Artistic Statement I have been working in wood for 35 years including woodturning. I started wood turning seriously about 25 years ago. I teach a workshop each year for the Appalachian Center for Craft and have been a demonstrator for several mini symposiums and the American Association of Woodturners annual symposium. I ve done demos at many of the clubs in the southeast. I currently belong to The Tennessee Association of Woodturners, The upper Cumberland Woodturners, and the Mid Tenn Woodturners. I have written articles for Woodturning, More Woodturning and American Woodturner, Woodturning Design and Woodcraft. I m known for my hand mirrors and one of a kind sculptural pieces. I m also known for my ability to create work using a wide variety of techniques and many different materials. I m also actively interested in metal working and consequently make or modify many of my lathe tools. I am currently a retired photographer for Tennessee Technological University, where I ve worked for the last 26 years. Because the Appalachian Center for Crafts is a part of our University, I have the opportunity to photograph a lot of art -work of all types. I shoot juried slides for many artists and have had work published in Fine Woodworking Design Book, Woodwork, Ceramics Monthly, Craft Reports, Fine Woodworking, and many other journals and books that feature artists.
