ThroughouthistenureattheUniversityofGeorgia,WauchopedirectedtheWPAarchaeological surveyofgeorgia.hesurveyedover200sitesnorthofmacon,andexcavated23sitesinmacon, Savannah,StallingsIsland,andatEtowah.Wauchopedevelopedandrananarchaeology laboratoryattheuniversityofgeorgia,inaddirontoseongupthestatesfirstdetailed archaeologicalsitefile.heplayedalargepartindevelopingtheceramicsequencefornorth Georgiaduringthetwoyearshewasthere.

In1940,Wauchopegotajobasassociateprofessorofanthropologyanddirectorofthe LaboratoryofAnthropologyandArchaeologyattheUniversityofNorthCarolina,ChapelHill. Furthermore,WauchopeisnotedforhisextensiveworkonhousemoundsinUaxactun, Guatemala.Thestudyofthesesitesisoneofthemostextensiveofitskind,pertainingto householdarchaeologyofthemayaareaandmodernmayahouse.in1943,wauchopewas assignedtotheofficeofstrategicservicesinthemediterraneanfortheduraronofthewar.in 1947heconRnuedhisworkonhispreviousresearchfrom1935V1936atZacualpa,inthe Guatemalanhighlands.1947V1957,WauchopetaughtamulRdisciplinarymiddleAmerican researchprogramwithweeklyseminars,workingwithotherlarnamericanscholarsattulane. Duringthe1950sWauchopewasaskedtobegeneraleditoroftheHandbookofMiddle AmericanIndians.TheHandbookwasassembledatTulaneandconsistedof16volumes.Itwas publishedbytheuniversityoftexaspressfrom1964v1976,withmargaretharrisonasthe editortothehandbook.wauchopedidnotperformanyfieldworkaqerhisworkin1957unrl 1974whenhereturnedtoGuatemalatoworkonsmallsitesnearAsuncionMita.Wauchopeis respectedforhislongandcelebratedrmewiththemiddleamericaresearchinsrtute,aswellas buildingafoundaronandpickingearlystafffortulaneuniversity.in1967tulanehadasingle independentanthropologyfacility,nolongerjointwiththesociologydepartment.
