Lennon 1.00 US - Capitol LP HELP The Beatles You ve Got To Hide Your Love Away - HELP! Recorded Feb. 18 th `65 in a quick afternoon session. Interesting note: John s original lyric was I can t go on feeling two foot tall, but when singing it for Paul the first time he accidentally said, two foot small Lennon then laughed and said lets leave it all those psudes will really love it. Lead vocal John Lennon 1.00 US - Capitol LP HELP! 8

That original song was a faster, higher version than the Let It Be version, which was the original track slowed down and combined with an orchestra by producer Phil Spector. A song that got it s own film in 2017! 9:56 Break Back with the Beatle at the movies up next a bit of a rare one for ya Dick Emery as Jeremy ("The Boob") 10

11 The Beatles Lucy In The Sky w/ Diamonds w/ The Boob! - Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band Recorded March 1 st 1967 The title taken from a painting from young Julian Lennon of a school friend of his named Lucy and there were some stars painted in the sky and called it Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds. Paul wrote the line newspaper taxis. John Lennon double-tracked lead vocal, lead guitar; Paul McCartney harmony vocal, Lowry organ, bass guitar; George Harrison harmony vocal, lead guitar, acoustic guitar, tambura; Ringo Starr drums, maracas The Beatles - Hey Bulldog - Yellow Submarine Recorded 11th February 1968 John said, it s a good sounding record that means nothing. Newly remixed for the Yellow Submarine Soundtrack expanded version. Lead vocal Lennon Lennon..95.05 The Beatles Think For Yourself (Harrison) Rubber Soul Recorded Nov. 8 th 1965 11

12 One of George s most underrated rockers featuring Paul on fuzz bass George Harrison lead vocal, lead guitar; Paul McCartney backing vocal, bass guitar; John Lennon backing vocal; Ringo Starr drums, maracas, tambourine This song was originally called Won t Be There With You but it was a bit of a mouthful so they changed it. It only took one take. Some of the vocal harmonies ended up on the Yellow Submarine soundtrack Lead vocal George Harrison 1.00 The Beatles If I Fell AHDN A song John called the precursor to In My Life it has the same chord progression said John D and B minor and E minor Flip of And I Love Her in the US John Lennon joint lead vocal, acoustic rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney joint lead vocal, bass guitar; George Harrison lead guitar; Ringo Starr drums This was supposedly about one of John s numerous affairs but because there s no love interest in A Hard Day s Night he ends up singing it to Ringo instead! It marked a further step in John s lyrical progression by harping-back to an earlier song I Want To Hold Your Hand. You can hear him singing: Love is more/than just holding holds. It was my first attempt at a proper ballad, he said. It was the precursor to In My Life. It has the same chord sequences: D and B minor and E minor, those kind of things. Lead vocal John and Paul Lennon 1.00 US - Capitol LP Something New/ United Artists LP A Hard Day s Night 12

13 The Beatles And I Love Her AHDN Written mainly by Paul with the middle eight by John it was released as a single in the US getting to #12. Recorded Feb. 1964 at Abbey Road Paul McCartney lead vocal, acoustic guitar; John Lennon acoustic guitar; George Harrison acoustic guitar solo; Ringo Starr bongos, claves This was their first all-acoustic song (although you can hear an early, electric version on Anthology 1). It was the first ballad that I impressed myself with, admitted Paul. It s got nice chords in it, Bright are the stars that shine, dark is the sky I like the imagery of the stars and the sky. It s a love song really the And in the title is an important thing, And I Love Her, it came right out of left field, you were right up to speed the minute you heard it. It came in the second verse and didn t repeat. You would often go to town on the title, but this was almost an aside, Oh and I love you. Lead vocal Paul McCartney.65 / Lennon.35 US - Capitol LP Something New/ United Artists LP A Hard Day s Night 13

14 The Beatles - All You Need Is Love - Magical Mystery Tour Recorded 14th June 1967-33 takes Released as a single in the UK July 7 th 1967. Hit # 1 for four weeks. George Martin had a big hand in the end of All You Need Is Love and almost got into a bit a trouble for it. He used a bit too much of the classic song In The Mood Featured on the Our World TV programmed on June 25, it was the first live worldwide TV program. It lasted 6 hours long, and seen in twenty-four countries by an estimated 400 million people. John Lennon lead vocal, harpsichord, banjo; Paul McCartney harmony vocal, string bass played with a bow, bass guitar; George Harrison harmony vocal, violin, guitar; Ringo Starr drums; George Martin piano; Sidney Sax, Patrick Halling, Eric Bowie and Jack Holmes violins; Rex Morris and Don Honeywill tenor saxes; Stanley Woods and David Mason trumpets; Evan Watkins and Harry Spain trombones; Jack Emblow accordion; Jane Asher, Eric Clapton, Hunter Davies, Marianne Faithfull, Patti Harrison, Mick Jagger, Gary 14

Flip of I ll Cry Instead in US. George Harrison lead vocal, lead guitar; John Lennon backing vocal, rhythm guitar; Paul McCartney backing vocal, bass guitar; Ringo Starr drums, loose-skinned Arabian bongo drum 15

