MO0907-EB Operation Guide 709 713 Getting Acquainted Congratuations upon your seection of this CASO watch. To get the most out of your purchase, be sure to read this manua carefuy. Expose the watch to bright ight to charge its battery before using it. You can use this watch even as its battery is being charged by exposure to bright ight. Be sure to read Power Suppy of this manua for important information you need to know when exposing the watch to bright ight. Keep the watch exposed to bright ight The eectricity generated by the soar ce of the watch is Bright Light stored by a buit-in battery. Leaving or using the watch where it is not exposed to ight causes the battery to run down. Make sure the watch is exposed to ight as much as possibe. Soar ce When you are not wearing the watch on your wrist, position the face so it is pointed at a source of bright ight. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is ony partiay covered. The watch continues to operate, even when it is not exposed to ight. Leaving the watch in the dark can cause the battery to run down, which wi resut in some watch functions to be disabed. f the battery goes dead, you wi have to re-configure watch settings after recharging. Supported time caibration signas: Germany (Mainfingen), Engand (Anthorn), United States (Fort Coins), Japan. Date Current Time Setting Day of week This watch adjusts its time setting automaticay in accordance with a time caibration signa. You can aso perform a manua procedure to set the time and date, when necessary. The first thing you shoud do after purchasing this watch is to specify your Home Time Zone, which is the time zone where you normay wi use the watch. For more information, see To specify your Home Time Zone. When using the watch outside the areas covered by the time signa transmitters, you wi have to adjust the current time setting manuay as required. See for more information about manua time settings. The U.S. time caibration signa can be picked up by the watch whie in North America. The term North America in this manua refers to the area that consists of Canada, the continenta United States, and Mexico. The anaog time of this watch is synchronized with the digita time. Because of this, the anaog time setting is automaticay adjusted whenever you change the digita setting. See Anaog for more information. Press C to seect the time zone you want to use as your Home Time Zone. Time caibration signa reception is supported when any one of the time zones shown in the tabe beow is seected as your Time Zone. Normay, your watch shoud show the correct time as soon as you seect your Home Time Zone. f it does not, it shoud adjust automaticay after the next auto receive operation (in the midde of the night). You can aso perform manua receive or you can set the time manuay. The watch wi receive the time caibration signa automaticay from the appicabe transmitter (in the midde of the night) and update its settings accordingy. Under factory defaut settings, auto receive is turned off for a of the foowing time zones :, UTC 10, and UTC 9. Time Caibration Signa Reception There are two different methods you can use to receive the time caibration signa: auto receive and manua receive. Auto Receive With auto receive, the watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. For more information, see About Auto Receive. Manua Receive Manua receive ets you start a time caibration receive operation with the press of a button. For more information, see To perform manua receive. 1

Operation Guide 709 713 mportant! When getting ready to receive the time caibration signa, position the watch as shown in the nearby iustration, with its 12 o cock side facing towards a window. This watch is designed to receive a time caibration signa ate at night. Because of this, you shoud pace the watch near a window as shown in the iustration when you take it off at night. Make sure there are no meta objects nearby. 12 o cock Make sure the watch is facing the right way. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to seven minutes, but in some cases it can take as ong as 1 minutes. Take care that you do not perform any button operations or move the watch during this time. The time caibration signa the watch wi attempt to pick up depends on its current Home Time Zone setting as shown beow. f you use the watch in Japan or Europe (each of which has two different transmitter ocations), it wi try to receive the time caibration signa from one of the transmitters in your current ocation. f it cannot receive the signa, it wi then try to receive the time caibration signa from the other transmitter. Signa reception is affected by weather, atmospheric conditions, and seasona changes. See the information under Signa Reception Troubeshooting if you experience probems with time caibration signa reception. About Auto Receive The watch receives the time caibration signa automaticay up to six times a day. When any auto receive is successfu, the remaining auto receive operations are not performed. The reception schedue (caibration times) depends on your currenty seected Home Time Zone, and whether standard time or Dayight Saving Time is seected for your Home Time Zone. Reception is not performed if a caibration time is reached whie you are configuring settings. Auto receive of the caibration signa is designed to be performed eary in the morning, whie you seep (provided that the Mode time is