Sewing Placemats Use ¼" seam allowance unless otherwise noted. Using template 1, cut one from Ornaments (1137-GRN) and one from Trees (1159-GRN). Ornaments (1137-GRN) will be used for placemat front. Place fusible web paper side up on top of template 2 and trace oval line. Cut out the shape by cutting approximately ½" around exterior line. Tip: To eliminate bulk, cut out center of oval appliqué leaving ½" margin before drawn line. With the wrong side of the fabric facing up, fuse the appliqué in place according to manufacturer s instructions. Cut out appliqué by cutting on the drawn line. Remove paper backing. Repeat above steps using templates 3, 4, and 5. With right side of Ornaments (1137-GRN) (Piece 1) facing up, center appliqué pieces in the following order: 2, 3, 4, and ending with appliqué 5 on top. Fuse pieces in place. With placemat front right side up, pin jumbo rick-rack around outer edges of piece 3. Sew in place by stitching down the center. Machine appliqué around pieces 2, 4, and 5 using a decorative satin stitch or buttonhole/blanket stitch. Stabilizer may be used on back of work to improve stitch quality. Pin rick-rack around outer edges as shown and sew in place. Enlarged view Page 3 of 11

With right sides together, pin placemat front to back. Stitch together leaving a 6" opening for turning as shown. Leave open for turning Clip points and curves and turn to right side. Press and hand stitch opening closed. Pin remaining jumbo rick rack on placemat back around outer edges; stitch in place by sewing down the center of the rick rack. Repeat above steps to make remaining three placemats. Napkins Layer one Square Strip (1139-BLU) 16 ½" square and one Ribbon (1142-RED) 16 ½" square with right sides together and pin. Sew squares together leaving a 6" opening for turning. Leave open for turning Clip corners, turn to right side, and press. Hand stitch opening closed. Top stitch napkin ⅛" from edge around each side. Sew baby rick rack around four sides of napkin ½" from outer edge. Repeat above steps to make remaining three napkins. Page 4 of 11

Napkin Rings Leaving a ½" margin, cut one ornament design from Ornaments (1137-GRN). Cut a 4 ½" x 4 ½" square from the Peltex and Square Strip (1139-BLU) fabric. Following manufacturer s instructions, fuse the Peltex between Ornaments (1137-GRN) and Square Strip (1139-BLU). Cut around shape of ornament motif, keeping all edges even. Using contrasting thread, satin stitch around outside edges of motif. Making the tie: With wrong sides together, fold a 1 ½" x 14" square Square Strip (1139-BLU) strip in half lengthwise and press. Open strip, fold two short ends to wrong side ¼" and press. Fold long edges to center crease and press. Fold in half again lengthwise and press firmly. Stitch close to folded edge and at short ends. Machine tack center tie to center of back of ornament motif. Optional: Sew beads at center front of napkin ring. Tie napkin ring around napkin for decorative display. Repeat steps for three additional napkin rings. Decorating tip: Create a different look by draping placemat over edge of table. Page 5 of 11
