacement tool recolor the object to the necessary color. You will need to be re- coloring the object 12 times (one for each of the colors). to

The Color Wheel You will be using all 12 colors from the color wheel (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary). Use this as a guide for the object s spatial placement.

Layer Styles The Layer Styles are used for adding things such as a drop shadow, inner shadow, outer shadow, bevel and emboss, satin overlay, color overlay, gradient overlay, pattern overlay and a stroke. The layer styles can be applied to any layer that is not locked. Once you have made all your little adjustments with color keep one layer as your master layer that you will copy from.

Grouping Layers Keep your layers organized because this project will have lots and lots of layers. To stay organized group your objects into folders by clicking the little folder icon on the layers panel. Now you can keep the objects organize according to the colors of the color wheel. To add a layer to a group just drag the layer to the folder and release the mouse. You can expand or collapse the folder by clicking the triangle next to the folder icon of the group. Make a group