set correcty). Before going to bed for the night, remove the watch from your wrist, and put it in a ocation where it can receive the signa easiy. The watch receives the caibration signa for two to 1 minutes everyday when the time in the Mode reaches each of the caibration times. Avoid performing any button operation within five minutes before or after any one of the caibration times. Doing so can interfere with correct caibration. Remember that reception of the caibration signa depends on the current time in the Mode. The receive operation wi be performed whenever the dispay shows any one of the caibration times, regardess of whether or not the dispayed time actuay is the correct time. About the Receiving ndicator During signa reception, the receiving indicator shows the strength of the caibration signa being received. For best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a ocation where signa strength is strongest. Receiving indicator Weak (Leve 0) Strong (Leve 3) Use the receiving indicator as a guide for checking signa strength and for finding the best ocation for the watch during signa receive operations. Even in an area where signa strength is strong, it takes about 10 seconds for signa reception to stabiize enough for the receiving indicator to indicate signa strength. Transmitter ndicator To perform manua receive Receiving Transmitter indicator Receive successfu Receive date Receive faied During signa reception, an indicator of the transmitter whose signa the watch is attempting to receive wi fash. After signa reception is compete, the indicator of the transmitter from which the signa was received wi remain on, without fashing. JP0: Fukushima (Japan) JP60: Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) US60: Fort Coins, Coorado (the United States) GE77.5: Mainfingen (Germany) UK60: Anthorn (Engand) The transmitter indicator turns off automaticay at the start of the first auto receive operation of a new day. The time of the first auto receive operation of a new day depends on your currenty seected Home Time Zone. 1. Enter the Mode or dispay the ast signa screen. 2. Pace the watch on a stabe surface so its 12 o cock side is facing towards a window. 3. Hod down C for about two seconds unti the watch beeps.. After you reease C the dispay wi show the etters RC. This indicates that signa reception is in progress. The indicator of the transmitter whose signa the watch is attempting to receive wi fash. Time caibration signa reception takes from two to 1 minutes. Take care that you do not press C or move the watch during this time. f the receive operation is successfu, the reception date and time appear on the dispay. The indicator of the transmitter whose signa the watch received wi aso be indicated. The watch wi enter the Mode if you press C or if you do not perform any button operation for about one or two minutes. f the current reception fais, the dispay shows the ERR indicator. The watch wi enter the Mode without changing the time setting if you press C or if you do not perform any button operation for about one or two minutes. 2

Operation Guide 709 713 To turn auto receive on and off 1. Press B to dispay the Last Signa screen. 2. Hod down A so the current auto receive setting (R/C on or R/C OF) is fashing. This is the Though iumination wi aso turn on when you press A, keep the button hed down unti R/C on or R/C OF fashes. On/Off status that the setting screen wi not appear if the currenty seected Home Time Zone is one that does not support time caibration reception. 3. Press C to togge auto receive on (on) and off (OF). For information about time zones that support signa receive, see To specify your Home Time Zone. To check the atest signa reception resuts Receive date Press B to dispay the Last Signa screen. The dispay shows the time and date that receive was successfu. - - : - - indicates that none of the reception operations were successfu. To return to the Mode, press B. Receive time Signa Reception Troubeshooting Check the foowing points whenever you experience probems with signa reception. Probem Cannot perform manua receive. Time setting is incorrect foowing signa reception. Probabe Cause The watch is not in the Mode. Your current Home Time Zone is not one of the foowing:,,,, UTC +9, UTC 10, UTC 9, UTC 8, UTC 7, UTC 6, or UTC 5 ( DST ON :,, UTC +3,, 0, UTC 9, UTC 8, UTC 7, UTC 6, UTC 5, or UTC ) f the time is one hour off, the DST setting may be incorrect. The Home Time Zone setting is not correct for the area where you are using the watch. What you shoud do Enter the Mode and try again. Seect,, UTC +2,,, UTC 10, UTC 9, UTC 8, UTC 7, UTC 6, or UTC 5 ( DST ON :,, UTC +3,, 0, UTC 9, UTC 8, UTC 7, UTC 6, UTC 5, or UTC ) as your Home Time Zone. Change the DST setting to Auto DST. Seect the correct Home Time Zone. For further information, see mportant! under Time Caibration Signa Reception and Radio-controed Atomic Precautions. Dua Time Current time in seected time zone The Dua Time Mode shows you the current time in 29 time zones around the word. f the current time shown for a time zone is wrong, check your Home Time Zone time settings and make the necessary changes. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Dua Time Mode, which you enter by pressing B. To view the time in another Time Zone 1. n the Dua Time Mode, press C to dispay the UTC differentia vaue of the currenty seected time zone for about two seconds. 