The Patchwork Pipeline Baytown Area Quilt Guild a 501(c)(7) Organization/Social Club http://www.baytownareaquiltguild.com Volume 32, No. 1 January 2016 President s Pen Lisa Struthers January Program Delores Ellis Dear fellow quilters, As we begin 2016, I decided to look back at the goals I set for 2015, some of which were printed in this column in the January 2015 issue of the Patchwork Pipeline. How successful was I in reaching my goals? Did I complete two tops? No, just one. Did I finish quilting a top? No, not completed (and I better get on the ball if it is to be done for our quilt show in May.) I did sort through my old quilting magazines, and through my quilting books, and enjoyed reviewing how quilting has changed in the years since I began a quilting magazine subscription in 1986. I guess I will continue my 2015 goals for 2016. Have you set any quilt-related goals for 2016? I am looking forward to the many great programs that are planned for 2016, and hope to participate in the block of the month and to contributing to the auction for the quilt show, as well as selecting a quilt to hang in the exhibit. I am looking forward to our guild show at Lee College in May. A quilt show takes many hands to be successful, and I hope that all of our members will participate so we will have a successful show. I want to thank the 2016 board for their commitment to leadership in the upcoming year. Without their commitment, we would not have any of the programs or activities that we do have. There are three positions that are still open Treasurer, Hospitality Chair, and Christmas Blocks. If you are willing to take one of these positions, please let me know. I m happy to answer any questions you may have about what the position entails. Without people filling the positions, we will not be able to accomplish all that we would like to accomplish. Continued on Page 2 We will start off the new year with a visit from Margie Lawrence of R-R Retreats in La Grange. She will bring some wonderful quilts she owns because of her participation in Round Robin groups. Margie will speak on organizing and managing a successful group as well as the pitfalls to be avoided. Join the guild for an entertaining and informative program. Donation Quilt Tickets 2016 Linda McPike I will have the Members Donation Quilt Tickets ready to pick up at each Guild Meeting. Please come and see me to pick up your tickets. Thank you! Page 2 BAQG General Meeting Minutes December 2015 Secretary - Lisa Joiner Prayer Opened with a prayer before enjoying our traditional potluck dinner. The December meeting of the Baytown Area Quilt Guild was opened at 7:15 p.m. President, Lisa Struthers, welcomed everyone. She acknowledged the Hospitality Committee and December birthdays. Quilt Show Report for Tracy Williams There will be a Lee College tour on January 25, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The January newsletter will have more information regarding the quilt show scheduled in May. Lisa Struthers was presented with her President s quilt and thanked for her service to the guild for 2015. Lisa thanked the officers and committee chair persons for their commitment and service to the Baytown Area Quilt Guild. Lee Ann Adams did the installation of new officers for the year 2016. Block of the Month Sally Fricke and Becky Trigg presented the first block of the month for January. They will have a display board each month with the block displayed and instructions as well as putting the block in the monthly newsletter. Sally and Becky encouraged everyone to participate. The ladies have put a lot of thought, planning and work into organizing our Block of the Month. Christmas Quilts Karen Elizondo Karen had all of the Christmas tops displayed for all members to see and enjoy. There were 12 beautiful Christmas quilt tops turned in for the drawing. The following members participated and won in this order a Christmas quilt top: Vickie Ewell, Carol McBeth, Barb Woods, Kathy Oian, Ann Hankamer, LaVerne Henderson, Dennis Oian, Karen Elizondo, Jayne Clifton, Linda McPike, Sue Jenkins and Susan Baggett. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. President s Pen Lisa Struthers Continued from page 1 We also need an Audit Committee of three persons who are not board members/were not board members in 2015, to take a look at the 2015 books. With organized guild records, a guild audit can be a simple undertaking that lasts no more than 1 to 2 hours. A yearly audit is a key safeguard for the guild s money and a planning tool for the year ahead, a kind of "year in review" for the guild finances. The audit will include a review of adhering to the current year s budget, which can be a strong planning tool for setting next year s budget. If you are willing to serve on the Audit Committee, please let me know. I look forward to seeing each of you at our January meeting, and look forward to a fun year for Baytown Area Quilt guild.
