XF Game Description Instructions & Help File The Classroom Quiz Show XF game is fun, engaging and there are many different ways to play. Pictured below you'll see the main game screen. We'd like to take a moment to review how your TGI XF game is operated from this screen. On the top left of the screen (pictured above) you'll see a red MENU button. Clicking on the MENU button provides you with the below drop down selections. Page 1

After setting up your Classroom Quiz you'll move to the main game screen (shown above) and select Start New Game from this menu. Many of major game screens (orange buttons) can be quickly reached from this menu. The Setup screen can be accessed here, and a complete explanation of all the Setup features are explained in the Setup section of this file. Click the Game Rules to review general game rules with your class participants. You may have setup some more specific game features, such as different scoring options that you will also want to explain to your class participants. The Chalkboard, for writing classroom notes and follow up questions, as well as a game host selection screen are also found on this menu and are pictured below. Page 2

The Yellow buttons pictured above will take you to special game screens such as the Questions Database. This is, of course, where you will input your game questions. Click on this button to move to the Questions Database. Here you can also review the Questions Database help file for all of it's various input, import and question distribution functions. Below you'll see pictured a screen to Add/Change your organizations logo. The logo (GIF or JPG file formats) will appear on the main game screen. Note - Your can also import a GIF image file into this screen to change the face of your host. We've placed two samples GIFs on the below screen. Clicking on the Single User Database will bring you to information about the single games played to date. In this way you can setup a teaching game and see how well your students did playing against the computer. The database records the number and percentage of correct answers as well as the specific questions that players missed. You can also input Team and Player Names from this menu as well as from the games Setup screen. The last of the above yellow menu buttons brings you to this game help file. The green buttons on this menu provide some helpful game functions. These include, Full Screen Restore, Adjusting Game Volume and Adjusting Game Scores. We wanted you to be able to adjust scores just in case an answer recorded as WRONG turns out to be RIGHT or partially right (shown below left). Finally the last three green buttons allow you to manually end a game, run a tie score breaker, which chooses the winning team or player randomly and EXIT the game. Page 3

Let's Play (Team Play) Let's imagine we've clicked on the Start New Game button. A screen pops up to inform us which team will start. Note: If we are playing in Fast Response mode it simply messages all teams to get ready for the first question. If we are playing the game with teams taking turns (Team Rotation), our initial game screen will look like this one (below). Note that in this example the team that is up, will select a category from (3) possible categories. The game can also be set to allow an opposing team to pick the question category for the answering team. In addition the game can include player names if you wish, and will inform you how many questions remain in each category as well as the average point value for the category. The next screen to appear could be the question screen which is depicted below. Keep in mind we are showing you one of several screen sequences available. Things to point out on this screen include the fact that the game will display multiple choice, True/False and single word answer questions. The grey buttons below are game options: Pass (question is passed to the next team up), Lose 1 (removes one incorrect answer), Double (Doubles question's point value), Mystery (awards a random point value within a set range) and Mini-Game (Plays a game within a game to potential multiply the point value). These options are set on the Setup screen, and we provide more information about each in the Setup section of this document. The below yellow buttons appear when there is a text, sound, graphic or other files attached to the specific question Page 4

Below see an example of an attached graphic and text file. These are easily attached to a question in the Questions Database. Also note that the attached graphic is a slide from a PowerPoint presentation. You can actually attach an entire PowerPoint presentation (PPS) to a question if you like. More about attaching additional information to questions in the XF section of this document. Attached graphic above, attached additional text information below. Finally after selecting an answer and are taken to the answer screen shown below. Page 5

We now can see if the team or player's answer was correct and please note that the attached information (graphic/text) remains available for the teacher to reference. In addition to graphics and text information you can also attach sound files (WAV) as well as other files like movies, flash and even a PowerPoint Shows (PPS). If we had chosen to play in Fast Response mode the below screen would have first appeared. Teams read the question and signal that they have the answer. Eight teams or players can play in fast response mode. Using a USB or free standing buzzer system players can simply "buzz in". If you don't have a buzzer system teams can manually indicate they know the answer in a variety of different ways (Call out, A raised hand, ring a bell, or use other noise makers). Then the facilitator would simply press the "first in" teams button on screen. A random team selector presents yet another way to select a team from this screen. Teams and players can also use a Jeopardy style game format to select questions. We call this game Peril. It plays using the first 18 questions in the game (shown below). Page 6