2. To change the UTC differentia vaue, press C whie a UTC differentia vaue is on the dispay to scro eastward through time zones. that if you do not press C to scro within two seconds after dispaying a UTC differentia vaue, the dispay wi change automaticay to the current time based on the currenty dispayed UTC differentia vaue. 3. When the UTC differentia vaue you want is on the dispay, do not perform any button operation for about two seconds. This wi cause the current time to appear, which wi be based on the UTC differentia vaue you seected. To togge a time zone time between and Dayight Saving Time 1. n the Dua Time Mode, use C to dispay the time zone DST indicator whose /Dayight Saving Time setting you want to change. 2. Hod down A to togge Dayight Saving Time (DST indicator dispayed) and (DST indicator not dispayed). Turning on DST causes the UTC differentia vaue to be increased by one. Though iumination wi aso turn on when you press A, keep the button hed down unti DST indicator dispayed or DST indicator not dispayed. The DST indicator wi appear whenever you dispay a time zone for which Dayight Saving Time is turned on. that the DST/ setting affects ony the currenty dispayed time zone. Other time zones are not affected. that you cannot switch between and Dayight Saving Time whie UTC is seected as the time zone. that you cannot use the Dua Time Mode to change the DST setting of the Home Time Zone you currenty have seected in the Mode. See To change the Dayight Saving Time (summer time) setting for information about turning the Home Time Zone DST setting on and off. Aarm You can set a Daiy Aarm. When an aarm is turned on, the aarm tone sounds when the aarm time is reached. You can aso turn on an Houry Time Signa that causes the watch to beep twice every hour on the hour. When you enter the Aarm Mode, the screen you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. A of the operations in this section are performed in the Aarm Mode, which you enter by pressing B. n the Aarm Mode, you can press C to togge the dispay contents as shown beow. Aarm screen Houry Time Signa screen Aarm time (Hour: ) Mode Houry time signa on/off status To set an aarm time, and to turn Aarm on and off 1. n the Aarm Mode, use C to dispay the Aarm Screen. 2. Hod down A unti the hour setting of the aarm time starts to fash, which indicates the Though iumination wi aso turn on when you press A, keep the button hed down unti the hour setting of the aarm time fashes. This operation automaticay turns on the aarm. 3. Press B to change the fashing contents in the sequence shown beow to seect other settings. Hour Aarm On/Off. When the setting you want to change is fashing, use C to change it as described beow. Screen: To do this: Change the hour or minutes Do this: Use C. Togge between aarm on ( ), and aarm off ( ) When setting the aarm time using the 12-hour format, take care to set the time correcty as a.m. (no indicator) or p.m. (P indicator). 5. Press A to exit the Aarm Operation The aarm sounds at the preset time for about 10 seconds. Pressing any button stops the aarm tone operation. To test the aarm n the Aarm Mode, hod down C to sound the aarm. To turn the houry time signa on and off 1. n the Aarm Mode, use C to dispay the Houry Time Signa Screen. 2. Hod down A unti the houry time signa on/off status starts to fash, which indicates the Though iumination wi aso turn on when you press A, keep the button hed down unti the houry time On/off status signa on/off status fashes. This operation automaticay turns on the houry time signa. 3. Press C to togge it on and off. Operation Guide 709 713 Power Suppy This watch is equipped with a soar ce and a specia rechargeabe battery (secondary battery) that is charged by the eectrica power produced by the soar ce. The iustration shown beow shows how you shoud position the watch for charging. Exampe: Orient the watch so its face Soar ce is pointing at a ight source. The iustration shows how to position a watch with a resin band. that charging efficiency drops when any part of the soar ce is bocked by cothing, etc. You shoud try to keep the watch outside of your seeve as much as possibe. Charging is reduced significanty if the face is ony partiay covered. mportant! Storing the watch for ong periods in an area where there is no ight or wearing it in such a way that it is bocked from exposure to ight can cause rechargeabe battery power to run down. Make sure that the watch is exposed to bright ight whenever possibe. This watch uses a specia rechargeabe battery to store power produced by the soar ce, so reguar battery repacement is not required. However, after very ong use, the rechargeabe battery may ose its abiity to achieve a fu charge. f you experience probems getting the specia rechargeabe battery to charge fuy, contact your deaer or CASO distributor about having it repaced. Never try to remove or repace the watch s specia battery yoursef. Use of the wrong type of battery can damage the watch. The current time and a other settings return to their initia factory defauts whenever battery power drops to Leve 5 and when you have the battery repaced. Turn on the watch s Power Saving function and keep it in an area normay exposed to bright ight when storing it for ong periods. This heps to keep the rechargeabe battery from going dead. Leaving the watch in direct sunight or some other very strong ight source can cause the battery power indicator to show