Create the base applique right in yur embridery hp with the AutPunch and Editing sftware. Then, experiment with different fill textures fr the lettering. Fabric Preparatin: 1. Fabric A Cut five 12 x 17 (fr frnt panels) Cut five 8 x 9½ (fr back panels) 2. Fabric B Cut five 6 x 8 (fr applique /center panels) 3. Interfacing Cut five 8 x 9½ 4. Place ne Fabric A piece (12 x 17 frnt panel) in the large hp with tw pieces f tear-away stabilizer beneath the fabric. Nte: when stitching designs that are densely filled with stitches, use at least 2 layers f stabilizer t help keep fabric frm drawing in while stitching. Attach the prepared hp nt the embridery arm f the machine. At the Cmputer: 5. Dwnlad and save the file fr the Lettering Frame frm the website. Tip: Yu may find it helpful t create a flder within the sftware called My Images t save images fr embridery and easily lcate them later. 6. Open the sftware fr yur SINGER FUTURA TM machine. 7. Creating the Lettering Frame Appliqué: Select the AutPunch icn frm the main tl bar. Click Next t get started digitizing the Lettering frame. (Step One) Open Image Select the dwnladed Lettering frame. Click Next. (Step Tw) Crp Image Crp the excess space arund the image by dragging the bunding bx that surrunds the lettering frame s that it fits clsely arund the utside edges f the image. Click Next. (Step Three) Set Dimensins Change the unit f measure t inches, then enter 5 in the width bx. Ntice that the height changes as well. Click Finish as n ther changes are needed t be made at this time. 2
8. Editing the Frame The digitized frame shuld nw appear in the hp n screen; hwever, nte that it is cmpletely filled with stitches. T turn this int an applique, select the Editing icn frm the main tl bar. Right click and a new submenu appears. Select Embridery Settings. In the Embridery Settings Menu, select the Stitch Type tab, scrll dwn and select Applique. Check the First Hld dwn line. Check the Secnd Hld dwn line. Change the width t 55.00. Click n Apply. In a few mments, the design will reappear as an applique utline. The fill stitches shuld be gne and replaced with a texture that lks like a large weave. Save this file using the Save Design As functin fund under the File menu tab n the main tl bar. Give it a name such as Frame fr Lettering. This digitized frame will be used ver again fr each f the letters f the wrd PEACE. 3
9. HyperFnt Creating the Lettering: Select the HyperFnt icn frm the main tl bar. The HyperFnt Wizard pens. (Step One) Enter Text Enter in the capital letter P. Click n Select. The Fnt menu will nw appear. Select the desired fnt frm the fnt list. The preview bx belw the list f fnts will shw what the text will lk like in the highlighted fnt style. Use the arrw keys n yur cmputer t scrll thrugh the list. Once yu ve selected the desired text, click n OK. The text will nw appear in Step 2 f the HyperFnt Wizard. Click n Next. (Step Tw) Embridery Prperties Select Clumn stitch. Click n Finish. The P appears in the hp n the screen in ghst frm. While in this frm the P can be easily resized t fit the embridery frame by using the ndes arund the P t resize larger r smaller. Change the size f the P t abut 4½. The actual size can be lcated in the Height bx n the lettering tlbar. The lettering size shuld be smewhere arund 4.5 t fit nicely in the lettering frame. Make a nte f this s that the remaining letters f the wrd PEACE can be made t be the same size. While in ghst frm, the P can als be mved within the frame by clicking n the center and dragging it t a new psitin. Repsitin the P t center it within the Lettering frame if necessary. 4
Right click and select Stitch it! The letter will nw appear in stitches n the screen. 10. Editing the Letter The stitch type f the letter is nw ready t be edited. The Editing sftware prvides ver 200 stitch fill-types with variatins that can be made within each fill type! Fr this prject, each letter f the banner has a different fill type. Select the Editing icn frm the tlbar. Click n the P, and the P nw changes t an editing frmat. While in this frmat many changes can be made including changing the fill type. Select the Stitch Type tab. Scrll dwn and select Step Pattern. Click n Catalg. The catalg f different fill types appears. Scrll thrugh until yu ve fund ne that interests yu. T select simply duble click n the desired square. The stitch number appears in the Stitch type bx and the picture f the selected fill is in the Preview windw. The size f the fill pattern can als be changed. Max size represents the height, and Distance represents the width f the pattern. The bigger the number, the bigger the pattern. The smaller the number, the smaller the pattern. Entering the same number in bth the Max size and the Distance will keep the rati the same. Experiment with the different sizes t see what yu like best. Click n Apply. The stitch type changes in the P. When satisfied with the fill, click n the X in the upper crner f the Embridery Settings menu t clse it. 11. The design is nw ready t embrider. Yu may wish t save the design nw by using the Save Design as functin. Name it, perhaps smething like P with Frame. T create the remaining letters f the wrd PEACE, pen up the lettering frame file in a new screen and fllw the prcedures in Steps 9-10 t create each additinal letter. Hwever, change the fill type fr each letter. Save each letter with the frame under a new name. 5
Embridery: 12.T send the design t the machine, select the Transmit t Machine icn frm the main tl bar. Click n Send design. The first stitches f this design are the stitches that will hld dwn the applique fabric. Befre yu begin t embrider, lay ne f the 6 x 8 applique pieces ver the fabric in the hp. If yu wish, yu can lightly spray the wrng side f the fabric with a temprary fabric spray adhesive. Begin t embrider, making sure that the applique fabric desn t shift r slide. Carefully watch the stitching because yu will stp the machine frm sewing nce the duble rw f hld-dwn stitching is cmplete and befre the satin stitching begins. When the machine gets t this pint, stp the machine; remve the embridery hp frm the embridery arm being careful nt t disturb the fabric in the hp. Using the applique scissrs, cut away the excess fabric arund the lettering frame. Cut as clse t the stitching as pssible withut cutting the stitches. Re-attach the embridery hp t the machine. Re-start the machine and cntinue embridering until the design is finished. Remve the hp frm the machine. Remve the fabric frm the hp. Clip any jump stitches and remve the stabilizer. Press. Repeat this prcess with the remaining letters and panels f the banner. Sewing Directins: 8 13.Using a rtary cutter, mat and ruler, cut each f the letter panels dwn t 8 x 9½, centering the letters. 9½ 6
14. Lay ne f the interfacing pieces n a flat surface. Place ne f the back panels, right side up, n tp f it. Place the frnt panel n tp f the back, right side dwn. Pin tgether, having the raw edges even. 15. Attach the Quarter-inch Ft and thread the machine with the all-purpse thread. Starting n the bttm edge, sew tgether, leaving an pening at the bttm fr turning. Trim away excess interfacing clse t the stitching. Trim crners. Turn right side ut. Press, tucking in pening edges. Pin pening clsed. 16. Tp stitch clse t the edges, making sure t stitch the pening clsed. Stitch arund the center panel right next t the satin stitch utline. Repeat with the remaining panels. 17. Attach the Buttnhle Ft and select a buttnhle stitch. Make a buttnhle in the tp crners f all f the panels. Carefully cut pen the fabric in the center f the buttnhle. 18. Sew the buttns n the ribbn. Buttn the panels t the ribbn.
