This report provides a micro community profile of Mecklenburg County. The Virginia Micro Profile Community Report is created to provide information in the form of data and graphs for all the census block groups in Mecklenburg County. I. Introduction Micro Profiles are a series of publications produced by the Economic Information & Analytics (EIA) Division of the Virginia Employment Commission. These publications, which provide data at the block group level, are designed to complement the Community Profiles that provide data at the county and city level. A Census Block Group is a geographical unit used by the United States Census Bureau which is between the Census Tract and the Census Block. It is the smallest geographical unit for which the Bureau publishes sample data, i.e. data which is only collected from a fraction of all households. Data has been retrieved from the American Community Survey (ACS) website. Because these are a small area sample, the data are averaged for five years to be statistically reliable. The data are produced annually, so the five-year data becomes a moving average, and trends between years can be analyzed. The Micro Profiles take advantage of the ACS data available from the U.S.Census Bureau for geographic areas below the county and city levels. Population and Population Density Table Population is by place of residence, and is an average of total population over a five year period using the data from the US Census Bureau American Community Survey(ACS) survey tabulation. Population Density is the total population of that area divided by land area. This adjusts (nomalizes) for block groups that have large land areas, but sparse populations. Since towns are concentrations of persons, the highest population densities occur in the towns. The below table shows the statistics of Population and Population Density of all the Census Tract in the Mecklenburg County. Each individual Census Tract is a hyperlink, which when clicked will depict the graphical representation of Population and Population Density of all the block groups in the selected Census Tract of Mecklenburg County.
