Harry & Meghan An original Fiona Goble knitting pattern For more patterns including FREE ones, visit www.fionagoble.com

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle If you enjoyed my 2011 book, Knit your own Royal Wedding (still available on Amazon!), I hope you ll love these new additions and want to knit them to complete your woolly royal collection. The 2011 book included Prince William, Kate Middleton and a host of royal relatives, complete with corgi. Here, I ve knitted a more mature and bearded Harry (who was William s Supporter a sort of royal best man at his brother s wedding). And I ve knitted Meghan wearing the lovely dark green dress (albeit a small knitted version) that she wore to announce her engagement back in November 2017. The wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is due to take place on 19 May 2018 at Windsor Castle in England. So get knitting! Fiona Goble, 2018 A few knitting notes A note about sizes Harry is about 23cm (9in) tall and Meghan about 21cm (just under 8½in) tall. A note about yarn quantities When I talk about needing an oddment of a particular yarn shade, I mean around 6m (just under 7yd) at the most. When I talk about a small or very small oddment, it is a seriously small amount and you can usually get an idea when you look at what it s needed for. A note about needle sizes The patterns here are knitted using DK (light worsted) yarn and 3.25mm (US3) knitting needles. If you re knitting them to match figures created from my original book, please use 3mm (US2-3) needles as instructed for the patterns in that book. I ve only used 3.25mm needles here because they correspond better with US needle sizing. Dolls knitted on 3.25mm needles will be ever so slightly larger than those knitted on 3mm needles.

HARRY Equipment 3.25mm (US3) standard knitting needles Needle to sew your work together Large-eyed embroidery needle Stitch holder or spare needle Red colouring pencil Small nylon brush (eg, old toothbrush) Materials DK (light worsted) yarn in the following shades and quantities: Approx. 40m/44yd of pale flesh for the main doll Approx. 42m/46yd of blue/grey for the suit (jacket and trousers) Oddment of orange for the hair Oddment of black for the shoes Oddment of white for shirt insert Very small oddments of black, white and red for the eyes and mouth 2 x tiny grey buttons (about 8mm/just over ¼in diameter) for the suit jacket A 23-cm/9-in length of narrow (about 9mm/slightly less than ⅜in) black ribbon for tie 10-15g (¼-½oz) polyester toy filling DOLL Head The head is knitted from the forehead down to the chin. Stuff and close top of head. Place two body pieces together and seam round sides and top, leaving lower edge open. Stuff and close lower edge. Fold leg piece in half lengthways. Sew arms in place at top of body, just in front of side seams, and legs in place on lower edge of body on outside edge. Sew head in place so it sits slightly forward on top of body piece. To make it secure, you will need to sew along the back of the head and under the chin. Weave in all loose ends. Features and hair Embroider front of hair, beard and moustache in chain stitch, using orange yarn. Dampen hair and brush up with nylon brush. Embroider the nose in chain stitch using pale flesh yarn. Using black yarn, embroider two French knots for the eyes. Using a separated strand of white yarn, work a ring of chain stitch round each French knot. Using red yarn, work two straight stitches in a V-shape for the mouth. Use a red colouring pencil to colour the cheeks. CLOTHES Suit Jacket Main piece Cast on 36 sts in blue/grey. Row 1: K2, p to last 2 sts, k2. Row 2: Knit. Rep rows 1-2, 7 times more. Row 17: K11, turn and work on these sts only, leaving rem sts on needle. Next row: P to last 2 sts, k2. Break yarn and leave sts on spare needle or stitch holder. Work a second trouser leg in exactly the same way but don t break yarn. Next row: K14 sts from second trouser leg than knit 14 sts from first trouser leg. [28 Work 9 rows in st st beg with a p row. Next row: (K1, p1) to end. Rep last row once more. Cast (bind) off fairly loosely, keeping to the k1, p1 pattern. Sew the long seams of the jacket sleeves, then insert the sleeves into the arm holes of the main piece and oversew them from the inside. Sew buttons in place on one side of the jacket the natural holes between stitches on the other side can act as buttonholes. Weave in all loose ends. For the trousers, join the back seam so that the lowest part of the seam is level with the crotch. Then join the two inside leg seams. Weave in all loose ends.

Shirt insert Instead of a complete shirt, I ve made an insert, which is basically a collar and shirt front, to avoid the doll looking too bulky. Main piece Cast on 12 sts in white. Work 16 rows in st st beg with a k row. Collar Cast on 22 sts in white. Work 3 rows in st st beg with a k row. Cast (bind) off kwise. Stitch collar piece to main piece so row ends of collar piece are in the centre of the main piece. Weave in all loose ends. Tie ribbon found neck for tie, once shirt insert is on doll.

Sew pearl beads in place on side of head for earrings and crystal bead in place for ring. Weave in all loose ends. Features Embroider the nose in chain stitch using dark beige yarn. Using black yarn, embroider two French knots for the eyes. Using a separated strand of white yarn, work a ring of chain stitch round each French knot. Using a single separated strand of black yarn, work a few straight stitches at the top of each eye for the eyelashes. Using dusky pink yarn, work two straight stitches in a V-shape for the mouth. Use a pink colouring pencil to colour the cheeks.

Hair Cut 17 x 23-cm/9-in lengths of dark brown yarn and the same number of lengths in black yarn. The hair is sewn to the head using one strand of brown and one strand of black together, fastening the yarn lengths to the doll at the yarn centres. Using brown yarn and backstitch, sew six of the double yarn lengths down the centre of the front of the head, to represent the central parting. The first lengths should be fastened at the centre of the top seam of the head and the final lengths should be fastened about 1cm (⅜in) down the forehead. Sew the remaining double lengths evenly across the top seam of the head, to make the back part of the hair. CLOTHES Dress pieces Cast on 16 sts in dark green. K 2 rows. [8 Turn and work on 4 sts just knitted only, leaving rem sts on needle. Next row: P2tog, p2. [3 Next row: Purl. Next row: K2tog, k1. [2 Next row: P2tog. [1 st] Fasten off. With WS facing, join yarn to rem 4 sts. Next row: P2, p2tog. [3 Next row: Purl. Next row: K1, k2tog. [2 Next row: P2tog. [1 st] Fasten off. Bow Use crochet hook to work a 14-cm (5½-in) crochet chain. Join the two pieces by joining the yarn tails at the tip of the shoulder straps. Sew the side seams, leaving a gap to create armholes. Sew the crochet chain into a bow shape and stitch to the waist of the dress, on one side (Meghan s right side). Weave in all loose ends. Shoes Cast on 22 sts in lavender. Row 5: K5, (k2tog) 3 times, (ssk) 3 times, k5. [16 Fold shoes in half and oversew back seam and sole. Weave in all loose ends.
