Swimwear Approximate overall thread consumption = 5 metres The sewing threads used in swimwear applications are required to deliver high seam strength and elongation as well as colour fastness in chlorinated water. Coats 100% polyester sewing threads are engineered to help in the creation of seams that meet these requirements. Where two Tex sizes of thread have been suggested the choice will be determined by the fabric weight, the construction of the load bearing seams and the stitch definition required (topstitching). For the serging operation the use of Gral 200 or Gramax Tex 18 is sometimes used to reduce the overall thread cost in the garments. Alternative thread types may be used depending on required final quality. The thread size will determine the choice of needle size.
