Minutes Lions Gate Quilters Guild Annual General Meeting February 24, 2015 Location: St. Andrew s and St. Stephen s Church 27 th & Chesterfield, North Vancouver, B.C. President: Betty Clarke Secretary: Paulette Morton 1. PRESIDENT S WELCOME AND OPENING REMARKS The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. Betty Clarke requested a MOTION from the floor to approve the minutes of the 2014 AGM held on February 25 th as distributed by our Newspaper Editor on February 10, 2015. Moved by Rosalind Knight. Seconded by Anita Jones- Gould. CARRIED. 2. ANNOUNCEMENTS The Fraser Valley Quilters Guild joined us this evening and brought with them for display two quilts for raffle. Both stunning with the use of color with black. Tickets were available for sale at $ 1.00 each during our break. There was a free table set up with a reminder to take home any items that had been brought with you. Show and Tell has been cancelled this evening to allow sufficient time for the program after our AGM. Community Quilts Committee will be acknowledged during the June meeting. 3. CORRESPONDENCE A Certificate of Appreciation and thank you was sent to us from the Lookout North Shore Shelter for the quilts donated.

4. COMMITTEE REPORTS Will include some MOTIONS. Programs Rita Douglas Rita Solkin is the presenter this evening. She brought with her a large and very varied collection of antique quilts dating back to 1830. March Robin Fischer on beading and dying traditional and art quilts. April - Pippa Moore Improvisational modern quilting techniques. May Krista Hennebury will be giving instruction and a talk on Little Projects. As well she will have copies of her book just now available to purchase. June will still be our year end social with a focus on Community Quilts. Treasurer Suzanne Patchell A short review of our finances: the deficit and the change in our insurance costs. Requested a MOTION from the floor to approve the 2014/15 LGQG Financial Statement as distributed earlier and presented at the February 2015 AGM. Moved by Joan Gold. Seconded by Bena Luxton. CARRIED. Requested a MOTION from the floor to approve the 2015/16 LGQG Budget as distributed earlier and presented at the February 2015 AGM. Moved by Margo Novak. Seconded by Linda Heese. CARRIED. Workshops Anne Pelton We have three more workshops coming up this spring with space in two. March The Mola Appliqué with Shirley Prakke at St. Catherine s on April 26 th is full with two on the wait list. April Twist and Turn Bargello with Eileen Wright. The cost of this two day event is $ 110.00. May - Susan Purney Mark s Shattered Angles based on her book Accent on Angles takes place on May 23 rd ; the cost $ 65.00. Anne hung up 4 samples of the above two techniques and was accepting registrations this evening. She announced that Rosalind Knight had donated a copy of Twist and Turn Bargello and that all registrants would be eligible to win a draw to take place later in the evening.

Quilt Retreat Betty Clarke Will be taking place this week at Edenvale Retreat Centre in Aldergrove. Registration is full Three Motions were requested from the floor to make changes to the Lions Gate Quilts Society constitution. 3. General Policies changes to read as: For the protection of board members, members in general and the guild s considerable assets, we shall retain appropriate liability insurance. Moved by Tanith Laughton. Seconded by Terry Grusendorf. CARRIED 3. General Policies k. Membership: changes to read as: Membership year will be from March 1 to the last day of February of the following year. Moved by Katherine Morgan. Seconded by Dianne Ritter. CARRIED 3. General Policies k. Membership: changes to read as: New memberships will be prorated as follows: 1. March to June full annual fee and 2. September to February half annual fee. Moved by Rose Moore. Seconded by Robbie Thomas. CARRIED Library Sonia Milanez & Joan Gold Showed 10 new books that were purchased or donated to our library. An unusual variety of subjects that included modern, celtic, scraps and working with neutrals. It seemed that most were signed out by the end of this meeting. Community Quilts Anita Jones-Gould MOTION requested from the floor to approve the 2014 Community Quilts Financial Statement as earlier distributed and presented at the February 2015 AGM. Moved by Carol Piercy. Seconded by Bena Luxton. CARRIED. Motion requested from the floor to approve the 2015/16 Community Quilts Budget as earlier distributed and presented at the February 2015 AGM. Moved by Joan Gold. Seconded by Rosalind Knight Reminder to all that our Community Quilts weekend is coming up next weekend on March 5 th, 6 th and 7 th at this location. A donation of 6 boxes of fabric that included many large pieces was received from Cathy Dixon.

Anita put out a request for two volunteers to make coffee and tea Friday and Saturday. Myra Frampton offered to do so on Friday and Joanne Salmon on Saturday. Motions requested from the floor to approve changes to the Lions Gate Community Quilts Society Constitution to coincide to the guild constitution. Under the heading - Policies 1. changes to read as: For the protection of board members, members in general and the Society s assets, Lions Gate Quilters Guild shall retain appropriate liability insurance. Moved by Karen Marshall. Seconded by Terry Grusendorf. CARRIED Policies 4. changes to read as: Society membership is concurrent with the Lions Gate Quilters Guild Membership and there will be no extra fees for this membership. Membership year will be from March 1 to the last day of February of the following year. Moved by Susan Lum. Seconded by Hattie Hunter. CARRIED Membership Joan Herrin 75 guild members signed in, 1 new member and 1 guest. Our membership cards will be available next month for distribution. The updated phone list will be emailed. The winners of this evening s door prize were: Dianne Ritter and Paula Wohlgemuth. 5. Elections - Debbie Barrett Vice President - Volunteers have stepped forward for 4 of the 5 executive positions. - Debbie s 1 st, 2 nd and 3 rd call for a nomination for the position of President received no response. - She then explained to the member s the steps involved in the dissolution of the guild. - Betty Clarke said that we would take five days. - The following were declared elected by acclamation: President position not filled Secretary - Paulette Morton (returning for a second term) Member-at-Large Becky West Membership Joan Herrin (returning for a second term) Workshops Jane Andrew The new executive for 2015/2016 was presented on stage. ADJOURNMENT: MOTION Betty Clarke requested a MOTION from the floor to adjourn the business portion of the 2015 Annual General Meeting. Moved by Brenda Sangster. Seconded by Isabelle Jenkins. CARRIED.

6. Acknowledgements: Debbie Barrett - Acknowledgements and thank you to outgoing Executive members for serving on the LGQG Executive over the past several years. They are and were presented with a potted orchid. Program: Rita Solkin s collection of antique quilts with an example from every decade since 1830 showed the fabrics, colors, patterns, embroidery stitches and techniques of the individual artists and era. For example the use of fabrics in cigarette packaging, printed cotton floor sacks, silk squares folded in half and stitched with a herring bone. The 50/50 total was $ 87.00 with Terry Grusendorf the winner of $ 43.50.