Single Player Games There are also two single player game formats available. The first pits a player against the computer. You can determine how great a challenge you want from the computer by adjusting the computer's correct answer percentage (Setup). Another single player format plays a bit like the Millionaire game, in which you continue to answer questions for greater point values until you get an answer wrong. We call this game All the Way and the game board is pictured below. There is also a single player database, which will record single player scores, percentage correct, and detail the specific questions that players are missing. Finally at the end of each single player game a Top Ten Scorer list is displayed. There are actually 15 different game figurations which you can play using the Classroom Quiz Show XF game. XF stands for extra features, and we provide you with a detailed and complete review of all of the game features within the XF section of this document. You will also learn more about the different Team and single player game formats available to you. Finally, within the XF section we further explain how to attach additional text, sounds, graphics and other file types to your questions. Within the Setup section of this help file we provide you with facilitator instructions for setting up your Classroom Quiz Show to best complement your teaching program. We've provided a wide range of setup options which enable you to play this game many times throughout your program and never play the same game twice. Peril and All The Way (ATW) game formats require special point configuration and we've included a section to explain exactly how these configurations can be quickly input in order to play. Finally there is a special teacher section of this document in which we've included some tips for teachers to maximize the teaching potential of your TGI XF game. Page 7

XF Program Features Instructions & Help File At Training Games we are introducing a new and innovative product line we called XF products. The XF stands for extra Features. These products are loaded with unique and valuable game and teaching features which engage class participants and enhance learning. The below XF features are found in most of our XF games. On occasion we must exclude features which are not compatible with the scoring or play of the particular game. Here is a XF feature recap: Team Play Features: 1.) Team play features up to 8 teams with as many as 20 players/team. 2.) XF team games can be set to be play with many different options and question delivery choices. In addition there are two distinctly different team game formats we call our Quiz Show and Peril games. The Quiz Show Format allows the answering team to first select a question category from 3 categories before answering. Alternatively. this game can be played by having an opposing team select the question category for the team that is up. In this way we ensure more player involvement on each and every question. Peril, is a jeopardy style team game. "I'll take Leadership for $600". 3.) Team games can be played in Normal or Fast Response mode. Fast Response means the team that answers first gets the question. The XF games work with USB Buzzer Systems or manually (i.e. teams ring a bell or raise their hands to signal they have the answer). 4.) There is even a Random Team Selector built into the game for yet another way to select a team to answer. Single Player Features: 1.) Single player games include "You against the Computer" in which you first determine the percentage of questions that your computer opponent will answer correctly and a Millionaire style game called "All The Way". In this game you play for ever increasing score values with the game ending only when you answer incorrectly. 2.) Single player games display the "TOP TEN" player scores at the end of each single player game. A great way to have participants compete and learn. 3.) In addition, a single player database records individual scores, No. of correct and incorrect answers as well as the specific questions individual players missed. The database can be extracted and easily e-mailed to a central location for review. All in all TGI XF games have up to 15 different game configurations and ways to play so students may never see the same game twice. Page 8

Question Features: TGI XF games provide you with several innovative ways to input, save and distribute questions within the game. A special HELP file is found within the Questions Database itself to provide you specific instructions for inputting questions. We've listed some additional XF game question features found throughout the game below: 1.) Handles Multiple Choice (A,B,C, & D answers), True/False or Fill-in the blank type questions. 2.) Questions can be presented in sequential or non-repeating random order. 3.) Import questions from a separate file OR enter/edit your questions directly into the game. 4.) Question font size can be increased within the game for greater visibility or decreased to accommodate lengthy questions. 5.) The number of questions remaining in the game is displayed on the scoreboard as well as on other question/category selection screens. 6.) Question Categories disappear when all the questions in the category have been used. 7.) The game automatically ends when all game questions have been used (or when pre-set game time has expired). 8.) TGI XF games contain a built in pre-work and follow-up review file. This is a game within a game delivering teaching questions which can be e-mailed to participants as a pre-teaching exercises or post-teaching review (Located within the Questions Database File). Adding Sound, Text and Graphics to Individual Questions: 1.) Additional Graphic. This is the ability to attach an external graphic image to any question, adding visuals to your question presentation. This affords the teacher many different display options (Charts, tables, pictures) and also allows the instructor to expound on the question, and the learner to more clearly understand the information being presented. Note: PowerPoint allows you to save entire presentations as individual slides in the below listed formats, and attached these to questions as needed. Image formats include GIF / JPG / BMP / EMF or WMF. 2.) Additional Sounds. This is the ability to attach an external sound file to any question. This can be your voice or music. The XF games also feature a sound recorder (Questions Database). Using a computer microphone you can record, create and attach WAV files to any of your game questions. 3.) Additional Text. This is the ability to attach additional text to a question which can be popped up over the question. This is perfect for inserting an exercise, a comment, a hint, an explanation or reference information. Text can be typed directly into the Question database located in the game. This text box display will also allow you to scroll down when reading large text entries. Page 9