a reading that is momentariy higher than the actua battery eve. The correct battery power indicator shoud appear after a few minutes. The watch s Home Time Zone setting wi change automaticay to whenever the battery drops to Leve 5. With this Home Time Zone setting, the watch is configured to receive the time caibration signas of Japan. f you are using the watch in North America or Europe, you wi need to change the Home Time Zone setting to match your ocation whenever the battery drops to Leve 5. f you use the iumination or aarms a number of times during a short period, the hands of the watch wi stop. Dayight Saving Time (DST) Dayight Saving Time (summer time) advances the time setting by one hour from. Remember that not a countries or even oca areas use Dayight Saving Time. The time caibration signas transmitted from Mainfingen (Germany), Anthorn (Engand), or Fort Coins (the United States) incude both and DST data. When the Auto DST setting is turned on, the watch switches between Standard Time and DST (summer time) automaticay in accordance with the signas. The time caibration signas transmitted from Fukushima and Fukuoka/Saga (Japan) do not incude summer time data. f you experience probems receiving the time caibration signa in your area, it probaby is best to switch between and Dayight Saving Time (summer time) manuay. Depending on how much the hands have to move in order to adjust to the digita time, it may take some time before they stop moving. Power Saving Function The Power Saving function enters a seep state automaticay whenever the watch is eft in an area where it is dark for a certain period. Scroing C is used in various modes and setting screens to scro through data. n most cases, hoding down C during a scro operation scros through the data at high speed. nitia Screens When you enter the Dua Time or Aarm Mode, the data you were viewing when you ast exited the mode appears first. Radio-controed Atomic Precautions Strong eectrostatic charge can resut in the wrong time being set. The time caibration signa is bounced off the ionosphere. Because of this, such factors as changes in the refectivity of the ionosphere, as we as movement of the ionosphere to higher atitudes due to seasona atmospheric changes or the time of day may change the reception range of the signa and make reception temporariy impossibe. Even if the time caibration signa is received propery, certain conditions can cause the time setting to be off by up to one second. The current time setting in accordance with the time caibration signa takes priority over any time settings you make. The watch is designed to update the date and day of the week automaticay for the period January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2099. Setting of the date by a time caibration signa cannot be performed starting from January 1, 2100. This watch can receive signas that differentiate between eap years and non-eap years. Though this watch is designed to receive both time data (hour, minutes, seconds) and date data (year, month, day), certain signa conditions can imit reception to time data ony. Normay, the signa reception date shown by the Last Signa screen is the date data incuded in the received time caibration signa. When ony time data is received, however, the Last Signa screen shows the date as kept in the Mode at the time of signa reception. f you are in an area where proper time caibration signa reception is impossibe, the watch keeps time with the precision noted in Specifications. f you have probems with proper time caibration signa reception or if the time setting is wrong after signa reception, check your current time zone, DST (summer time), and auto receive settings. Resetting the seconds to 00 whie the current count is in the range of 30 to 59 causes the minutes to be increased by 1. n the range of 00 to 29, the seconds are reset to 00 without changing the minutes. The day of the week is dispayed automaticay in accordance with the date (year, month, and day) settings. The year can be set in the range of 2000 to 2099. The watch s buit-in fu automatic caendar makes aowances for different month engths and eap years. Once you set the date, there shoud be no reason to change it except after you have the watch s battery repaced or when battery power drops to Leve 5. The times for the Mode and a the time zones of the Dua Time Mode are cacuated in accordance with each time zones UTC differentia. The UTC differentia is a vaue that indicates the time difference between a reference point in Greenwich, Engand and the time zone. The etters UTC is the abbreviation for Universa Time Coordinated, which is the word-wide scientific standard of timekeeping. t is based upon carefuy maintained atomic (cesium) cocks that keep time accuratey to within microseconds. Leap seconds are added or subtracted as necessary to keep UTC in sync with the Earth s rotation. 12-hour/2-hour Formats The 12-hour/2-hour timekeeping format you seect in the Mode is aso appied in a other modes. With the 12-hour format, the PM indicator (P) appears on the dispay for times in the range of noon to 11:59 p.m. and no indicator appears for times in the range of midnight to 11:59 a.m. With the 2-hour format, times are dispayed in the range of 0:00 to 23:59, without any indicator. umination Precautions umination may be hard to see when viewed under direct sunight. umination turns off automaticay whenever an aarm sounds.
