James Luxon Ellis (1842 1899) James Luxon Ellis was born August 24 th 1842 to James Ellis 1 and Mary Ann Luxon 2 in Stenalees St. Austell parish, Cornwall England. James was baptized March 5 th 1843, while the family lived in Stenalees St Austell located in Corwall England. 3 James 1 st married Sarah Henrietta Boyer in 1865. Sarah was the 4 th child of 14 children born June 21 st 1846 in Exeter Township, Berks County Pennsylvania to William Boyer and Henrietta Ritter. 4 James worked as a locomotive machinist, and lived in Pottstown Montgomery County, Reading in Berks County, and Dauphin County at both Derry Street and Berry Hill Street Harrisburg Pennsylvania. By 1870 the family moved to the city of Reading i A one month old child with no name was listed in the 1870 census, and a nurse lived with them named Afediah Moser 55 years old. The unnamed child would be Isaac. At that time the value of their real estate as $11,400, and their personal estate was $100.00 Later, after coming to the US, he became a miner in Boyertown. He advanced himself to the position of pay master. As the story goes, the payroll usually came on a certain night and robbers planned to take the pay. Trying to convince the robbers that the payroll was truly a day late, the robbers threw him down the mine shaft, causing his death. James L. and Sara H. Ellis s had seven children. i. James Boyer Ellis (1866-1921) 5 James married Mary L Sauer. 6 ii. Henry H. Ellis (1867-1947) 7 In 1891 Henry married Sarah A Miller. 8 iii. Paul Albert Ellis was born and died in 1869 9 iv. Isaac Boyer Ellis (1869-1936) Isaac married Bertha E. Cassidy. 10 v. Sarah (Sallie) Henrietta Ellis was born November 23 rd 1872. 11 She married Harvey Barr 12 vi. Albert Boyer Ellis was born and died in 1874. He was laid to rest in the Ellis family plot at the Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading 13 vii. William Boyer Ellis was born February 1876, and died March 25 th 1878:... In this city on the 25 th instant, William Boyer Ellis, aged 2 years, 2 months and 16 day; the relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the parents residence, 821 Green Street, on Thursday afternoon at 1 o clock, services at the home, interment at Charles Evans Cemetery 14 i The boundaries of Reading grew north and south, and by the late 1860's the City limits included what is now the heart of the City. The Riverdale, Northmont, and Glenside neighborhoods were added in the early 1900's along with the 18th Ward and an area of Mt. Penn. The City achieved its current configuration in the late 1960's.

James wife, Sarah H. Ellis, died in Reading Pennsylvanian June 9 th 1877,... Sarah Ellis, wife of J. L. Ellis and daughter of Wm. and Henrietta Boyer, aged 30 years, 11 months, and 18 days. The relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday afternoon at 1 o clock, from her late residence 821 Green Street without further notice. Services at St. Paul s Memorial Reformed Church, interment at Charles Evans Cemetery... 15 Sarah was survived by her parents, her husband, 5 children: James B Ellis, age 12; Henry H (Harry) Ellis, age 8; Isaac Boyer Ellis, age 7; Sarah Henrietta Ellis, age 4; and William Boyer Ellis, age 17 months; 2 brothers, and 6 sisters. She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 2 sisters. She is buried in Charles Evans Cemetery, Reading, PA, in the Ellis Family Plot (adjacent to the Boyer Family Plot). James L. Ellis then married Rosa Ann (Annie) Boyer on January 19 th 1882. 16 Rosa is a younger sister of James s 1 st wife Sarah H. Boyer. Rosa was born June 30 th 1851 to William Boyer and Henrietta Ritter of Pennsylvania. Rosa died giving birth on August 11 th 1884, 17 age 33 years, 1 month, and 11 days. 18 viii. Baby Girl Ellis, stillborn 19 and died August 11 th 1884, 20 and was laid to rest in the Charles Evans Cemetery at the St. Paul s Memorial Reformed Church. 21 Daughter of William Boyer (1819-1893) and Henrietta D (nee Ritter) Boyer (1822-1888). She married her brother-in-law, James L. Ellis, in 1882, after her older sister, Sarah, died in 1877 leaving James to raise 5 motherless children. She was a member of St Paul's Memorial Reformed Church where her husband was a Deacon. She died in 1884 while giving birth to her only child, a daughter, who was stillborn. She was survived by her husband, her parents, 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. She was predeceased by 3 brothers and 4 sisters After Rosa died, James married a 3 rd time to Amanda S. Kline on January 1 st 1887. 22 Amanda was born December 21 st 1858. Amanda and James Ellis tried to have children, but it never happened. ix. Luther K. Ellis was born and died in 1889, 23 and was laid to rest in the Charles Evans Cemetery at the St. Paul s Memorial Reformed Church. 24 x. Baby Girl Ellis was born 25 and died January 28 th 1894, 26 and was laid to rest in the Charles Evans Cemetery at the St. Paul s Memorial Reformed Church. 27 James L. Ellis died January 15 th 1899, aged 56 years, 4 months, and 22 days. He was laid to rest at the Charles Evans Cemetery at the St. Paul s Memorial Reformed Church. 28 After James died in 1899, Amanda married William A. Mengel. 29 Amanda died January 5 th 1939 30 while living in Wyomissing Hills, Berks County. 31