4.) Additional File. This is the best of all of these features. With this option you can attach an external file of any type to a question. Exceptions: File type must be supported by your computer and cannot be another MS Excel file. Examples of the types of files which can be used are multi-media files like movies (AVI), MPEG, or MP3 files. Also a PowerPoint file saved as a Slideshow (PPS) will slip seamlessly into your game making it an easy way to present teaching material to your group from inside the structure of a game. The same game can be used for review afterwards to reinforce the learning. 5.) Additional sounds, text, graphic and file buttons appear with the question during game play and can be used to present additional information before or after the question is answered. Button labels may also be changed (For example, you might create a HINT, or More Info button). Change button labels on the Setup screen. Important Note: You might well wonder why we have gone to great lengths to provide a means to inject additional information in the form of sound, text, graphics and other files types into the middle of a game. We known that TGI games do a great job when it comes to grabbing the learners attention. People are intensely engaged as they play. This is of course the first thing you want to do when instructing; focus the learners attention. Now with your learners interested and engaged in what's being said, there's no better time to build on this interest. When learners start to conceptualize, mull over, and think about information, they begin to assimilate and consolidate the leaning into their knowledge base. In this way training games become more than just effective review tools, but can be used to deliver core course content. Scoring and Game Strategy Options These are options that add strategy and fun into each game. We've provide a full array of options which can be easily added into or removed from your teaching game (Setup screen). 1.) Pass Option: This is the ability for a team to pass the question to the next team. This is not available in the single player game. 2.) Lose 1 Option: This option will allow the team with the question to have the computer eliminate one wrong answer from any multiple choice questions that have more than three possible answers. 3.) Double Option: This option will allow the team answering the question to double the points value for this question. 4.) Mystery Score Option: This option will allow the answering team to elect to play for a random point value for the current question. The minimum and maximum possible point values are set on the Game's Setup screen (From Min. 1 to Max 99). 5.) Mini-Game Option: This option will allow the team with the question to play a mini-game and increase the questions overall point value. There are six possible mini-games which can be displayed and are shown at random. Mini-games work as point multipliers, the better the mini-game is played - the higher the point multiplier (up to 6X). For example, Solving a mini-game on the first try will multiply the questions point value by 6. So a question originally worth 5 pts. Is now worth 30! Page 10

6.) Allow Minus Scoring: This option will allow points to be deducted for incorrect answers. Typically team/players are not penalized for incorrect answers. All the above options can be selected to appear in a game on the setup screen and at the teacher's discretion. Program Options found in XF Games The Program MENU button located in the top left corner of the screen has many different functions. 1.) The "Go to " navigation will allow you to move to various game screens. 2.) The "Adjust Sounds" buttons will let you adjust the volume level of the computer sounds. 3.) The "Adjust Scores" button opens a pop-up that allows you to adjust the scores on the scoreboard (a great "just in case" feature) 4.) The "Manual End of Game" button forces the game to end. This is a great option if your game is running long and you need to wrap it up to stay on schedule. 5.) "Restore Full Screen" maximizes the full screen size for game play. 6.) The "Tie Breaker" is available to help decide tied games. Game Customizing Features: 1.) Name Your Game: On the Setup screen you can enter a game name to coincide with your classroom instruction. 2.) Team Player Names: Enter team and player names that will appear on the scoreboard and on question game screens. 3.) Organization Logo: On the Setup screen enter your organizations logo. Use GIF or JPG formats. 4.) Scoring Labels: Scoring can be recorded in Points, Dollars, Pounds or Euros 5.) Question Categories: Within the Questions Database you can input up to three program or question categories (Default categories are Easy, Medium, and Hard). Sound Features: 1.) Great Game sounds (The good, the bad, and the ugly) 2.) Program start and Intermission music on main game screen 3.) Wait sound - As in "I need your answer NOW!" Game Time Features: 1.) Game timer can be set from OFF to up to 4 hours of game play. 2.) Game automatically ends when pre-set time has expired (or game runs out of questions). 3.) 5 minute overtime feature - Use this for tied scores or if your group just doesn't want the game to end! One Final Feature Note: 1.) On the main screen of the game we've placed a chalkboard/flipchart. Here you can enter questions and notes that come up during your class. A scroll (down) bar is automatically available should you fill the screen with notes. In addition, you can copy and send notes to class or meeting participants. Page 11

