Mounting the GPS Box It is recommended to perform check of the GPS function before mounting the box to its finl loction, s described in section 3. The GXR-GPS box cn be fixed to vrious loctions. The position of the box should be defined ccording to position where GPS ntenn cn esily get the stellite signls. Typiclly the box is fixed on n outside wll or on roof. This is n importnt point since for the synchronistion of the instrument, the ntenn should receive t lest signls from 3 stellites. Mke sure tht t lest 75% of the sky is visible t ll times over the GPS box. Fixtion of the housing should be done with M4 screws. With spcings nd loctions s shown in Figure 11, Figure 12 nd Figure 13. Type of screws depends on the type of surfce where box is going to be fixed. Figure 11. Mechnicl fixtion of housing Figure 12. Inside view of the GXR-GPS housing Figure 13. GS_GXR_GPS_User_Mnul_V03.doc / 22.06.2010 GeoSIG Ltd GPS User Mnul Pge 7 3. Configurtion nd Checking 3.1. With GSR-xx In order to synchronise GeoSIG GSR-xx with the GPS, pproprite configurtion should be mde in the Instrument. Once power supply, computer nd GPS re connected to the Instrument, such configurtion nd checks cn be performed using GeoDAS nd logging into the Instrument. For more detils bout the GPS options, plese consult GeoDAS nd relevnt Instrument mnuls. At first instlltion or fter mjor (>2 000 km) reloction, it my tke upto 5 minutes for the GPS to correctly compute the exct loction of the ntenn. The following is brief recipe to check whether everything is opertionl in terms of the GPS: On Instrument tb, Grmin GPS option should be ticked s peripherl device s shown on Figure 14. On the Dte nd Time tb, s shown on Figure 15,GPS sttus should red Enbled, if not, press the Enble GPS button. Note tht if GPS is enbled, this button reds Disble GPS. When GPS is synchronised, the dte nd time of the GPS cn be seen in the Dte nd Time tb nd the globl coordintes of the GPS ntenn cn be seen in the Sttion tb, s shown on Figure 16. Figure 14. The following is brief recipe to check whether everything is opertionl in terms of the GPS: While dding the CR-5P under Chnnels of Digitizers, mke sure Externl SYNC Signl is selected s Time source, s shown in Figure 17. After dding the CR-5P to GeoDAS restrt the Softwre nd the Window Sttions: Dt Strem will pper. When GPS is synchronised, the GPS sttus will red Locked to GPS, s shown in Figure 18. The Dt Strem in the Dt Monitor will be in yellow, s shown in Figure 19. Note tht if no GPS is connected, GPS sttus will red No Lock nd the colour of the Dt Strem will be white. Figure 17.
