Four Generation Ancestor Report for Richard Henry Walker (1934-2012) This is a sample of our work, and all of the individuals are fictitious Devon Family History Research www.devonfamilyhistoryresearch.co.uk Prepared by Devon Family History Research www.devonfamilyhistoryresearch.co.uk 44 (0) 1548 531169 January 2014

Introduction This report is based on genealogical research carried out into the ancestors of the late Richard Henry Walker (1934-2012). It was commissioned by his daughter Harriet who wished to trace her late father s ancestors back by three generations, as far back as his eight great-grandparents. This report covers four generations including the root person. Harriet knew that a lot of her father s family had originated in Devon, but was not sure exactly where any of his ancestors had come from, and she did not know many of their names. This research was carried out by Catherine Plowden in the period October 2013 to January 2014. A four generation pedigree chart is enclosed with this report, and this takes Harriet s father s family history back as far as 1841, with the birth of George Luscombe Jeffrey on 2 July 1841 in Tiverton, Devon. George was Harriet s great-great grandfather. A pedigree chart gives each individual a number, and shows their direct ancestors - their parents, great-grandparents etc. The four generation pedigree chart compiled for this commission shows fourteen ancestors of Harriet s late father Richard. The sources of information used to compile this report are detailed at the end of this report and include the following: official General Register Office birth, marriage and death certificates, and census returns. In addition, useful family information was kindly provided by the Walker and Jeffrey families. Recommendations for further investigation are made. The original GRO birth, marriage and death certificates are all enclosed, together with copies of the relevant entries from the census returns. January 2014 Page 2 of 10

Recommendations for Further Research As Harriet Walker is particularly keen to continue research into the history of the Walker line, we suggest that more detailed research is carried out into the earlier census returns for Bickleigh (prior to 1871), the parish records for Bickleigh and the history of Bickleigh itself. This would include checking entries in any trade directories and local publications. It is recommended that William Walker s ancestry is researched. From his birth certificate, we know the names of both of his parents, and that they were married at the time of William s birth in 1859. This will entail detailed research into parish records for his parents births and their marriage. These events may have taken place in Bickleigh, or nearby, but there is always the possibility of having to search further afield. Various members of the family have mentioned that they would like to consider further work on locating the burial places of as many of the family as possible. This could well the subject of further research. The family is also keen to research the names of siblings of the individuals in the pedigree, in the hope that they could make contact with unknown cousins etc. The censuses would provide a vital source of information for starting this type of research.