XF Setup Description Instructions & Help File The Setup for the XF games has been organized for your easy use and understanding. The Setup pop-up has been divided into (4) different areas and unavailable choices will "grey out". The Setup is structured as follows: 1.) General Options Area - apply to all games. 2.) Team Options Area - apply to only a team game. 3.) Single Options Area - apply only to a single game. 4.) Current Sequence Area - shows selected game screen sequence. This setup pop-up has many options to give you complete control over the gae being presented to your class. It also gives you control over how teaching materials are presented. There are actually 15 different game formats available to instructors. The options areas shown above are highlighted in red when in use. Let's review the options by area to see what you can do with your new XF Teaching Game. The first choice you'll want to make is to select either Team OR Single Play. When you do the other options that don't apply will be disabled. This is to make it easier for you to see exactly what options need to be set. Page 12

GENERAL OPTIONS AREA General Options apply to both team and single player games. In this area you begin by entering a special game name to appear on the scoreboard. Set the game timer from OFF to 4 hours. Toggle the game sounds on or off. Select how your questions are presented during the game. Sequential, in the order they were entered, or Random (non - repeating). Add or change your logo on the game screen (GIF or JPG file format). Access the Questions Database. (The Questions Database is where you'll enter your game questions. A separate help file is found within the Questions Database itself). You can even change the button labels that appear on the Questions and Answer pop-ups and launch attached sounds, graphics or other file types. For example, you may create a HINT button or a More Info button to appear with various questions. TEAM OPTIONS AREA When you select Team Play the adjacent area needs to be completed to set your game configuration. The Game & Scoring Options can be turned on or off by checking or unchecking the boxes; and the number of options available for each team needs to be typed into the box to the right of the options. The # of Scoring options represents the cumulative number of times each team will have an opportunity to use the selected scoring options within one game. For the Mystery Score enter a minimum and maximum range from 1-99. When used in a game a random score from within this range is selected and becomes the point value for the given question. Note about the Mini-Game option. This is a point multiplier. Points, when this option is used, can be multiplied from 1 to 6 times depending upon how well the mini-game was played. For example, if the team solved the mini-game in just two tries (original 10 pt. question), the original point total for the question would be multiplied by (5) (10 X 5 = 50 points). Page 13

You can also select whether or not to allow minus scoring during the game. Minus scoring means a team loses points for giving an incorrect answer. If not checked, the team will receive zero points for answering incorrectly. The "Team and Player Names" button allows you to enter team and player names into the game. Remember to also enter the number of teams playing in the team options areas. You can enter from 2 to 8 teams with up to 20 players on each team. Below this you'll see a box displaying the average # of questions each team will receive during a game. Now select either Team Rotation or Fastest Response in the "Who Gets the Question" box.. Team Rotation gives the question to each team sequentially or in turn while Fast Response awards the question to the first team or player to respond. This XF game supports most USB buzzer systems, however you may also play using a manual response method (For example, raising hands, or ringing a bell). The "Type of Game" box allows you to select from a Quiz Show format or a Jeopardy style game we've called Peril. Now select who will choose the question category. Your choices include, the computer, the team that is up, or an opposing Team. We recommend having the opposing team select the category because this tends to involve more players throughout the course of the game. SINGLE OPTION AREA The Single Game options apply only if "Single Play" is selected. Click the Single User Database button to access the Single User Database. This is a DB record of single user games. It contains player scores, # and percent correct as well as specifying which questions were answered incorrectly. Single players can compete against the computer and each other as they learn. There are 2 single game formats. "Play against the Computer" delivers questions to single players, and then indicate whether or not their computer opponent got the answer correct. Players can challenge themselves by increasing the "% Computer Correct" number. The All The Way option is a Millionaire type game. See the setup instructions for the All The Way and Peril game located in this document. Page 14

CURRENT SEQUENCE AREA As you make your selections on the Setup screen the Current Sequence area will show you the flow of screen pop-ups which will appear during game play. When done, press the CLOSE button. A pop-up will remind you that many of these options when changed will affect game play and ask if you want to start a new game. If any changes are made to the Setup - it is always a good idea to start a new game. Depending upon the changes, returning to an existing game could cause an error. Also if the Game Timer is not set, the setup pop-up will not close until a time is set. This happens most often just after using the 5 minute overtime option. Contact gary@training-games.com for further questions on the setup screen and other XF game feature information. Setting Music for Questions In the Game Sounds area is a Music button. This button controls if and what music is played when a question is first displayed. To use this feature make sure the Game Sounds are turned on first and then press the Music button. From the Music Setup, you can select to have no music play or choose from 3 different 30 second pieces. Press the Hear Music buttons to hear the tracks. Page 15

XF Game Peril Option Instructions & Help File The Peril option gives a Jeopardy style interface for selecting a category and question. There are several setup adjustments that MUST be done to play.