16 This was completed in four takes at their first-ever Sunday session. It was a bit of a formula song, said Paul. We knew that in E if you went to an A-flat minor, you could always make a song with those chords; that change pretty much always excited you. This is one of these. We wouldn t have actually wanted to sing it though, because it was a bit The ones that pandered to the fans in truth were our least favorite songs but they were good. They were good for the time. Lead vocal George Lennon 1.00 US - Capitol LP Something New/ United Artists LP A Hard Day s Night The Beatles The Night Before HELP! Recorded Feb. 17 th 1965 All Paul Paul McCartney double-tracked lead vocal, bass guitar, lead guitar (?); John Lennon backing vocal, electric piano; George Harrison backing vocal, lead guitar(?); Ringo Starr drums Done in two takes Lead vocal Paul McCartney 1.00 The Beatles - The Fool On The Hill - Magical Mystery Tour & Dinner For Schmucks Recorded 6th September 1967 16

17 Paul first brought the song to John s attention in mid March while working on the lyrics for A Little Help from My Friends. John said to write down the lyrics so not to forget them revisited again 6 months later in September. In the film you can see Paul (by himself) dancing on a Mt. Top in Nice, France. It was an interesting trip for Paul as he forgot his wallet, passport and his money! They also didn t have the correct camera lenses it ended up costing over 4000 pounds to film the scene. Paul McCartney lead vocal, piano, acoustic guitar, recorder, bass guitar; John Lennon harmonica, Jew s harp(?); George Harrison acoustic guitar, harmonica; Ringo Starr drums, maracas, finger cymbals; Christopher Taylor, Richard Taylor and Jack Eller flutes The Beatles - Baby You're A Rich Man Yellow Sub & Social Network SNGTK/Magical Mystery Tour Recorded 11th May 1967 Two songs put together John s All Of The Beautiful People and Paul s Baby You re A Rich Man Recorded at Olympic Studios with more than a few Rolling Stones present. Mark Lewisohn say s in his Recording Session book that one tape box was marked w/ M. Jagger John Lennon double-tracked lead vocal, piano, clavioline; Paul McCartney harmony vocal, piano, bass guitar; George Harrison harmony vocal; Ringo Starr drums, maracas, tambourine; Eddie Kramer vibraphone; Brian Jones oboe (?); Mick Jagger harmony vocal(?) This was a combination of two songs John s One Of The Beautiful People, and Paul s rich-man chorus. The rich-man was supposedly Brian Epstein. Apparently John sings Baby, you re a rich fag Jew towards the end (but I can t hear it). And it s possible (although it s not definite) that Mick Jagger sang a couple of the background vocals. 17

18 The Beatles Two Of Us - Let It Be Thought by many to be a song about John and Paul and their childhood, "Two of Us" is actually a song written by Paul about he and his wife Linda. The lyrics are derived from various experiences where the two would get in the car with Paul's dog Martha and just drive in the countryside until they were lost. One particular day, Linda parked the car and went for a walk; Paul sat in the car and wrote the basic track for the song. Recorded: 24th, 25th, 31st January 1969 Location: Apple Studios Producer: George Martin Engineer: Glyn Johns Paul McCartney joint lead vocal, acoustic guitar; John Lennon joint lead vocal, acoustic guitar; George Harrison lead guitar; Ringo Starr drums 10:56 BREAK The Beatles film Let It Be which is still not out don t hold yer breath either.you can get clean copies as it did come out on laser disc in the 80 s The Beatles last public performance Was on the rooftop @ No. 3 Saville Row, the new Apple HQ s around mid-day on Thursday January the 30 th the temp/a nippy 49 degrees and lasted a full 42 minutes, and may well have gone on longer had it not been for the complaints of their neighbor, Stanley Davis. a wool merchant next door who was not a Beatle fan so it seemed. I pieced together the best recordings and linked them together to give you the real deal on Roof Top 18

19 Jan. 30 th 1969 ROOFTOP 16.29 The Beatles One After 909 - Let It Be The oldest Beatles' song ever recorded, "One After 909" is one of the "over 100 songs" that Paul and John claim to have written before landing a recording contract. The song was attempted in 1963, but was dropped by George Martin The Beatles Dig A Pony - Let It Be January 30, 1969 (rehearsal & 1 take; rooftop performance) Released as a single in UK April 11, 1969 And in the USA May 5th 1969. The Beatles 1st STEREO single in the US The Beatles I ve Got A Feeling - Let It Be Paul's song "I've Got a Feeling" and John's "Everybody's Had a Hard Year" were put together for "I've Got a Feeling". Paul's contribution was a love song to Linda; whereas John's was autobiographical in new writing styles (each line begins with the word 'everybody'). John did have had a hard year, as he divorced his wife Cynthia, was arrested for drug possession, was nearly broke, and had lost a baby with Yoko through miscarriage. 19

20 The Beatles - Don't Let Me Down Let It Be Naked The Beatles Get Back Anthology "Get Back" was the original title to the film and album, which became Let It Be. The whole idea of the album was for the band to 'get back' to their recording roots by playing live and without studio trickery, hence the title. Journalists repeatedly asked Paul if the song had racist meanings, but demo tapes show that the song was originally a satire of people who wanted to keep illegal immigrants out of Britain. Soon Paul had added a few characters and the satire was lost, but the single was enormously successful, selling 2 million copies QUIZ #2/ here for RINGO & RUSTY TICKETS!!!! The subject the film Magic Christian - Youngman Grand played by Ringo. A/ Sir Guy Grand! (Peter Sellers) Who is singing this Song from Magic Christian? Paul McCartney I ll Give You A Ring The backing track was originally recorded in 1974, and updated with electric guitars and backing vocals. 11:26 BREAK 20
